So, I recently became an independent lab leader: Today marks my second week as the head of the "Muscle Wasting" lab in the Geriatrics Department of the Charité Berlin. I can't quite describe how excited I am about this. A genuine dream come true! 🥲🥳 #MyoTwitter

@SteffenDanielle I know that in case of the FU Berlin, only a fraction of the academic staff are professors (about 450 out of 2400). The others are regular employees who either contribute to science or teaching. I think UCD counts only faculty as academic staff.

@HeWaHippo Myotube size is the only thing you need, ideally in desmin or MHC positive cells. For molecular biology, MAFbx and MuRF1 don't have a great antibody for tissue, but in cells they seem to work fine. Total ubiquitin is another nice one to include.

Interesting but not very surprising finding: Your Postdoc may be more predictive for academic success than your PhD. And to those who mean well, when they say "focus on the science and not on big papers": hit papers are very predictive of success, too.

@simongerman600 To be fair, this is specifically the "mafia style crime" category. Not crime in general. For example, Italy has a lot of mafia crime (top 5), but relatively low general crime (top 40). Russia has rather little mafia activities (top 40), but quite a bit of regular crime (top 20).

@CitiusMag Come on now, AD was All NBA 2nd team and All NBA Defense 1st team in 2024. He's arguably one of the best two way players in the league. I'm surprised the Mavs let their franchise player go, too, but no reason to disrespect AD like he wasn't one of the best in the league. ;-)

Very cool paper, but also highlights a massive gap in our knowledge: Every bit of data here was pre-clinical, and only one study looked at an approved drug for obesity. Almost no robust data on GLP-1RA and muscle in mice or humans available, making any effects speculation.
