@ThibauxV @TeamDerave @Cell_Metabolism @ugent_fge @FWOVlaanderen Congrats Thibaux! Wim has told me about some of these data. But I'll have to take some time to let it all sink in. Keep it up!

@masquer08er @a_holwerda @ShonaHalson No. We also did a study comparing whey vs casein, and whey appeared a bit better (likely very little difference tho)

@HenningLanger @Jeukendrup MPS is delayed compared to whole-body protein synthesis (due to how both are assessed; actual incorporation vs a plasma kinetic). This delay disadvantages the high dose in which the total MPS will be underestimated as indicated in the manuscript.

@jlAreta @NatureComms I will have to sit down and give this a good read. But it looks very impressive at first glance. Congrats on the nice pub José!

@hunterpeaks @Jeukendrup Protein does not cause kidney damage in healthy individuals. Once there is kidney damage, protein intake is an additional burden on the weakened damage and may progress a further decline in function.

@jacksonfyfe Amazing data set! Useful reference for comparison with our recent case study of a 71-year-old powerlifting champion. Old does not have to equal weak!

@sebastiancatana Energy balance would still determine whether you gain/lose body fat. Just as with protein metabolism, there is much interest in how meal frequency impacts weight loss. But it doesn't seem to impact it.

@michi_holzer We used milk protein, which is 20% whey and 80% micellar casein. With different protein powders and whole-foods, the overall response over time would be a bit different. But the general principle would likely still apply: more protein: longer and greater total response.

@AnastasiosMakr4 I don't know if there's an official definition. But for the purpose of the topic we're discussing, I would go for something along these lines: "absence of an exogenous macro-nutrient flux"

In conclusion: The total amount spent in an anabolic-fed state is likely more dependent on total protein intake than meal distribution. Our commentary: If you found this helpful, please help share the first post in the thread:
