@fesshole 🤔 Unlikely that the individual didn't enquire about renewal. Failing to renew a fixed term employment contract without reasonable grounds is actually a potential unfair dismissal claim. This wouldn't apply if it was a contractor, rather than employee.

That second sentence is what often gets overlooked by people assuming that their rights are absolute and inviolable. Sometimes a dynamic tension exists between the protections afforded to different groups. Taking an absolutist stance in such a conflict will not help one's cause.

@AudreySuffolk I was in Chesham recently. I had the right parking app, but despite having a strong 4G signal, couldn't get a reliable data connection. One of the ticket machines was out of service, the other one across the carpark was unable to print receipts. I do like having proof of payment!

@NattieJP @fesshole That’s a fair point. All the employer needs to do is show a fair reason for not renewing. Failing to renew and then hiring a replacement, for example, would likely be considered unfair. Not replacing and citing costs is easier for an employer to defend.

@Nettleshippy I love bread sauce, especially with roast chicken. It's easy to make; my recipe is basically garlic, black pepper and a few cloves simmered in milk and then stirring in finely chopped bread until I get a sauce with a porridge like consistency. Delicious!
