Who was right about Lia Thomas? The TERFs
Who was right about women's rugby? The TERFs
Who was right about puberty blockers? The TERFs
Who was right about Tavistock? The TERFs
People are beginning to see a pattern.
Things have shifted.
@talkRADIO
@EamonnHolmes
@DawnNeesom
Eamonn Holmes defines what prejudice is, for people who've forgotten.
"I've never met her but I look at her and think (place obnoxious word/opinion/phrase here.)"
One of the biggest shocks of my adult life has been that people who ostensibly see themselves as left-wing, socialist, anti-racist, anti-fascist, and anti-homophobic still have a very deep well of hatred for women. Gender ideology just took the lid off.
I admit, I thought talk of antisemitism on the Left was manufactured politicking. The day after the atrocities of October 7, people were celebrating it as a civil rights action, akin to the Selma to Montgomery marches. Journalists from Novara Media. I see it now and I'm sorry.
I cancelled my
@theSNP
membership tonight. Rejection of reasonable amendments to GRR the final straw. The lack of attention given to the Cass Report, Tavistock, the investigation of Mermaids, and growing evidence of the harm of puberty blockers makes
@scotgov
look like zealots.
I've just had a man tell me transwomen are even more victimised than women. What led to such delusion? How can people really believe such obvious lies?
I'm not a member of the SNP, though I have been in the past, but stuff it! I'm gonna join. The vinegar-titted negativity from alleged indy supporters needs some kind of positive response from me. Independence is bigger than the SNP, but nobody else will get us there.
I'm blocking everyone saying they won't vote SNP in May. There's no time for that shit. Voting SNP is a proxy vote for independence. After we achieve that, we can redecorate and rearrange the furniture. Not voting SNP means we're stuck with the flock wallpaper and beige carpet.
If we were independent now and England came along and said, "Why don't we take control of 85% of your country's powers, determine how much pocket money you get and attribute huge sums of English expenditure to your budget to make you look weak?" would 55% of Scots go for it?
I hope Alex Salmond sues the BBC, not because I'm part of the Salmond cult, but because what the BBC broadcast tonight should not become a precedent. Going back to how the complainants felt after the not guilty verdict was tantamount to saying the verdict was tainted. 1/2
All those Scottish MPs and media pundits who say it's 'confusing' to have the UK government say one thing and the Scottish Government another; imagine how much less confusing it would be if we were independent and our TV wasn't dominated by another country's news. Just a thought.
If the Royal Family love and respect Scotland as much as they say they do:
1) the heir to the throne wouldn't have brought a Covid positive entourage to Deeside.
2) William and Kate would have not visited when asked not to by the First Minister.
Anyone in Scotland who reads the Sunday Times article and concludes that union with England remains our best option, now and in the future, is incapable of critical reasoning.
I just had a Labour canvasser at the door. Told him I'm finding it difficult to support any party in this election because they've all been absolutely suckered by radical transactivism to the detriment of women's rights. Dude boxes and plays rugby. Totally agreed with me.
#Hope
When even the Daily Mail calls into question Kirsty Wark's bizarre film of the Salmond trial, you know that something has gone terribly wrong at the BBC. This isn't just crazy cybernattery.
Hey
@DavidMundellDCT
, if Scotland isn't a partner but a part of the UK, why does it have its own Secretary of State and Manchester doesn't. Asking for Tim Shipman.
Hilary Cass's decision to close Tavistock must spell the end of self-ID in Scotland. There's no way that
@theSNP
@NicolaSturgeon
@ShonaRobison
can say now that self-ID, particularly for 16-year-olds, is 'international best practice.'
@AlmostStace
@WEP_UK
How many times do "trans allies" need to be proven wrong before they ditch this hot potato? Wrong on Tavistock; wrong about the reversibility of puberty blockers; wrong about schools keeping secrets from parents; soon to be proven wrong about Mermaids.
Hey
@Ed_Miliband
, a Scottish independence referendum isn't a distraction for Scotland. We realise that we only exist in your peripheral vision, but to the people who live here, it's essential to not having a Tory government ever again and to creating a greener Scottish future.
I absolutely love England, I really do. I have spent amazingly wonderful holidays in Northumberland, the Lake District, Yorkshire, Cornwall...
Thinking Scotland should have its own government does not affect my fondness for England one iota.
After 30 years of Scottish independence, how many people do you think will look back and say "If only they'd listened to Jenny Marra/Ian Gray/Murdo Fraser/Ruth Davidson/Jill Stephenson/Tom Gallagher"?
@BBCNewsnight
@JamesClayton5
Sorry Newsnight, but the BBC, and particularly your programme & Question Time, have been cheerleaders for the Tories for years. You're complicit in this because incremental shifts to the right have been ignored, but inch by inch you've enabled and normalised overt racism
What I find most depressing about today was that everybody seemed to hear 'pubs will be shut' but don't seem to have heard the horrific details of the exponential growth in Covid infections these past two weeks.
Rape is exclusively a male crime in the UK. By convicting a person of rape the justice system has made its judgement about the sex of the perpetrator. So why imprison rapists in women's prisons?
@mcashmanCBE
Trans people have human rights, they are universal. Not a single right in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights or the UK Human Rights Act don't apply to trans people. TRAHR is gaslighting and implies that trans people are denied human rights. They're not.
@nwlc
Transwomen and transgirls are male. Placing a gap after trans doesn't change that. It isn't an adjective, it's a modifying prefix that changes the nature of the noun after it; the words themselves are proof that transwomen and transgirls are not women and girls.
@ITVWales
Will you stop using J. K. Rowling as a receptacle for society's misogyny? Stop reporting criticism of her and start putting people on the spot about what their specific criticisms are. Because, as far as I can see, it's all recycled lies and misinformation.
@HHS_ASH
This is emotional blackmail. Citations and stats on the lifesaving capabilities of bodily mutilation would be appreciated. Things don't just become true coz someone in uniform says it.
@SarahVaci
I'm pretty unforgiving on this score. They are the people prolonging a social contagion and causing further harm to young people, simply for their careers and social acceptance. Nobody believes transwomen are actually women. Not one single human being. It's a propagandist lie.
Dear English friends, please look at the conference crowd here, then ask questions of your media when they say that the SNP are in decline. Then ask why they want to mislead you otherwise. Then ask what else they might be misleading you about.
🏴
@NicolaSturgeon
: “So let’s get on with our task.
Let us win our independence.
Let us build that fairer nation.
And let Scotland - an independent Scotland - play our part in building the better world that we know is possible.”
✍️
The most disappointing thing for me about Scottish politics is that No supporting politicians haven't moved to indy after realising that Yes predictions weren't scaremongering. Yet here we are, brexit is happening and reckless plums like Willie Rennie still wave the union jack.
I think it's probably safe to say that
@theSNP
have made themselves look a bunch of total shits today. The absolute hatred for Joanna Cherry, mostly from people who see themselves as caring and inclusive, has led to death threats. 1/2
I'm Scottish, and even I thought we could be nippy wee bast*rds at times, but holy moly! Today has shown we have the patience of saints, after all the shit England's put us through. One blooming day of England not getting its own way, and all the toys are out the pram.
Isn't it funny when English politicians and journalists think Nicola Sturgeon is the bee's knees when she says something that might have a beneficial effect on England. They're downright bloody hostile when she's fighting Scotland's corner.
Ian Murray gets on his high horse when an English city is treated badly. Meanwhile, if bad things happen to Scotland, he's a cheerleader for the union, whichever party is in power. Please remember this the next time he stands for election.
They’ve picked a fight with the north of England, the EU, and the devolved nations and wonder why there is such a divide in the country. You can’t rule a country by sense of entitlement.
@kennedytcooper
We, yes even some men, recognised when men were trying to deprive women of their hard-won rights. We also recognise that men doing the same thing now whilst calling themselves women is just the same filling, different pastry.
I am so angry about
@NicolaSturgeon
trying to smear those critical of gender theory as misogynistic, transphobic, and racist. She was friends with the late Leeze Lawrence, who had a terrible social media history of disgusting racist rhetoric but she just let that pass.
Is there an alternative Twitter/X universe where transactivists are tweeting the Edinburgh Rape Crisis Centre tribunal and saying how great ERCC are doing under pressure, because from where I'm sitting, they're looking unprofessional and gormless.
@womensmarch
Do you realise you're trying to steal feminism from people who helped build it? You're dumping on people who gave you rights.
BTW, what demographic do you draw the line at intersecting with.
When the dust settles:
I never sided with the people who drugged and operated on children. I never sided with men telling women to shut up. I never sided with people who illegally prescribed drugs to children over the internet. /1
This tweet sums up why I stopped supporting Labour. We are seen as a mechanism for a Westminster Labour government. That's the only value they think we have. They don't think about our unique circumstances and needs, we're just a prop for their power, with no intrinsic worth
Today I’ll meet with Labour colleagues in Westminster to stress how Scotland is the key to delivering the next Labour government - it is only the real change we promise which will stop Tory austerity and stop the SNP sharpening Tory cuts and devastating public services.
Have you noticed that people have no hesitation in calling creepy men "creepy men," yet when those aforementioned creepy men wear a wig and a dress, they suddenly become brave flag-bearers for social justice?
Well, creepy men have noticed that too.
Dear everybody,
@AlexSalmond
is not hosting a new RT talk show. He is hosting a new Slàinte Media show that RT is broadcasting. BBC & ITV are welcome to start a bidding war.
Hey, the rest of the UK!
Listen to Scotland once in a while.
We told you the BBC were propagandists before you noticed.
We told you remaining in the EU was a good idea before you noticed.
We told you Corbyn was a Brexiteer old duffer before you noticed.
All the people in England worried that Scottish independence will doom them to eternal Tory governments...
... errm ... that's who England votes for.
Spare a thought for all the Tory governments you've foisted on Scotland over the past 64 years.
The solution is yours.
Hey,
@BBCNews
- the Deputy Speaker confirmed the vote would have Barnett consequentials for devolved nations, so it really should not have been an EVEL vote. The perversion of democracy is a bigger story than a petty 'stunt' smear, is it not?
@stephenwhittle
That is utterly and totally bonkers. The Bible starts with a story centred around men and women and their biological differences. It's also racism in sequins to suggest that Western science manufactured this and that other cultures were unaware of it. And did I say it's bonkers?
Why are the trans movement always going for hyperbolic exaggeration in their campaigning? Never has such a small minority been so vocal and cosseted, but apparently they are fighting for their very existence, for their lives, against erasure. /1
@MattRxgan
In light of what you've just said, could you please advise non-trans allies like Owen Jones and Ash Sarkar to keep their pipes shut on this topic? Many thanks!
@SWR666
We understand why you mention toilets rather than rape crisis centres, women's refuges, and prisons. As soon as you let male-bodied people into women's spaces with self-ID, more of that 49% will take advantage. Isla Bryson showed that. You know it; why do you pretend not to?
@RogerPielkeJr
I am astounded that sports federations go to scrupulous lengths to ensure that no athlete has an unfair advantage through performance enhancing drugs.
Performance enhancing biology, however...
@womensmarch
If you think intersectional feminism 🖕gives 🖕 you 🖕 the right 🖕 to define 🖕 feminism 🖕 for 🖕 other 🖕 women 🖕 it 🖕 isn't 🖕 feminism 🖕
Am I doing this right?
Dear Corbynites in England. NOW do you understand why we've not jumped on the bandwagon in Scotland. Labour's natural political allies in Scotland should be the SNP but they are Tory enablers up here. I can't envisage a situation where I would ever vote Labour again.
The Labour Group at Falkirk Council have just joined with the Tories in their power grab to oust the minority SNP administration, voting 14 votes to 13, which will now lead to a destabilised Council. Democracy Falkirk style!
It's beyond pathetic that
@Keir_Starmer
has spent more time attacking someone who hasn't broken the ministerial code than he has attacking ministers in the worst Tory government ever, who have on multiple occasions.
@NevilleSouthall
FFS follow some radfems and Martina Navratilova and Sharron Davies. I have very little sympathy for this degree of ignorance after all this time.
With sadness I've unfollowed WFI, for at least the time being. Political representatives, women and men, represent us all, men and women. When a man seeking an answer to a question from an MSP is labelled a misogynist and compared to the killer of Jo Cox, something is wrong.
I had a friend tell me he was worried about the 'calibre' of Scottish politicians if we became independent. Deep cringe. I can't believe anyone can say this when Fox, Johnson, Gove, Davis & Rees-Mogg are driving Brexit.
"Dan Snow, what is it about being related by marriage to the UK's richest man who owns large chunks of Scotland that makes you so opposed to Scottish independence?"
People hate Matt Walsh. They will deliberately choose a side that's not Matt Walsh's on virtually any subject. I don't like the guy and what I think is his repugnant, regressive misogyny. But on this single topic, I'll side with those not harming children against those who are.
From now on, whenever there's an election, remember that the "Scottish" Conservatives tried to stop daily Scottish Government briefings during a global pandemic.
@NEAnarchoGroup
Will you be handing out leaflets about the long-established links between anarchism and paedophile apologism? There are virtually no taboos anarchists won't breach or condone. It's kind of what you're all about. That and misogyny.
@nelsonlflores
Why choose to focus on the word "woman" and not the differing prefixes you used? We all know why, and so do you. The word "woman" doesn't form a magical function here; try replacing "cis" or "trans" with "inflatable" and you'll see what I mean. It really isn't hard to understand.
@AlmostStace
@WEP_UK
This is what Mermaids used to believe before Susie Green became CEO. It highlights the dangerous idiocy of self-ID and sounds a bit terfy. It's also true and not ideologically-driven. H/T
@coccinellanovem
@ButNotTheCity
@SinclairJM1987
Why did a condition traditionally associated with young males see a 5000% increase in young women reporting dysphoria? The same demographic prone to other social contagions due to bodily insecurities, like bulimia, anorexia nervosa, and self-harming.
It's understandable why so many Scots will support Italy tomorrow when so many Italians have guid Scots names like Capaldi, Nutini, Demarco, Nardini, Paolozzi, Zavaroni, Marinello, Spiteri, Macari, Ianucci, Coia, Benedetto, and Conti.
@Aidan_Baron
You're like a Catholic priest talking about the "one true church," while Orthodox and Ethiopian priests laugh at you.
The "wrong type of woman" will always be men.
I think we're at the UDI stage if Westminster tries to abolish or severely diminish the Scottish Parliament. I've not supported that before, but I do after today. Better to stop them smashing the best china than try to reassemble it after it's in a thousand pieces.
Mhairi is basically saying that devout members of the Free Church of Scotland are unfit for public duty and high office. It's an utterly insane position for a politician to take.
A lot of people have asked me my views of the leadership contest. Truthfully, I have been incredibly hurt so far. Hurt originating with the statements
@_KateForbes
has made and since stood by. I, like most people in Scotland, could not care less about someone’s religion. (1/10)
Some supporters of Scottish independence are wilfully distorting my words. They may be panicking but it's time to raise the level of debate in this country.
@Glinner
@Jarlath
A friend said "actually, I don't think women are necessarily entitled to single-sex spaces. I think that demonises men."
Yes, an adult human being said this.
Meanwhile...
@volker_turk
You're a man. You have less right than zero to define feminism. Women's rights are a specific subset of human rights, as are trans rights. Women's rights shouldn't be repurposed to include people who aren't women, including trans identifying males, or it makes a mockery of them.
