No- US mil comes disproportionately from middle three quintiles. Top quintile largely uninterested in abandoning more lucrative pursuits to put skin in the game. Much of the bottom quintile ineligible even if they actually want to serve because mil has ~85-90 IQ cutoff to serve.

Central Nevada is a wild place. Tonopah might be the weirdest place I've ever been out west. Clearly American in character but very much its own thing.
I suspect being able to see for hundreds of miles down the valley whenever you get on the road creates a particular psychology.

Two main reasons, I think:
1. Far-right politics carry much more stigma in Germany than in other Euro countries for, I think, pretty obvious historical reasons.
2. The AfD is *way* further right than almost all of its counterpart parties in other Euro countries.

One of the few things that makes me grateful I was unbearably socially awkward and reclusive as a teenager. I'm 26 and this was starting to get real bad when I was in high school. Easier in 20s than teens to avoid bad crowds and stupid things.
