One of our favourite finds from #Duropolis in #Dorset is also one of the smallest: an exquisite 42mm long bone needle from the base of an Iron Age storage pit. Love it love it love it 😍😍 #FindsFriday

In AD 54 this bronze portrait of the young emperor Nero was made and set up in Colchester In AD 60 insurgents removed it and dropped it in the River Alde In 1907 it was found and went to the @britishmuseum In 2021 it came back to life Think we may need a lie down...

A happy (if *evil mastermind*) dolphin from a 2nd century floor in a #Roman townhouse at Silchester (Insula xxiia) Found in 1900 and recorded by George Fox, this floor was later reburied meaning the dolphin may yet live on beneath the green fields of #Hampshire ... #MosaicMonday

Found in 1796 this gorgeous mosaic came from a bathhouse at Frampton #Roman villa #Dorset It features Neptune, the 4 winds and some spectacularly grumpy dolphins Recorded by Samuel Lysons, the floor was backfilled the same year and has sadly never been seen again #MosaicMonday

Found in the River Avon near Melksham in 1972, these Early Iron Age copper alloy horse harness fittings (phalerae) were presented to the excellent @WiltshireMuseum One had been repeatedly stabbed with a spear (to deliberately break or *kill* it) prior to deposition #FindsFriday

This stunning copper alloy #Roman auxiliary cavalryman's helmet was recovered from a bog at Witcham Gravel #Cambridgeshire and features in the @britishmuseum #Nero exhibition 🤩 The neck guard has 3 bicycle-bell type roundels offering more protection to the wearer #FindsFriday

The one thing I can never get out of my head when watching the film Cleopatra (1963) is that the outfit worn by Richard Burton (as Mark Antony) was reused less than a year later for Sid James in Carry on Cleo 🤯 Whether it was cleaned inbetween movies is not, sadly, recorded...

A Late Iron Age (Birdlip Type) copper alloy brooch From the upper fill of a ditch excavated at Winterborne Kingston #Dorset in 2017 2,000 years after last being worn, the brooch remains closed, the pin held firmly in the catch-plate #FindsFriday
