#OnThisDay in 9 AD, the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest was fought. Three Roman legions under the command of Publius Varus were led into an ambush by the German Arminius. A Roman slaughter ensued and the crushing defeat became one of the worst military disasters in Roman history
