OTD 1553 Queen Jane Grey was deposed. Documents formerly signed ‘Jane the Queen’ were changed to ‘Jana non Regina’ (Jane not the Queen). This warrant to Andrew Dudley in New College, Oxford, shows something similar. Taken during my research trip in 2015.

collection & what incredible condition it’s in! Woven in Tournai in c 1480 for Jean de Daillon, childhood friend of Louis XI. Depicts ideals of medieval chivalry with knight in a field of flowers, made of wool & silk & part of a set.

The exceptionally beautiful & extraordinary crown of Princess Blanche (daughter of Henry IV), although prob made for Anne of Bohemia. This formed part of Blanche’s wedding trousseau when she married Louis of Bavaria, made of gold, sapphires, emeralds, rubies, diamonds & pearls.

Popped in to look at the Saxon church of St Laurence in my home town of Bradford-on-Avon yesterday-I’d forgotten how beautiful it is! Most complete Anglo-Saxon survival from this time, although date of its construction is debated.
