We can debate policies to address homelessness, but quit gay bashing in the process. It’s shameful to infer that there’s something wrong with somebody because of their sexuality.
Old school letter to the editor: “Watson does not have ‘virtually guaranteed’ support from unions and democratic clubs: in fact, he failed to gain the endorsement this past week from his own union, AFSCME, which only requires a 50% threshold.” Doug Greco
I’ve asked Mayor Watson if he’ll be turning back his maximum donation from Trump mega donor & oil and gas billionaire Bryan Sheffield, who along with his father gave Trump and Abbott over $6million and gave Watson’s PAC $75,000 in 2022 to defeat Celia Israel?

Yesterday I officially filed for my place on the ballot in Austin’s mayor’s race this fall. I’ll fight to rebuild our middle class and protect our civil rights. We need a leader who will work for all Austinites…not big money, not big donors, and certainly not the Governor.
“As a former Texas mayor myself, I know that Doug’s proven experience and commitment to fighting for working families and protecting LGBTQ+ rights and the rights of all Texans make him the best candidate for mayor,”said Mayor Annise Parker, President & CEO of LGBTQ+ Victory Fund.
I respect & have worked with many of the unions listed here and understand the influence of incumbency on endorsements. But let’s be clear: running for the 8th time in 27 years, Kirk Watson failed to consolidate the labor movement in Austin by failing to gain the endorsement of

Thoughtful piece on HOME. I think our focus should be to ensure these code changes primarily benefit those who live here, and want to live here, not institutional investors. And coupled with investments in affordable housing, anti-displacement, & rental assistance.

Doug Greco, a candidate for mayor, wrote on X: “Why are Mayor & City wanting to privatize one of its best energy efficiency and climate protection programs (District Energy and Cooling system) and give J.P. Morgan Securities a big cut of the proceeds?
“Raising the second most (to Watson) in this financial reporting period is Greco, who pulled in $88,334….
‘Doug Greco appears to have outperformed the other two challengers, which I think is a little unexpected,’Wick said.”
I’m told that the day I announced my run for Mayor in February a top staffer to Mayor Watson called my former employer and complained. I guess he doesn’t want me in the race. That’s why I need your help now to say I’m not going anywhere!
This week I called on the Mayor to invest $40 million more in workforce and education initiatives. How to pay for it? First, we can end sweetheart deals like Austin Water proposes for Elon Musk..he gets a lower increase than CAP/low income customers 👇
SAFE Alliance and partners are great organizations. In 2021 it was Central Texas Interfaith working with Mayor Adler, Council, Judge Brown, and Commishes to devote this $200 Million in ARPA funds to these permanent housing projects…we worked most of 2021 to get it done.

Kudos Krista. I agree, and I spoke at City Council today and said that the City needs to work much more closely with all school districts in the city, including RRISD
The Mayor voted against a motion Wednesday to devote $4M from savings to address homelessness and other services. +many of the projects the Mayor touts were the result of the ARPA money devoted in 2021 as the result of work between orgs like the one I led and prev Mayor/Council
Since I took office in January 2023, addressing homelessness has been a top priority of mine.

Some Council Members wanted to reduce the city's reserve fund by .3% to free up $4 million to pay for all this stuff. A few holdouts worried that reducing the reserve fund would hamper the city's ability to deal with emergencies in the future. The reserve reduction passed.
This is another reason why I think it is important that the City of Austin needs to have a clear strategy to collaborate with all school districts in the city including RRISD. This is part of what I said at the City budget hearing today.
