We need to state government on the ground leading the charge in distribution. feds are sending in supplies and local govts and civic organizations have been coordinating distribution to families in need. I haven’t yet seen the state in a coordinating role in the ground.

SAFE Alliance and partners are great organizations. In 2021 it was Central Texas Interfaith working with Mayor Adler, Council, Judge Brown, and Commishes to devote this $200 Million in ARPA funds to these permanent housing projects…we worked most of 2021 to get it done.
(1/2/) This morning we celebrated the groundbreaking of The Lancaster. This 60-unit development will provide high-quality, supportive housing with wrap-around services for survivors of domestic violence living homeless. It will be a safe place for people to live & build a life.

The Mayor voted against a motion Wednesday to devote $4M from savings to address homelessness and other services. +many of the projects the Mayor touts were the result of the ARPA money devoted in 2021 as the result of work between orgs like the one I led and prev Mayor/Council
Since I took office in January 2023, addressing homelessness has been a top priority of mine.
We’ve created a new temporary shelter at the Marshalling Yard, which is now housing 300 people; we’ve expanded the Northbridge and Southbridge Shelters to accommodate 130 more people

Some Council Members wanted to reduce the city's reserve fund by .3% to free up $4 million to pay for all this stuff. A few holdouts worried that reducing the reserve fund would hamper the city's ability to deal with emergencies in the future. The reserve reduction passed.

This is another reason why I think it is important that the City of Austin needs to have a clear strategy to collaborate with all school districts in the city including RRISD. This is part of what I said at the City budget hearing today.
Round Rock ISD campuses span four jurisdictions, including the City of Austin and Travis County. 911 calls automatically go to one of four 911 centers or Public Safety Answering Points in the region first.
