Vouchers. Book bans. Crumbs for pay raises. It's all related, and it all shows little respect for Texas educators from the #TxLege . @CyFairAFT member Michael Troncale explained it beautifully last week. #RespectUsExpectUs

All workers deserve a fair wage. That includes teachers, school employees, AND legislative staff. Legislators *themselves* failed working Texans. There's enough money in this budget to take care of hard-working Texans across the board. The #TxLege just chose not to.

NEW: Teacher pay raises are dead. Property tax cuts in dire trouble. But you know what House and Senate leaders were able to agree on? A 29% budget increase for their own offices - the biggest increase in more than 20 years.

Dear #TxLege : Remember HB 2162 that you voted down last week? You're going to hate HB 1605 even more. You need to pay Texas teachers, not out-of-state curriculum companies.

Senator Boris Miles dismantling the arguments for controversial #HB3979 by simply reading the book that offended the proponents, who never read it. The book simply teaches children to dismantle racism wherever they see it. #SaveCivicsEd #txed #txlege

Texas teachers aren't "indoctrinating" students to hate our country. And for the 1,000th time, critical race theory isn't taught in K-12 public schools. These are fake arguments designed to stir up political angst at the expense of students & teachers. #TxLege #TxEd

Every district has a process in place to challenge inappropriate books. The #TxLege isn't needed. Those who voted for #HB900 can justify it how they want. But they voted to ban books, to disrespect librarians, & to silence LGBTQIA+ kids. We'll remember it at the ballot box.

To our trans students: This is a dark and shameful day. But you have teachers who care about you. Custodians who care. Bus drivers, librarians, and counselors who care. We see you for who you are. We support you. We stand by you.

And with that, #HB25 passes the full House of the #TXlege by a vote of 76-54. We will not stop fighting to protect transgender children.

"It wasn’t just that you were unqualified to lead America’s educational system, as someone who never worked at a public school, attended a public school, or took out a school loan. It was that you were the opposite of qualified."

@JeremySWallace @GovAbbott Anyone ask him about the $4.5 billion appropriated by the Legislature for public schools last year without a bill to deliver it? Does the governor have plans to disburse that money, which is well within his rights to do?
