For one, anyone who is considering becoming a surrogate or using a surrogate to have a child should steer clear of any states where there are abortion restrictions.

Sorry you're all going through this. If you do let him move in to your house i would put a time limit on it, like 6 months to a year to see how it goes. Have a contract and charge minimal rent until he can get enough together to move into his own place.
@cllaucll2y
So sorry for your loss! I lost my mom a year ago at a hospital in the villages to cholecystitis that became septic. Took them almost a week to decide to get an ultrasound of her gallbladder. By then kidneys started shutting down. This was a UF affiliated hospital.
"So successful has white supremacist patriarchy been at convincing white women especially they’re lucky to live in the U.S. and not Saudi Arabia or Iran, that so many white women did not pay enough attention to the theocracy that white supremacy was building right here at home."
Fed up as I am with the refusal to take seriously the danger of white supremacist Christian patriarchy, I launched my If so-and-so was a Muslim to hold up a mirror to U.S. hypocrisy over zealotry & “religious freedom”
If Harrison Butker Was a Muslim

@monaeltahawy
Exactly! When I was doing research in Iran, whenever I came back the only thing most(white) Americans would ask me about was, "what about oppression and having to wear that thing on your head?" When I would respond with what about women's oppression in the US? Blank stares.
@PhTaheri
As a professor who does both, I disagree. My research helps contribute to my teaching, and in my teaching I can mentor students in their research. The two are controllable and complementary.
Just signed a contract! Happy to be working with

You obviously didn't understand my comment. What I said was that the article focuses on the couple but barely mentions the child-victim.
@DrFrankRoberts
26 when i started masters program at UH Manoa. 28 transferred to UC Berkeley. Married, had 2 kids and divorced in grad school. 40 when i finished PhD. 42, finished post doc. Adjuncted for decades + non profit work. 59 hired for TT position at UA and now up for tenure.

I found cameras at an Airbnb and immediately contacted them to move to a new place and be refunded the remainder of what I'd paid for the 30 day stay. Thankfully, Airbnb saw this as a security concern, gave me authorization to move to a new listing, and reimbursed me.
@Michell33650674
Want to episcopal church when i was a kid, grandparents were presbyterian and baptist. Parents & I moved from OH to CA when i was 12 and stopped. I tried a church at 16 but stopped when minister said every other group but us was going to hell. I became an anthropologist.

Ssorry this happened to you! I know how this feels as the same thing happened to me when I pitched a short doc on egg donors for Reveal, from Center for investigative reporting. Shared my website, teaser reel, applied for one of their grants, and they ran with it instead. Awful!
@LauraChapin
@UTAustin
So tragic to see our higher education system gutted in so many places. I hope this trend reverses before it's irrevocably destroyed.
@scordoban
@timgill924
I wrote my book in my head while hiking the trails, then came back and drafted and reworked my chapters. Then one Sunday I planted blueberry bushes in my garden, that now give me a protein shake every morning before I go to teach my classes.
@DrLisaCorrigan
I’m thinking this might call for a collective op-ed of concerned scholars about the dismantling of higher ed for the
@nytimes
. This goes well beyond foreign language depts. ( which are important enough to protect). Higher Ed is about so much more than producing workers.
@SabraMBoyd
@markmisoshnik
I'd be careful with reveal. I pitched them a story once and applied for a film grant through them. Pitch and grant were rejected. About 9-12 months later they came out with a short doc on exactly the topic i pitched and won an award.
The voices of donor conceived people are starting to finally be heard. Another presentation mentions DCP rights to know where they come from. DCP still need a seat at the table tho.

If only I had a dollar for each time someone told me to "calm down," "be normal," or "stay on topic." Can't they see every topic is connected? 😆
@GaskarthJamie
Yes. I review at least two articles for every one I submit, usually more. Try to turn around within 4 weeks-- not 6 months like some have done with my articles. It would also help if publishers offered to waive OA fees for reviewers.
@oliviastowell
And I was told by another colleague I was "brave" for wearing a dress at a conference. Seems the academic take me seriously look is pretty narrowly defined.
So excited! Just submitted my manuscript on time to my editor Meagan Simpson

Yes. ADHD is remembering one day before you need to rent a car that your driver's license expired a month ago and you have to hurry up and get to the DMV to renew it immediately or otherwise you'll not be able to rent a car, will miss your flight...
@RBReich
I've been battling to receive a $675 return since 2019. They've likely spent more money trying to not give me money I'm due, rather than simply paying.
@NewsHour
@JudyWoodruff
And yet, when medical anthropologists and sociologists submit their research proposals for such work we're repeatedly critiqued for our qualitative methods! Go figure.
@Taliasun0
@SenWarren
@POTUS
So are you actually making the argument that White people are better with their money than Black people. You know that sounds rather racist, right?
@FromPhDtoLife
In person conferences are far more interesting and engaging, the opportunity to travel and eat out and socialize with people i haven't seen in ages, meeting new people... there's no way to make online conferences not flat. They can be ok, but not a substitute.
@jdesmondharris
Guilty, here. But it was true. My kids were eating salads, grilled salmon, anchovies, whole grain breads, etc, by the age of 2 cuz that's all I bought. I never understood the whole "child's menu" thing. Now as adults they eat all kinds of crap, tho. 😆
@ProfJoyceHarper
In my surveys I had to start doing a prescreening, after which I would give them a survey access password. I got fewer surveys but more accurate data.
@FelixChopra
@Ingar30
Someone appears to have failed the class on qualitative methods. Interviewing properly is a highly intuitive, interactive and open-ended process.
So fun to see my work cited in Ariadna Lanski's talk on gamete donation in the 21st century. Yes, egg donors prefer open identity over anonymity.

This dilemma continues well beyond grad school, I'm afraid. I got nicknamed "Barbie" by female fellow students when I dressed in anything that appeared like I cared about appearance. Strange.
@ReprodMed
Most donors in my study actually want open donation--some from the start! Open our identity release at 18 donation will only deter those for whom privacy is important, and they shouldn't donate anyway!
@adhdjesse
It's like living multiple lives simultaneously. Scholar, musician, dancer, singer, athlete, traveler, filmmaker, writer, seamstress, equestrian.... 😆 but definitely not a housekeeper!
@drcadesky
And this kind of attitude is why many patients seek out naturopaths instead of MDs in the first place. Testing provides information. Why not help make that available?
@madeline4health
And the unintended other consequences of this is that it could then be expanded to all prescriptions, including contraceptives, medication abortion.... This is bad policy!
@mariellaf1
It reads like a hit piece on the Newsom clinic. There's no context regarding the unique situation of the high dose patients, what "high dose" means, how patients were monitored, etc. Not to mention that any practice w/thousands of patients are going to have some w/ complications.
I’m in shock and disbelief. After 22 years in non profit and higher ed, it appears my student loans have finally been forgiven! Could this be true? Pinch me! Thank you President Biden and VP Harris! This is life changing!!!
@POTUS
@VP
@mclemoremr
Agreed. Get so sick of having to defend the right to the professional title and respect I worked my ass off to earn! Can't count the times I've been interviewed and the male was assumed "Dr." or "Professor" when I was refer to as "Diane."
After 3 final months of a five-year research project on egg donation in Spain, it's a strange feeling to close my laptop, leave the clinic, and prepare to return home. So grateful to everyone in Spain who supported the work!
@WhiteHouse
Yes, over 100K after being more than 20 years in IDR program and public service! Life changing! Thank you! The first prez to make an enormous and immediate positive impact on my life! (Though obamacare was enormously helpful too 😃).
@LauraHigh5
Medically, the word "donor" is simply the person a cell, organ, tissue comes from, regardless of whether or not they are paid. Medically, "Donor" doesn't mean philanthropic/altruistic.
@McGahee220
When I moved from CA to AL I was shocked when neighbors across the street were burning leaves. Smoke was pouring into my house. I complained & told them I have a respiratory condition (i like to breathe) and they stopped.
@timgill924
@Mattzwolinski
As someone who has been in academia for over 30 years, I strongly disagree. Yes, get your work done, but definitely hang out with friends, exercise, and have fun on your life too. Professional and personal survival depends on it.
Want to see more research on Egg Donors? Be a part of

Seems to me abortion restrictions/bans violate first amendment freedom of religion. If a person follows a religion in which life is not considered to begin at conception, and they are not able to obtain a desired abortion, then they are not free to live according to their faith.

The "gifted" ADHDer also fails classes, unless or until they can find the thing the lights the spark. Graduated from high school with a 1.8 GPA Sr. Year. Yet managed to get a PhD from Berkeley thanks to my passion for anthro.
Sorry. No. To the man who asked one question. Walked away from the mic. Then came back and expected me to give back the mic so he could ask a second question. Holding my ground. Get back in line. It's my turn. Conferencing while female.
@adhdjesse
I don't do resolutions. I do a theme. One theme. Like, this year I'm going to explore my relationship with money. Or, this year, open social networks. It's a completely different mindset than a "resolution" and completely devoid of guilt and judgement to "accomplish."
@kemi_aa
@ParisNoire
I do. Then I pass the answer through an AI generator or paste the answer in chat gpt and ask if they wrote it. I also paste the question in AI and get the answer it generates and cross check with essays turned in! Ridiculous amount of work and really sad that it's come to this.
Happening now: Should we steer clear of eugenics in reproductive medicine? I wonder if the question would be better framed with "How do we steer clear of eugenics in repro med?"
@ESHRE
@Yolandaforgov
If you declare yourself a "pro-life" Dem then what exactly is your stance on a person's right to abortion, privacy, and bodily autonomy? State clearly please. You cannot have it both ways. IMO a "pro life dem" is basically another word for Republican. What do you stand for?
