On a road is one thing: in jungle under triple canopy is another. Walking speed is less than 1 mph, some slopes are not traversible, everything is wet and dark. Thick vegetation muffles sound. Someone disoriented, malnourished, & inexperienced could easily get lost out there.

I don't know how much experience you have walking off-road in steep, thick jungle terrain, but I would estimate that I would be lucky to average 1 mph *period*. "Walking straight" is not an option at any point in a jungle. Steep slopes, wet ground, plants in every direction.
