The racism in online Christian circles is disturbing. Most of the schools I grew up in were 50/50 white/black I’m also of Jewish ancestry. The filth that is spewed about people of different ethnic origins on here is anti-Christ. Jesus was Jewish. St. Augustine was African.

Pope Francis called for a jubilee year next year. He pulled all the Medieval protocol hinting he is calling leaders of nations to cancel debt. This may have just won Biden’s vote from me. He may be a politician, but he’s on good terms with the Pope. Debt forgiveness is good.

Timothy Radcliffe isn’t a heretic. His teachings are marriage are conservative and in line with Catholic dogma. Like James Martin, all he has done is call for legal recognition of LGBT couples and their individual rights. Nothing heretical about this. This is humane.

Most academic philosophy professors are not philosophers. Philosophy is a lifestyle, a pursuit of wisdom. Academics that create narrow scopes for themselves and take pride in titles are more akin to the Sophists than Socrates.

It’s untrue that Hume converted on his deathbed, But Heidegger did! He reconciled with the Catholic Church weeks before dying after meeting with a Jesuit priest and philosopher. The priest later endorsed Heidegger’s thought as compatible with Catholic doctrine.

Duns Scotus proved the existence of God. Not Aquinas, the 5 ways are subject to the problem of induction. Scotus has a completely deductive argument that doesn’t rely on questionable premises.

Yes, I believe the existence of God can be shown rationally. The thing is this doesn’t ignite someone’s faith. God could exist and the universe still be meaningless. The God of philosophy is simply the One. Some may find meaning in this, most won’t.

The reason few analytic philosophers study the Neo-Platonists, is for the same reason few study the Church Fathers, most Asian philosophy, or the Spanish mystics. The Enneads is essentially a work of meditative/devotional philosophy. Not a text on logic.

Kant, Newton, and Aquinas were all very likely autistic. For the more average IQ folks, well the Medieval world in some ways was more forgiving to autism than modernity. Everything from monk to truffle gatherer were socially valued roles that an autistic person could thrive in.

Do not self condemn. God sees through personal struggles. Depression and other mental health problems can cloud the possibility of living an ideal Christian life at times. This does not make you evil, it opens the door for a renewed faith. God comes to us through circumstance.

Metaphysically I have no problems with Christianity. The thing that challenges my faith, where I see Christianity as demanding a leap of faith, is the question of if the historical Jesus was and is really the Christ. If yes, everything flows from there. If no, well….

I believe the Roman Catholics will reunite with the Church of the East and the Coptic Orthodox Church this century. I believe reunification with the Greek Orthodox Church is on the table but a little bit more complicated. Reunification with the Russian Orthodox is more distant.
