Nonsense. EU accession to ECHR is a Lisbon legal requirement. It was the court that objected to specific points of jurisdiction, not the Council or Commission. The EU is legally obliged to join and there are no political objections to doing so.

Interestingly I believe it is more definitive than that: Brexit resulted in a talent inversion in the Conservative Party (the best qualified people generally didn’t support it), and this has led to a rapidly shrinking pool of ability. Hence this chaos. I could be wrong of course.

It’s a ridiculous idea. Cyclists cause barely any accidents. They shouldn’t jump lights, but if they do they will come off worse. The law here is an ass : we need a Dutch style law where the most powerful entity is presumed guilty by default - this makes everyone far more careful

The modelling was correct. What was wrong was the response, which was far too late and reluctant, resulting in over 180k deaths - some of the highest per capita globally. And climate change is real. We have know about it since the early 1900’s. Better to deal with it and fix it.
