Tomorrow I become a published author 📚
I’m an unknown, ordinary (if not a bit weird) person and here I am, with a book being released tomorrow ✨
I can’t tell you what it means to me to be in this position. I’m so grateful to each of you who have supported. Diolch o galon 🌌
WHERE ARE THE BUTTERFLIES? THE BEES? THE CRICKETS? THE CATERPILLARS? I’ve seen two caterpillars since March. The only butterflies have been a smattering Common Blues. I’ve not even had a spider in the house. Is everyone else finding the same?
My wildflower verge or ‘mini meadow’, continues to bring hate my way 😂
Cannot believe the absolute fuss grown adults are making over a small section of long grass. We wonder why nature is struggling 🤦🏼♀️
@IoloWilliams2
@ChrisGPackham
I’m potentially going to internet jail for this but…
I don’t get the fuss over Christmas Dinner. Is it not just a Sunday Roast but served with extra stress?
Each tide now brings with it so much death.
40+ new dead Guillemot today and 2 Terns, adding to the bodies of those brought in on other tides.
Sorry to share such sadness but we really need to be aware of what’s happening to our natural world.
Expecting to be publicly lynched for this but it’s becoming a common sight around me.
I understand it is so painful to lose a loved one, and naturally we have their favourite places we go to remember them.
Please don’t alter those favourite places (unless you have permission)
I can honestly say I’ve NEVER been climbed by a mole before!
I think the poor little critter must have been flooded out before attempting to climb the nearest warm and dry thing (me)
What an absolute wonder to behold this little creature of darkness 🌌
Tea time on a Feb eve. These houses should be alive with the activity of families after school. Instead they sit here lifeless. I tried to count all the soulless houses in my village, stopped when I hit 100. We don’t need to build more houses. We need to use these.
In the village of Rhosneigr today, a group of people with labradoodles complaining that we shouldn’t advertise our beaches when there’s no beach. It’s called a high tide. It happens twice a day 🙈 god help us all
Who else is sick of defending Welsh culture daily? Raise your hand 🙋♀️ 🏴
Had a day of being attacked on social media for sharing the petition to protect our place names. If this was any other culture in the world it would already be protected.
Finding out that a man in the nature community who aggressively intimidated me a few months ago, has been doing it to other women and has actively encouraged other men to stop women entering hides (and they’ve obliged) has made me sick to my stomach.
If you're going to a festival, take your shit HOME with you. I don't care how tired or hungover you are. Look at the state of this place, people live here. Wildlife lives here. Throw away culture is absolutely disgusting
#festivallife
We are one of the most Nature depleted countries on the PLANET, yet the BBC won’t air David Attenborough’s latest due to fear of right wing backlash? So we can’t televise the truth now incase it upsets the ones profiting from the destruction? Got it.
A snapshot of life in Wales; a homeless persons tent just a stones throw away from a vacant holiday home. Two types of coastal ‘home’. What housing crisis?
More anger faced today. Looks like I may not be allowed to continue with the verge project. Really disappointed after a year of it bringing me and lots of others so much joy. Another note, an angry personal tirade delivered in person to me, and threats to mow it.
Didn’t expect this to spread so far and wide so for info: I’m in north Cymru 🏴, I plant for pollinators. I live in open countryside and work in the countryside, in the outdoors.
Today’s top Facebook rant was a visitor who was complaining because the seas around Anglesey have jellyfish in them and his kids wanted to have a nice swim 🐙 Not like you’re in their habitat or anything 😂
Rescue! Can someone help ID? Swallows? 5 saved, 1 sadly died hanging from the nest. Tragically parents had used fishing wire to line the nest and the chicks were all tangled in it. Back in the nest, wire cleared. Hope the other 5 make it 💙 fishers please don’t leave waste 🎣
You should all also be aware that light pollution is a huge driver of insect declines, around the world. So please adopt Dark Sky friendly lighting! It’s easy to do and I talk all about it in my book - All Through the Night - available here ✨
Two trees/wreaths have been dug in and planted. By digging into this delicate ecosystem you are causing damage to the very place you and your loved one hold dear. There are better things that can be done in remembrance.
In a rather excellent turn of events, after last nights
@BBCCountryfile
I’ve been inundated with people wanting to change their lights to dark sky friendly ones!🌌💡
With energy bills set to soar, changing your lights is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to save money THREAD
To plant an alien species into this environment has the potential to go on and cause issues for the whole landscape, it’s wildlife and beyond.
I do appreciate this is a sensitive topic, and it’s awful to lose people we love. I truly appreciate the want to honour their memory.
Saw some old trees being cut down in my village yesterday which were home to around 30 corvids or more, a lovely rookery. Just seen them all trying to huddle on a bit of fencing in the storm 💔 why won’t people let nature have a home
Feeling rather upset, after receiving a mouthful of abuse after visiting Cemlyn Nature Reserve. I asked a man (very politely) if he knew his dogs should be on lead, he was extremely rude back and refused. Why would you let your dogs off in a NNR?
@North_Wales_WT
@NTWales
binge watching Britain’s Most Historic Towns & now have to tour all these places post covid. Also have the ultimate woman crush on
@theAliceRoberts
now. Love that you don’t shy away from Britain’s difficult past & tell women’s stories too that are usually so absent in these docs
I’m sorry if you recognise this and if you do, I am so sorry for your loss.
But two of these items are plastic and have been placed on an exposed headland where they’ve just added to the issue of plastic waste.
I didn’t report him because I thought, ‘what’s the point’. Today the point was made clear; To protect other women and to ensure our nature community is accessible to all. Let alone their behaviour is endangering our wildlife, all in the name of photography*

I totally did not expect so many lovely replies - thank you everyone! I’ve been driving home so haven’t had a chance to reply to all of you but I will!
For more info, this is a public verge I ‘adopted’, I don’t have a garden, so this has been a little haven for me!
If you’re going to erase some more local culture by buying a second home, do you have to be so tasteless when renaming it? Loss of welsh names is a big issue and this is just a joke
Just hearing that a possible 80,000 litres of crude oil has potentially been spilt off the North Coast of Wales. It is likely to be pushed towards the English shores of Lancashire. Be vigilant, report wildlife in distress if you see any to
@BDMLR
as soon as you can on 01825765546
But by doing this people are inadvertently damaging the very place they hold dear in their memory, which I’m positive is not their intention, nor is it the way they would want to commemorate a loved one.
I’ve also had an absolute hate campaign waged against me by people in the community who were outraged. A village that was once wild and full of life has been concreted and developed to death.
5 houses on the street I grew up on are now
@Airbnb
, the remaining private holiday lets. How can you seriously think you’re not doing any wrong and post ads like this? ENTIRE bungalow. Yes, stolen from a community.

Sweeping away environmental protections so your mates can build expensive housing estates and offices on which they’ll make millions in profit? I hope England stands up to this.
Did you know Cymru has the highest percentage of protected Dark Skies of anywhere in the world? 🏴🌌

When are
@NetflixUK
going to give the Welsh people what they want?
A lavish, semi-fictional drama based on the life and times of the fabulous and shape shifting 5th Marquess of Anglesey, Henry Cyril Paget.
LOOK AT WHAT HE SERVES!
There are many places you can donate trees to, or you could donate to the volunteer team that keeps this place special, such as the footpaths vols, or those invaluable teams like the coastguard or RNLI. These are much more fitting ways of honouring our lost loves 💙
These aren’t the grand, big houses on the seafront. These are modest, family homes. The owners even keep the heating blaring when no one is holidaying there, to keep the place dry. What a waste of energy resources when so many are in fuel poverty.
#hawlifywadra
tragic day yesterday,I lost my two dogs to suspected blue algae poisoning. They were my best friends and it was traumatic. I am beside myself, grief is truly the price of love. Bucky and Luna I will forever be in debt to the positive impact you had on our lives
Took my dad birding today and came across a lovely older gent. He came to talk to us and was very apologetic for being emotional. He had lost his wife of 25 years just last week and was feeling completely lost and alone.
He shared his binos, bird tales and stories of his wife
Sick of this attitude towards welsh language.
@guardian
why do you continue to belittle the welsh culture and language on one hand and push holiday priorities on the other?
Something has to change. This entire community has been displaced. The ones nearby are unravelling too. What can be done?
There are enough homes here alone to house a good chunk of those in need. Instead they lay here. Empty. Whilst families go homeless.
@RhunapIorwerth
As a last note, if you are struggling with loss and grief this season, please reach out to someone. Equally you can contact the

Try being 5’1” and changing bed sheets. It’s wholly unethical to expect short people to change their own bedding. I could die in a duvet cover and no one would know.
Last night’s first full moon of the year was dazzlingly clear, perfect conditions for an ISS Moon Transit and for once in my life I didn’t mess up 😂
Hard to believe there are human beings on that tiny space craft
@Space_Station
whizzing around the planet at 5 miles per sec 🛰
I have loved this book so much
@RobGMacfarlane
I've hiked with my dad since I could walk, on wildlife walks all over Wales. Now he's too ill to do what he could before this book has let him walk in his mind to places he remembers.
@ChrisGPackham
@IoloWilliams2
Thanks for the support chris. It’s actually a roadside verge that I have had to watch be scalped every 2-3 weeks for years. I adopted it! Every little helps 💕
Irresponsible ‘journalism’ from
@thesundaytimes
here, touting an already struggling island as a place perfect for ‘second homes’ with not one bit of regard for the issues faced by locals - house prices and death of community and culture
@RhunapIorwerth
I’ve been wanting to go and study for a number of years but told myself I wasn’t good enough. I’m not ‘academic’. I have dyslexia and ADHD. I’m not suited to uni and I probably won’t get in anyway. Well, they let me in 🥳 I might not make it to the end but I got accepted!
This is a great resource! Not sure how to pronounce a Welsh place name?
Map Llais tells you how! Just click on the place name to hear the correct pronunciation 🏴
Sometimes, volunteering in the community can be thankless, relentless and upsetting. Some people are attacking a small project in which a verge is being left to go to wildflower. It’s not harming anyone, why is there so much anger in the world towards nature being nature?
Today we conquered a genuine monster from the deep thrown up by yesterday’s storm! Over a ton of fishing longline, ghost gear and over 20 hooks. At least it’s out of the sea now. Thanks to everyone who stopped to help

around Rhosneigr today. Diolch Huw and team for your excellent work today!
Whatever your views on the Welsh ‘essentials only’ drama, it’s exposed us as capitalism addicts. Not being able to buy whatever we want for a mere 17 days has sent us into meltdown, yet that’s exactly the shift we need to be making to stop climate change and save the planet 🌍
Solo toad patrol
@froglifers
64 in 30 mins is a personal record. Sadly probably an equal amount I didn’t save in time 💔
It’s the glamorous night out attire that wins for me though!
Final warning - get outside right now and wait for darkness. These stats are once in a generation and not to be missed! Try and get a clear view north, away from lights and keep your eyes peeled. Good luck everyone ✨
#Aurora
These went up 3 days ago, adjacent to a very sensitive ecological site. Obscenely powerful, super white and high Kelvin. Note the insects flocking into the light - most of these will have perished over night after failing to go about their normal life pollinating, mating etc 💡
I am delighted to congratulate and welcome the newest Welsh Dark Sky Area into the fold - Llongyfarchiadau Presteigne! The first Dark Sky Community in Wales 🏴
The work the community have put in alongside
@KeremAsfuroglu
has been incredible ✨
Every morning now Bear goes to the garden wall to wait for his new pal.
Our neighbour is on older gent who’s definitely Bear’s bestie. They have a morning nose scratch and share a piece of toast 😭
Bear will stand there for ages, then he sees him and wags his tail off 🐕
On my way home from work, just minutes from home I pass a small copse of trees where I have to stop to turn. A barn owl flew straight at me and into the trees. I could see into it’s beautiful eyes and we looked straight at each other for what felt like ages. I am buzzing.
Avian flu is the cause of these deaths. Please do report any sightings of dead or sick birds to
@DefraGovUK
When walking keep dogs on leads and away from wildlife. This message is not getting through.
I’ve been keeping a secret.
As we are beyond the solstice and tip toeing back towards darkness, it’s time to set it free.
I have written a book - All Through The Night - about why our lives depend on darkness ✨
It will be available this September thanks to
@HarperNorthUK
‘We are all born in the darkness, moulded in it, and it is into the darkness that we will all return … But from the moment we are pushed into the bright light of day, we learn to fear the dark, to avoid it, to destroy it.’
Perfect late night reading

@swpolice
could you please look into this racist pillock? Wales is a country where we welcome everyone. These people are probably Welsh themselves. This is blatant racism and needs investigation.
Took the day off today to spend it with this loaf before we visit Liverpool to see the UK’s communal therapist
@rickygervais
live! 🤩
Last time I was there we were rescuing this beast from a cesspit of humanity, a very poorly pup destined to a life chained up outside
The verge is to be mowed soon anyway, as you can see most of it has gone to seed now. Here it was a few weeks back. Could barely even see any growth (the common blue I followed from the verge down the road to where it stayed still long enough to photo)
@AccountOfJ3nn1
Well this has got much wider attention geographically than my locality like I assume! I’m in Cymru 🏴 wet year, been pretty miserable.
Who knew that an Anglesey beach played a role in saving Japanese Sushi?
Traeth Crigyll, Rhosneigr, and it’s seaweedy shores became the saving grace for Sushi thanks to one pioneering botanist - Kathleen Drew-Baker
‘Mother of the Sea Day’ is the Japanese festival in her honour
Tonight I saw a hare for the first time ever in the wild 💙 for years they’ve eluded me. Absolutely ecstatic. It ran along in front of my van for a while then leapt into a field and we locked eyes over the hedge for a few brief seconds. Wonderful.
A Mammoth of the Neolithic - the tallest standing stone in Cymru 🏴
Interestingly it is alleged to have an alignment with Winter and Summer Solstices ☀️
This stone has notches in the top where in the 18th C someone used it to hold the timbers of their cottage roof 🏡
Spending a night under the stars watching an ancient lump of ice on its journey from round the sun from one of Anglesey’s most important places of heritage was a little bit special! Mynydd Parys, Amlwch a Comet Neowise ☄️
After having a swastica drawn on her house in Gwynedd yesterday...
It was great to hear this morning that Margaret Ogunbanwo’s business, Maggie’s Exotic Foods, is now booming with people supporting her family from across Wales/UK after the racist attack.

I just wanted to make some space for nature. The lesson here is though if you love somewhere that you pass regularly, let people know. Write to the council saying so. People are so quick to complain but almost never write to say why they appreciate something.
Just another self shout out for my article in BBC Sky At Night Magazine because I’ve never had anything published before and it has rocked my tiny universe 😆🌌✨

you should be ashamed. Absolute disgrace. If you loved your city you should be able to celebrate without causing so much avoidable waste. Shameful, disrespectful and embarrassing.
