I’m not sure it is the wrong choice. Audits generally start with an overview and then go to randomly picking at examples, looking at anything that seems to stand out, and then investigating those things more carefully. This is presumably what Elon’s troop is doing. When they find things, they can send in forensic accountants to look in detail at that area.

OpenAI was about to attempt to turn entirely for-profit by removing the non-profit part of itself and calling it essentially of no value. Elon putting a value on it stops this happening. That's why it's a genius move.
