In 2009, I worked alongside profoundly brave Palestinian paramedics in Gaza. It was during a 3-week offensive, during which over 330 children were killed. The horror we witnessed, daily, was devastating.Years later, that trauma continues. In Gaza, there is no 'P' in PTSD.

Spending the last night of 2019 amongst the many profoundly brave women, men and children who are enduring the limbo and hardships of Moria refugee camp. With hope for a new year, and decade, of more solidarity, empathy and justice. #RefugeeSolidarity #MigrationIsCourage

Direct Provision is on it's way out. The brave, visionary work of @masi_asylum has led the way for long overdue change. Great to hear @rodericogorman recognising the past years of rights-based self-organisation by asylum seekers & MASI organisers. #21YearsTooLate #LateLateShow

The bleak videos from Lesvos, of islanders yelling racist abuse at wet and cold refuge-seeking families after 7 hours at sea, is an indictment on us all. The scenes represent Brussels as much as they do Greece- EU's externalised borders are fuelling the Right. #SafePassage

Yes, there is relief in watching the Trump-ship sink. But the waters of fascism, racism and patriarchy that kept him afloat remain. The only bulwark against that is emancipatory social movement organising- that goes far deeper and broader than electoral politics ever can.

#COVID19 is clarifying the back-bone labour that keeps countries running- social care & medical personnel, cleaners, hauliers, growers & teachers. When this passes, any attempt to go back to a neo-liberal status quo of precarity & austerity needs to be strongly organised against.

The total depravity of bombing a hospital. Reported hundreds dead in Al Ahli Baptist hospital- with devastating images of the aftermath. The culture of bleak impunity in targeting medical infrastructure, paramedics & First Responders- continues & intensifies. #GazaAttack

Israeli regime airstrikes have hit Al Ahli hospital in central Gaza where thousands of people were sheltering & receiving treatment from previous bombardments. One doctor said that he suspects hundreds have been killed.

Vigilante-ism is gaining traction in Greece. In this video refuge-seekers are met by an armed group. Medics, journalists, NGO staff and volunteers have also been physically attacked in the past days. EU countries need to step up, expand and accelerate relocation programmes now.

Safe Passage (a thread) In 2017 a decommissioned Irish Navy ship, the LE Aisling, was sold by public auction to a private buyer. One year later it was re-sold, at over six times the price for which it was bought, to the Libyan Navy, and re-named Al Karama (which means Dignity).

The Al-Khalil family is comprised of educators and engineers. They survived a horrific war in Raqqa, Syria. On their journey- across land and sea- they were shot at, beaten, imprisoned. Yesterday their asylum claim in Greece was refused. They need a country of refuge. Please RT.

More Physical Distancing ( #CloseThePubs , school closures don't equal school holidays, do the right thing by elderly communities and those at risk- stay at home), less Social Distancing. More than ever, social solidarity, care & community organising is needed. It is the antidote.

Yesterday I narrowly made my flight, late, at Dublin airport. As the plane took off I noticed- too late to take a stand- a man nearby in clear, silent despair. Adesina was being deported to Abuja, after 5 long years in the limbo of Direct Provision. Deportations from Ireland 1/2

A poignant message from the brilliant @donnahsvuma to asylum-seeking parents of children trapped in Direct Provision: "You are not failures. The system has failed you". The end of this unjust, hope-eroding system is so long overdue. #21yearstoolate #LateLateShow

The absolute disconnect/ arrogance of media pundits who cite regional human rights violations to undermine our solidarity with Palestinians. For years we have marched against state violence in Egypt, Syria, Iran etc because yes, we actually care about justice & rights for all.
