Women in Sudan & in the diaspora have been & continue to be, at the forefront of the ongoing struggle for justice-based political & social change. We made this short film to platform women-led Sudanese activism in Ireland & the hope that informs it.

In 2009, I worked alongside profoundly brave Palestinian paramedics in Gaza.
It was during a 3-week offensive, during which over 330 children were killed.
The horror we witnessed, daily, was devastating.Years later, that trauma continues.
In Gaza, there is no 'P' in PTSD.
Bansky doing what people of conscience can and should be trying to do- practically, tangibly & financially supporting refugee sea rescue.
More boats in the water, more solidarity on land.
If anything, when we come out the other side of

In the past 3 days, 100 women, men and children have died in the Med.

In 2009 I worked alongside Palestinian paramedics in Gaza. They were the bravest, most committed people I have ever met.
Two days ago, 4 of them (3 of whom I knew personally- beautiful humans) were killed while rescuing.
Paramedics have long been a target.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society: “Despite the occupation's threats to shell; the decision has been made. We did and will not leave. Our medics will carry on their humanitarian duties. We won’t leave people face death alone.”
Last night, 57 more refuge-seeking women, men & children drowned in the Central Med.
Their deaths were enabled by EU policies that force people to make such perilous journeys.
I wrote this for the Irish Times--a glimpse of some of those who survive.
This is Helen- one of the many deeply committed, empathetic, hard working nurses on strike. Helen also works as a volunteer medic in refugee camps. Having worked with her in Greece, Calais and with refugee kids sleeping rough in Paris, I know where my total solidarity lies today.

Wael is a profoundly brave, committed journalist & mentor to so many in Gaza- kind & steady amidst the horror. For all of us who spent time with him it was clear that his family was everything. His utterly broken heart is being felt around the world tonight.
#GazaUnderAttack
Heartbreaking. Al Jazeera Arabic is reporting that the family of their Gaza correspondent Wael Dahdouh - his wife, his son, his daughter - have been killed in an Israeli strike on a house they were sheltering in.
Today this little person, Tadhg, is nine. He has been the best company during these times- his heart & sense of adventure grows with each year. His grandparents, Dad, aunt & uncles are in lock down in 5 countries and he's missed them today. Virtual b-day love would be great 💜
I love this photo. Ismael, a young refuge-seeker, and now student, from Darfur meets the President of Ireland, Michael D Higgins. Ismael has survived alot- violence in Libya, the sea crossing, Calais- with bravery and hope. Here, his beautiful heart was seen.

Over the past 6 years I have volunteered in refugee camps in Lesvos, Greece. My 9 year old child (here with a brave, beautiful survivor) sometimes joins me.

Remembering a Gaza not defined by massacres, bombs & fragmenting grief tonight.
Fishermen singing at dawn, the tenderness & hospitality, paramedics able to sit in the sun & drink tea and just be.

Watching the uncertainty and panic-buying in response to

in Dublin, spare a thought for those in refugee camps & the lives endured through constant war before they risked all to seek refuge in a hostile Europe. Aspects of this new, temporary reality is their everyday.
Please RT. Yesterday's violence in Lesvos emphasises the need to evacuate and relocate refugee families & unaccompanied minors from Greece. Ireland needs to step up and provide refuge to families such as the Al Khalils. The trauma and despair in Moria Camp cannot be overstated.

One of the most powerful things I've read this week speaks of 'moral consistency' not equalling 'moral equivalency'.
That we can hold multiple things true- the violent reality of assymetrical, oppressive power & the visceral grief of all who mourn their massacred loved ones.
The level of trauma, overwhelm & despair amongst refugees in Lesvos, Greece can't be over-stated. Nadia, a Yazidi survivor of SGBV, whom we interviewed for the article said of Moria camp "This war is a psychological one, and it is destroying people, too.”

there cannot be a return to the status quo. Neo-liberalism and austerity killed people. Capitalism is killing our planet. Socialised, universal, solidarity-based care is possible. It is the only antidote.
The videos last night from Dagestan were profoundly chilling. The Palestinian solidarity movement has no room for antisemitism, and it needs to be isolated & strongly & collectively opposed wherever & whenever it emerges. Never again for anyone.
Unbelievably awful reports of antisemitism coming out of Dagestan. What terrifying times we are in. We must do all we can to de-escalate this political crisis and fight these spirals of hatred that are spilling out on our streets.
Some of the most powerful voices emerging amidst the horror of the past week have been some of the families of civilians killed & taken hostage.

“You can’t cure killed babies with more dead babies. We need peace.”
The son of a missing Israeli peace activist says that his mother would be mortified by the situation in Gaza, and that vengeance is not a strategy.
Last night more women, men and children were killed in Gaza.

Irish politicians using the rights-violating misery of refugee camps in other parts of Europe as baseline for justifying DP, is cynical + wrong.
The issue is not tents vs pre-fabs or hotel limbo- it is whether those seeking refuge are treated with dignity & justice. Full stop.
The lack of pay for student nurses and midwives in Ireland is a feminist issue (as well as a basic human/social rights one). In a profession that remains staffed by a majority of women, non-payment is another example of chronic under-valuing of vital, care-based labour.

The bleak videos from Lesvos, of islanders yelling racist abuse at wet and cold refuge-seeking families after 7 hours at sea, is an indictment on us all. The scenes represent Brussels as much as they do Greece- EU's externalised borders are fuelling the Right.

Yes, there is relief in watching the Trump-ship sink. But the waters of fascism, racism and patriarchy that kept him afloat remain.
The only bulwark against that is emancipatory social movement organising- that goes far deeper and broader than electoral politics ever can.
#COVID19
is clarifying the back-bone labour that keeps countries running- social care & medical personnel, cleaners, hauliers, growers & teachers. When this passes, any attempt to go back to a neo-liberal status quo of precarity & austerity needs to be strongly organised against.
