Non-competes have been abused by companies for far too long.
Treating employees as if they were exposed to some proprietary secret anytime they wanted to leave and go compete.
Abused nefariously to keep wages low and stifle competition.
Good riddance.
I agree with banning non-competes. These were used in the most scummy and illegal ways. Especially as you as a regular worker couldn’t afford to fight them. The best non-compete is EQUITY. You want to own someone? Then give them piece of company.

This post hit me in the gut.
I lost my dad when I was 25 in a car wreck.
Got the call early one morning at work he’d been in a wreck.
Picked my sister up to head to the accident and she got a call.
I remember her asking” what does it matter who is driving?”
And I knew
I post my wins, I post my losses, but sometimes I post my regrets. I have a few. I brought my dad (who is in his 80’s) to my cabin this weekend. We got talking about life and how much longer he thought he had. He said “I’ll probably be around 4-5 more years”. Hit me VERY hard.
