I dug into the results from Day 1 of RC Ottawa (478 players). 18 Zoo players had a collective 60% win percentage. Of the 4 Domain Zoo decks that went 6-2 or better, 3 were playing 4x Leyline of the Guildpact. The deck screenshots are still loading, so here are just the top 2:

list w/ -1 Troll, +1 Waker (his Patreon is 🔥). Troll+black shocks make fair plan B way more consistent and help w/ Grief pitch. Troll has better evasion than Oliphaunt and doesn't die to Fury. Gameplay video out on my YT soon!

My hot take is Challenges are notorious for everyone just netdecking, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Scam is >20% of the overall meta share. At large paper events, the Scam win rate doesn’t appear that oppressive but we can’t know full MTGO meta data since WotC doesn’t publish it

Witch’s Cottage is there to help put a big creature on top and set up for game winning Blast. It plays a much better fair game plan than traditional Blast lists. I think it’s based on an old AspiringSpike brew

Quite the epic battle with

on stream today. I’m on Living End and at one point I was at 31 life vs 1 life but he managed to string things along thanks to (3) One Rings to get the win with 4 cards in his library. G1 took 30 min even with us both playing fast 🤯

. Deck felt incredible and the ring was crazy, buys you time and is just one of the best possible card advantage spells. Lifegain from Solitude and Mending helps a lot too if you can't find a PEnding. 👍

Maybe not a hot take, but booster packs/boxes/chase cards are a way for WOTC to enable children and adults to gamble while sidestepping all of the legal regulations associated with such activities.

When I first saw this I thought for sure it was from an Unfinity set or was a custom card, but nope they really made a card that requires you to play out another game within a game. I think I understand why this is banned in every format 😂

and I have been testing playing only 1 triome in the Zoo manabase and we both have had success with it. He played a Scalding Tarn as the additional fetch while I play Misty Rainforest. There are pros/cons to whichever extra fetch you go with
I saw this 5c Zoo list in the last MTGO PTQ and liked it. Manabase makes sense and I’ve always wanted to try Questing Druid in this deck. 👍

I think there should have been some separation between the more competitive events like Sealed PTQ, Standard 75k, Modern Secret Lair, etc and more casual stuff like Commander, On-Demand, vendors, etc. Could easily see putting comp events on relatively unused floor below main hall

4-1 with Preordain/Bowmaster Zoo. Lost G3 of trophy match after misplay because I thought Eidolon was legendary. Preordain is very good to dig for lethal burn, premium interaction, and more threats.

I’m guessing that’s because your audience leans competitive. That niche might not be as large as casual, but the audience is very committed. I think there is room for different kinds of content, but it can be tricky figuring out how to do it without alienating your core audience
