It's been a surprisingly good few weeks. I delivered an audio script to Big Finish & signed an audio script contract with the BBC, then was told something incredible about a project I can't yet talk about, then got offered a contract by a publisher I can't yet talk about. Great!

In the mist of the present chaos and uncertainty, I am currently in A&E after an acute asthma attack. Great paramedics, great nurses, great doctor. No wait in the ambulance or a corridor. Currently on oxygen, nebulisers and steroids. The NHS is brilliant and must be preserved.

Well that's a thing! I wrote the middle piece for this BLAKE'S 7 audio late last year, and great fun it was too. Being sandwiched between James Goss and Gary Russell (ooh Matron!) is an added privilege and joy. I hope that listening to it is as much fun as writing it was.

I discovered when I was researching in the BBC archives a while back that there is an episode of 'The Magic Roundabout' that the BBC never showed because it had Dougal climbing into an abandoned fridge and getting trapped.
In the 1970s, fridges were finally becoming commonplace in British homes. But they, like everything else (at least, according to public information films), were out to KILL.

The point of this scene is to show that the series is still alive and moving on constantly from one actor to another. From Hartnell, to Smith, to Gatwa, it's forever growing and changing! The Matt Smith version still exists, but I'm so happy to see Ncuti here now too!

I was once sent an email by the editor of an anthology for which I had already had a story accepted. Accidentally attached to the email was one from someone at the publishers saying, "This story is terrible. Bury it in the middle of the anthology and hope nobody notices it."

The best thing that ever happened to me, writer-wise, is someone I knew in the USA telling me that the way I portrayed the relationship between Steven and Marlowe gave him the courage to come out to his parents. If I've done one good thing in my life...
Steven Taylor in Empire of Glass is so funny to me, because he meets three most famous historical figures. Galileo he becomes drinking buddies with, Christopher Marlowe becomes his boyfriend and he shakes William Shakespeare hand without knowing who he is.

Maybe the crisis triggered a regeneration we never knew about in which he regenerated back into himself (as Tennant's Doctor once did) and his clothes changed with him (as they have done on several previous occasions). I should write a book about that...
Trapped in the TARDIS and dying for lack of oxygen, the Third Doctor prioritizes getting changed above helping himself out of the TARDIS and that feels simultaneously completely out of and very much in character

I've disagreed with editors many times, mostly over small things. In the end traditional publishing is a team game, and the publishers are paying. Unless I have a really good argument against accepting their comments I find a way of managing. I had an entire chapter cut out once.

I wrote an (unpublished) fan fiction story where the TARDIS lands in 'The Village', and, while the Doctor thinks he's back in the Land of Fiction, Number 6 believes it's a plot to make him think he's going insane...
I've said it before, but... you just have the TARDIS appear on the holodeck. The Enterprise crew recognise it from Doctor Who. They think the Doctor's a hologram that's worked out how to escape. The Doctor thinks he's in the Land of Fiction. You never establish who's correct.

I interviewed him on stage at a convention many years ago. He was bitter about the (undeniable) fact that he used to deliver 14,000 viewers on a Saturday night but now he had no traction with young script editors. I told him that I wouldn't have been a writer if not for him.

After a couple of weeks following my bad fall where my brain decided to give me a break on the anxiety dreams while I recuperated, apparently we're back to normal. Last night I dreamed I'd joined a band as their keyboard player without being able to play keyboards.

I bought three Jack Gerson books from EBay today, having been reminded by the showing of his incredible THE OMEGA FACTOR series on Forces TV what a fantastic writer he was. I'm a happy bunny.
