@D_Hollingsworth This chair is one of the reasons I really don’t like this serial! I mean… what the actual…???!!!

@HappinessPatrol @DavidSeery8 @flynn_henr25689 I was very fortunate. WHSmiths Southport and Liverpool supplied many a tape, occasionally Woolworths… but the sublime and long since deceased Market Records in Southport furnished me with many a bargain second hand Who tape! My late, formidable mother secured heavy discounts!

@flynn_henr25689 @HappinessPatrol @DavidSeery8 I did a lot of browsing in Boots but not much buying. The only Doctor Who items I remember purchasing from there were the VHS of Earthshock, and the cassette soundtrack of Power of the Daleks.

@HappinessPatrol @IanOTimelord Indeed! And Part Two is much stronger! More coherent and more competently directed!

@BobbyDazz12 @DavidSeery8 Peter Moffat’s interview on the DVD was my source. I dare say Dicks also waded in, and quite rightly!

@HappinessPatrol @IanOTimelord The first part reminds me of those generally awful improvisation exercises we used to have to do in my youth drama group. No logic, no rhyme or reason, and if all else fails, fall on the floor and pretend to be dead. How the show wasn’t derailed here I’ll never know 😮‍💨

@BobbyDazz12 @DavidSeery8 Actually, it was Peter Moffat who overruled Bidmead on State of Decay. He demanded to direct the script he had originally been assigned, not Bidmead’s rewrite 😂

@BobbyDazz12 @DavidSeery8 I don’t particularly enjoy the Season 18 vibe either. That’s why this story stands out for me because it actually has atmosphere instead of sterility.

@HappinessPatrol @DavidSeery8 But also gloriously life affirming! I remember chatting to a boy a year or so younger than me in the queue in Hammicks bookshop in 1995. He was buying this on VHS, and I was buying the NA Set Piece. Actually chatting to another fan in the Wilderness Years was rare for me!

@PaulCDunnEsq It’s also an awfully realised set! No atmosphere whatever. But I still enjoy watching it 🙂
