2/ Customs couldn’t decide if lemon and lime trees counted as plants or fruit. So that the consignment could be released the fruit was picked from the trees and thrown away, so the trees could be classed as plants. You couldn’t make it up…

@RMCunliffe The elephant that is always in the room is Brexit, which massively increased the costs of staffing and supplying restaurants and pubs, and the number of people coming to London from the U.K. for work experience in the hospitality industry has fallen. This all has an effect.

@StevenEdginton Free? In 1982 I almost got arrested for walking through a park with my boyfriend. I was 21. He was 18. We were outlaws. We, and especially I, as the older of the two, risked imprisonment. The rest of the country thought that was all quite an acceptable curtailment of freedom.
