That "we" (and the smugness behind it) is exactly what people are talking about when mentioning unearned privilege.
Of course you don't want to hear about privilege...because you did none of the things you're taking credit for.

I have to hold my 3 y.o. son's rocks until we get home.
And because I'm big on pockets (8 on my jacket, 5 on my pants, and I'm carrying a backpack for the 3y.o.) it takes time to find them again.
There are also half a dozen rocks and sticks sitting in the car trunk.

Reminds me of my first trip on the Shanghai maglev in 2005. 0-100 km/h in 3 seconds, top speed of 435 km/h reached in 2 minutes, and all of this info on the cabin display, and I overhear this old British guy saying "well it's not that fast, really."
The public side of the Ontario Science Centre is a fraction of what they offer.
I did my first DNA Polymerase Chain Reaction analysis in the Ontario Science Centre labs in 1998 (in OAC Biology class).
I applied to study forensic biology at university because of that experience.

Existing transit riders do not all care about speed.
Existing transit riders (and non-Transit riders for that matter) care more about Availability + Reliability of the service, because that it was what makes it useful for them. Speed, convenience and comfort play second fiddle.
Yet, the sentiment of exclusion still runs rampant among planning circles in North America - disguised in the language of “equity” and “inclusion.”
I’m constantly told by advocates & policymakers that “transit riders don’t care about speed” and “local trips are the priority” 6/
Mississauga has started to introduce bollards with their new enhanced bus shelters and it may be time to make bollards a standard around bus shelters. I've already asked the city to review bus shelter locations that are at high risk, and where bollard retrofits are likely needed.
Ongoing madness & inaction in KW "Police say a driver lost control, left the roadway, and struck an occupied bus shelter. The 4 pedestrians from the bus shelter, a 36yo woman & 3 children all under 6, were taken to a local hospital w serious but injuries."

Metrolinx has posted a tender to build the direct underground link between Dundas West subway station & Bloor GO/UP station. We'll finally be able to walk east & GO/UP.

This evening at Planning & Development Committee staff will recommend rejecting a proposed development on the southeast parking lot at Port Credit GO/LRT station, which will be between the LRT and GO platforms, because the buildings have too many stories & not enough parking. 1/2

Emily Lerch being found in York Region is why I got an Amber Alert in Toronto even though I don't live close to Stratford, and why I'm happy that I got the alert.
Ontario is big but it is possible to drive from many places to many places very quickly...widespread alerts help.
Stratford Police with the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police and York Regional Police have located missing 11 year old Emily Lerch safe, investigation is continuing. Thanks to all agencies for their support and assistance including SPS Uniform, CID and Comms.

We were from opposite sides of the world. Different countries, races, religions, cultures, plans.
Neither of us was 'right' for each other by any criteria.
We approached it like adults. It wasn't easy to navigate our differences but we persisted. 2 beautiful kids now. Worth it.

There must be at least sixty GO stations in the Greater Toronto Area with surface parking lots that could welcome thousands of units of housing (including a significant share of actually affordable housing).
We're just 30 years behind on the frequent transit that'd make it work.

Yikes. I've been a customer of PC Financial's no fee services (by CIBC) since 1997 and stayed with them when CIBC dissolved the relationship with PC and the service became Simplii. There is no way you should be paying to use your own money.
Video of the explosion & electrical fire on Line 2 just outside Bloor-Yonge Station.
If anything this should be a reminder of the TTC capital backlog which is easily enough to cover the cost of a new subway line. Fire suppression & ventilation upgrades are part of that backlog.

I mean yes, but also almost all of the LRT lines and their stations were built between 1993 & 1998.
The differences between the two LRT systems and their stations, despite being built around the same time (but by two different companies, STAR and PUTRA), is even more wild. 1/2

Brantford's psuh for a GO train extension is interesting. Once again one wonders if it just makes sense to have GO Transit serve all of southern Ontario...especially when you look at the size & availability of "white belt" land outside the Greenbelt.

Toderian makes an excellent point here. There's quite a difference between banning cars/closing streets and embracing activities/opening streets.
So I look forward to seeing how this insight will be applied to his upcoming work in Mississauga...and what the city ends up doing.

Current tax is 14.7 c/L...5.7 cents would save me $2.57 per fill up. Meanwhile Canadian Tire will be giving me 10c/L in electronic Canadian Tire "money" until June 19 (which is eCT$4.50). At least try to do better than Canadian Tire. It's not hard to do better than Canadian Tire.

Fit an electric motor and the towing capacity gets even better.

Im expecting Toronto will figure out a real solution for the King Street pilot but this decline should never have been allowed to happen. The streetcar operator getting stuck in an intersection & getting ticketed is both frustrating & a symptom of failure.

Toronto already had a development plan (homes and a K-8 school) for the north end Science Centre Parking lots while keeping the Ontario Science Centre open.
If you see anyone saying the redevelopment of the Science Centre will provide housing, please know that Toronto already worked out a plan to develop the Science Centre's (Toronto-owned) parking lots for housing & a school.

At the end of the day aren't we all stewards rather than owners? History has established that:
1. Whatever you think you own, you don't own it forever
2. You can't take it with you
3. Even if you try someone (grave robbers/archaeologists) or something (nature) will take it back.

Yes. All the ones I go to in Mississauga have them but they only open when the store is busy.
The one at Southdown Road in Mississauga is known for adding pieces of sausage on top of your poutine and/or hot dog.
Once again I say, bike share is transit. Make Bike Share TO part of the TTC so more TTC riders use bike share to extend their trips. This will attract more riders to both services.
Revenue from riders+potential savings for TTC is more stable than a subsidy from parking revenue.1
The TPA VP notes that even under new fare structure the bike-share system would still operate at a loss, and be subsidised by parking revenues. Somewhere an urbanist is smiling
Today I went to look at the canopy for the Derry station on the Hurontario LRT line.
I also noted that track work must be more than 95% complete between Derry Rd & Trailwood Dr, with a few incomplete sections here and there.
LRT construction on-street can be tremendously fast.
"Canadian transit isn’t cuter, sexier, or more “demand responsive” than transit in the US. There is simply more of it, so more people ride, so transit is more deeply imbedded in the culture and politics."

The access road that would connect to Dundas would bring people out right next to the bus stop.
Also, the comment warning about students potentially living there is interesting, in light of so many articles showing seniors and young people living in neighbourhoods is...good.
"Nearly eight times the number of people use West Harbour GO Station than five years ago, Metrolinx says.
Currently, an average of 886 people a day board and disembark trains at the North End terminal, compared with just 93 in 2019."
Learned today that the TTC buses that run on Dundas between Kipling & 427 collectively carried around 40,000 people/day. Add the MiWay buses on the eleven or so routes that serve Kipling, plus future GO bus routes, and I'd say the street deserves some red
