@emmafildes New build flats are often nothing more than the broken first step on track 2 of the housing market.

@Blano860163 @BeadleBen I was a Landlord. I wouldn’t expect sympathy for milking the housing crisis. Rented under market value to a single mum - I’m not going to pretend that wasn’t still exploitative given the crushing, regulation-driven housing shortage since Sir 39 House Tony came to power.

@DemolitionsLdn @Ed_Miliband Ridiculous to think landlords wouldn’t pass costs on. Also seen (only a few to be fair) posts with renters fuming about expensive utility bills after LL fitted a heat pump. So pay thousands, & risk financially ruining your tenant (even more than you are already?). Nope.

@JillBelch @UKLabour We need to continue to give highest priority to blocking quality new housing in middle class suburbs where MPs live (& have investment properties) to protect house prices there Meanly proportioned new houses on floodplains at the arse-end of town by the motorway are the way to go

@theolodian The answer that is always ignored (and oft-denied) is… improve the tech, make it quieter. If the noise limit was lower & included absolutely crucial tonality measure; manufacturers would make - & installers would fit - quieter models by default. No one would need PP.

@theolodian I agree with 2 units - tentatively because it can increase noise levels by material amounts. But not cooling. It is not in the interests or rollout & net zero to allow it at this juncture. Would in my view be gift to NZW & ruin rollout prospects.

@NatCareLiving @theolodian Indeed. Clear, supportive police’s that are calibrated to ensure proper safeguards & avoid risks that could topple rollout.

@BeadleBen Urgent need to shrink the PRS from its current, bloated, regulation-supported size, & to expand housing stock & owner occupation to free market levels so folk can make their own decisions about their homes rather than having to ask their Rigsby.

@Ed_Miliband Labour made a whole generation renters - they created generation rent. How about we build decent homes for people to buy to help them out of what is a regulated housing market - regulated for the last 25 years to keep them renting.

@Ed_Miliband @genrentuk Mate it’s not energy that’s the problem. From 1997-2010 house prices tripled & they’ve gone up more since. Because so many people are renters (& landlords don’t want to spend) they have zero interest in capital outlay on green tech. Build some decent homes to buy.

@_heatgeek With 1/6 UK heat pump owners unhappy with noise, & noise regulations that don’t take ASHP tonality - a fundamental nuisance factor - into account, when are we going to see policy & regs that drive improvement on noise rather than facilitate the worrying status quo?

@HPFederation @AarrrBee @EvanHD @Telegraph The “aren’t all skeptics fools” narrative twinned with the “myths”.. some of which aren’t myths (even Jan admits this), has been one of the most polarising, off-putting, unsuccessful comms strategies. Straight out of the NZW playbook & a has been a gift to them.

@g__j Indeed. Heat pump rollout needs critical friends, good faith debate & challenge. The “myth” approach (an ill-judged reaction to NZW attacks) has been allowed to grow & polarise, & has shut down scope for critical friends & legit challenge. Part of why we see those SMF’s findings.
