Good. Time to stop posturing and create the environment where housing supply can be increased.

Ministers now need to stop dragging their feet on this issue, accept the committee’s conclusions and end its unjust policy

We sympathise with renters’ pressures but this could not be further from reality & unfounded accusations cannot go unchallenged.

Absolutely at one with

on this. There are many things that could be done to help homeless people. It was done during Covid. It is simply a political choice. It isn’t a lifestyle choice
To focus the issue on banning tents & fining charities who supply them is appalling.
Coverage in the Telegraph of the

@NRLAssociation
And once again, it matters not the type of

I am sympathetic to the plight of

It's time to stop the evictions.
Another day, another call for a rent freeze from the man who’s in charge of housing numbers in London. So rather than deflect & choke off supply further, why not do something already in your control like increase supply and investor confidence which will bring rents down?
Our private rental market can’t continue like this—it’s not sustainable for Londoners who are struggling with other rising costs too.
The Govt must allow me to freeze rents in the capital.
This is very obviously the wrong move. I would have thought that investment in social, affordable and private rented homes might be a better alternative to taking people’s tents away.

I’ll be on

Worth pointing out that
#landlords
are taking home their lowest margins since 2006 - there are no winners.
Rather than focus on banning bidding wars, Labour should increase rental supply which will have the same impact and reduce rents.
Better to focus on the cause not symptom
Rental bidding wars pit tenant against tenant with landlords the only winner.
The Tory Renters (Reform) Bill is silent on the issue.
A Labour government will act to prohibit bidding wars just as other countries like New Zealand have already done.

London’s renters need a rent freeze—now.

As I have said many times,
#landlords
do not evict

willy-nilly. Many will use section 21 and have a legitimate reason to ask a tenant to leave.
Four in 10 households seeking council help say it is because
Better energy efficient homes are a good thing - but to announce something, say nothing for two years and then scrap it has caused needless uncertainty to renters and landlords.
I think it’s more likely that flogging off social homes and not replacing them is the driver of a lack of supply and higher rents.
But let’s not let facts get in the way of ideology that I’m reading from a paper in front of me.

I am delighted to see that Minister Jacob Young has written to party members on his plans to adopt many amendments championed by NRLA.
This isn't 'caving in to landlords' as some suggest. It is the necessary compromise that all sides need to make to ensure the biggest reforms
And this sort of attitude is where the problem lie. Landlords are selling because of punitive taxation. Who ultimately suffers? It’s renters through decimated supply and higher rents.
Be careful what you wish for. We need homes of all tenure, not fewer.
The

So let me get this right. This Bill will:
✅ abolish fixed term tenancies
✅ abolish section 21 repossessions
✅ only allows landlords to seek possession for a legitimate reason
✅ introduce an Ombudman so renters have redress against their landlord
✅ bring in a property
