These proposals are not perfect. But an immediate £250 cap on ground rents and a phase-out is a compromise leaseholders should be able to live with. However, we will hold back full judgement until the formal announcement is made and the details are published.

.@TiceRichard @reformparty_uk have been allies of leaseholders for a number of years now. When the Tory government were going to bankrupt leaseholders over dangerous cladding, Mr Tice called a press conference to put forward a package of reforms that helped force a u-turn.

Leaseholders up and down the land are in abusive relationships with freeholders who use coercive control tactics, including gaslighting and the plundering of finances. Service charge strikes exist because leaseholders are captive. They cannot hire and fire rip-off providers.
In two housing blocks in east London, residents are taking matters into their own hands by refusing to pay the charge at all.

We look forward to seeing this but leaseholders are innocent and should not be expected to pay for state failure and industry malfeasance. This government cannot repeat or slightly tweak the Tory approach, which was not working.
Deputy PM @AngelaRayner tells @GMB that it is unacceptable that so many buildings identified to have unsafe cladding haven't had remediation work started. That is why she has announced she will bring forward a remediation acceleration plan this autumn.
