In my undergrad, I read the original paper by Hopfield & wrote a code to reproduce some results in my advanced stat physics course. It was a mind-blowing experience and one of the inspirational papers (apart from May 1976 on chaos) to choose theoretical biology for my research.

We can ask an inverse question. Will IITs, IISc etc have mechanisms to admit students who are good in science, but don't score in well KVPY/JEE? Since the answer is a very clear NO, this trend will continue.
Like college, a balanced education in school is absolutely essential. Which is why children dropping out of school at Class 8 or 9 to start preparing for IIT JEE is destroying the fundamental fabric of education in this country.

Agree with the sentiment below. When any student of my lab has gotten PMRF, although I am happy for the student who got the fellowship, I feel uncomfortable announcing that publicly in the lab for this reason.
PMRF is the most discriminatory fellowship. Imagine two students working in same lab, equal number of hours, and giving similar research output. Only difference is their salary. One is getting almost twice of the other.

Stop glorifying this stray dog feeding.
Just an hour ago, I was walking with my little kids when two stray dogs started running towards us, barking aggressively. It was scary; it took some efforts to scare them away. Kids said that's why they don't want to go on walks. +
This Nagpur man feeds 35kg chicken/mutton biryani to nearly 150 dogs daily for the past 11 years. He goes around the city from 5 pm and gets back at nearly midnight.
Kudos to this man for his selfless service!

Very happy to share our lab birthday with Sci-Hub - which also began exactly 10 years ago at IISc :)
Of course, I am not competing in terms of impact :)
Today is Sci-Hub anniversary the project is 10 years old!
I'm going to publish 2,337,229 new articles to celebrate the date. They will be available on the website in a few hours (how about the lawsuit in India you may ask: our lawyers say that restriction is expired already)

India has a different way to limit the number of post-doc years:
Faculty jobs come with an age limit of 35 years.
This means good postdocs who have crossed 35 yrs (e.g. including late starting of PhDs) are better off searching for jobs abroad only!
➡️Limiting the amount of time a postdoctoral scholar can be supported by NIH funds to five years to speed transition into research careers.
