Living by the tidal Thames, I can’t describe to you the joy I get whenever I see someone stupid enough to park on a slipway and leave their car for more than five minutes. The more expensive the car, the bigger the joy. 😌
The funny thing is, The White Cross (looks like this camera angle is from the top of the pub wall for their outdoor seating) have a sign on the wall literally to the right of this camera view, where the pub staff update it daily with the times of the tide.
Have muted replies now as people think it’s ok to be a cunt when I’m just taking joy in nature taking over a BOAT slipway. But oh no, someone’s poor person’s non-submersible CAR that shouldn’t be there! Unless it’s a model of car boat I wasn’t aware of. 😴
@Lloydy3217
Just done it myself and raised over £1000 for
@macmillancancer
’s ‘Brave the Shave’ and donated my hair to
@LPTrustUK
. 💇🏻♀️ Your daughter is very brave to want to cut her hair, especially with winter approaching! 💛 Twitter love to all the family from a stranger. x
There really are guys on this hellscape that must sit here & wait for RTs like mine, so they can ‘well, actually’ a random RT to feel good about themselves. 😂 Get in touch if you’re the car owner cos I can put you in touch with all these guys that clearly want to friend you. :)
Stand in solidarity for Joanne, railway fam and friends. For every person that says life for women in rail is easy now, there's still so many cases like this that prove it isn't. This really hurts. 😥
#RailwayFamily
This ones going to be a long one kids, so sit down and grab a brew and read. Unfortuntley its a sad tale, let's give it a happy ending for the future generations.
Please read the attached statement because it's really, really important.
Hello 👋🏻 to new followers (not sure why you’d want to, but ok!)
I used to talk about trains/working in the industry, but as a result of being in my 95th day of shielding, I haven’t seen a train in all that time (despite currently residing next to the Maidenhead-Marlow line).
The reply guys keeping me fully occupied in A&E whilst waiting for an x-ray - love yous 😘, but I love our wonderful NHS even more that I wouldn’t risk parking my car on a BOAT slipway for the leptospirosis, and I wouldn’t want to push everyone’s insurance premiums up either.
If you and your mates could keep off the railway so that I don’t end up with a hat trick, that’d be great.
No, I don’t get to retire on a full pension or whatever it is in that weird film. And making emergency calls isn’t much fun whilst shaking, thanks.
#MetLineChronicles
I’ve always loved the fog in the darkness of winter. I don’t know why.
Almost ten years ago, I shot this photo of the freezing fog at Northfields Station while I was commuting for an early shift.
I’ve never been quite able to recreate/reshoot it on film.
I wish we’d designed this on S stock. There is nothing I detest more than the seating behind the driving cab, someone shouting into their phone, or the way people look at you like you’re insane or inconveniencing them (or their luggage) when you open the door.
@QuinlanQuinlan
Someone putting their property on property that doesn’t belong to them, which is also signed as not being a place to put property that isn’t a boat. Alright. Cool beans. I’m in the wrong, &c., &c.
Finally got around to seeing myself at Hounslow West as part of a poster campaign celebrating Asian staff (identical posters also in Cardinal Place “banana subway” at Victoria Station).
Mixed feelings still about this all still, but many thanks to
@anngav
for making it happen.
So today I got stuck underground for over 3 hours (and stuck on a train for over 5, lololol). Top banter. Definitely a Top 10
#MemeRailway
Moment of Excellence™️.
#MetLineChronicles
Hey, gang. 👋🏻 I recently got a roll of film developed (thanks again,
@TakeItEasyLab
!) that had been sat in a camera a while. No idea what was on it, but it turns out there are some
#tubegeek
gems from 2017, during the last days of the D stock. Gather round for this thread…
This (probably along with other people’s bodily fluids 😂) is what I’ll be seeing from the front of a train for the next few hours… so HNY and all that shiz in advance.
Let’s be real. 2023 is probably going to be shit, but at least we have each other, right?…
Right?!
The Hendy stans are gonna be doing a lot of heavy lifting over the next few weeks, that's for sure. How this whole thing has been allowed to happen should be making any sensible, safety-oriented human being in the rail industry _angry_
If it isn’t MEN at work complaining that “you look too colourful”, it’s a man at work complaining I shouldn’t be wearing the hat on the left “cos it’s for 12 year olds”. So today I’m wearing the one on the right. Both offer the same protection of keeping the sun off my face 🤷🏻♀️
Shooting 100 speed slide film underground, through a camera that weighs a significant amount of my body weight, like an absolute mentalist. 🙃

Following my 2nd person-under-train incident in October, I’m relieved to say that as of next week going forwards, I’ll be back at work on some light duties, with the view to return to driving at some point next month (subject to occ. health review & re-training).
What a journey.
Just got home after a lovely little shift. 😌 Picked up a wild
@BeingJarley
and
@cat_cat_
today who were out doing trade union rep tingz. Cos all cool people are in a union, obvs. 💪🏻 They brought smiles, bantz, and most importantly, covfefe. ☕️

Even if it wasn't tidal, my risk assessment of parking next to a waterway would be not to leave the car for more than a few mins? The randoms criticising me for a moment of schadenfreude seem to be forgetting basic common sense. 🤷♀️ The pub even has a sign with the tide times!
Anyhow. Cc’ing:
@putneyhtc
before I forget. Which I’m sure the schadenfreude-denying reply guys have never heard of, based on their various responses on here on a random RT from me that the algorithm pushed their way. 😴
Happy birthday to British typographer & graphic designer Margaret Calvert 🎈🎂
Calvert’s work in transforming the UK’s road signage system, to the wayfinding at railway stations & airports, has been central in shaping much of our national visual identity.
A very intense (and sweaty) few days down in Neasden Depot this week, getting my hands filthy on trains (forgot gloves on first day 😬🥲) for stock refresher. Very happy, as I really enjoy 1-to-1 training as I’m afforded the opportunity to do as many things as I want practically.
Went back to East London to see me Ma (who I’ve not seen in probably over a year). This meant I got to temporarily open my own branch of the London Transport Museum and
#tubegeek
memorabilia (if you wanna call it that). So here’s a thread of some of my teenage loot:
Despite the bad luck I’ve had at work recently, this scene at Slough today warmed my heart. On such a gloomy day, this excited kid got a little peep of the horn from the driver as the train was coming to a stop. 💕
I haven’t reversed a train off of Amersham Platform 2 for what feels like a million years, to the point I wasn’t even sure if the lightbox still worked, so naturally I nearly wet myself with excitement when this happened earlier this evening. 🤪
#MetLineChronicles
Let’s just make one thing clear: I still love trains though.
I just don’t like a lot of the people management processes, the rotten parts of ‘messroom’ culture, some of discourse from both management and unions. Oh - and the idea that ‘seniority’ equates to competence.
This is kind of why I took part in a recent poster campaign across the TfL network, which some of you may have seen on your travels. Identity is a weird and funny thing at the moment.
A bit late to the party (& subject to last-minute ratification by my college’s sub-board), but was told today my dissertation scored 65/100 (even with questionable Japanese meme translations on my part), & that I will have a degree! BA Linguistics with Japanese (Hons). 😭
Yeah. I get that you can fly to Edinburgh and that sometimes it’s a lot cheaper, &c., &c. But it really is a really lovely train journey to Scotland and I think everyone should do it at least once.
When you’re running late for a brunch meeting and part of a train that has cost millions of pounds, never to see operations service, is holding up the road and your bus. 🔥
Like the rest of the internet, I too will post my own mediocre, low-quality smartphone picture of the moon rising this week. 🌚🌙 (As seen in
#Brentford
)
Yesterday I was reminded that two years ago I had a very nice surprise where I got to stay in a very nice hotel with a view from the room that looked out to the trains (there was also dinner and the cocktail bar with the exact same view, but a bit higher up). 🥰
A have a lot of pictures of trains across various hard drives. 🙃 Like this picture of Piccadilly line trains stabled at the Boston end of Northfields Depot during the strike on 6 Aug’15; the stabling arrangements are somewhat aesthetically pleasing to me.
😞 It’s sad when 6yo boy & girl point out, “So my mum can’t have a train set then?” This was the most depressing part of my visit to the primary school.
@hornby
sort it out.
@LetToysBeToys
And with a smile, on his very last shift on the job at Victoria, Graham helps his last few passengers on their way with directions. ✨
Next stop: Retirement! 🚇

But yes. I still like trains. I still love driving the trains (when permitted). I still love the romance of travelling by train. And I love seeing the trains all over the world (with a soft spot for Japanese trains). I mean, my love for them is how I came to be in the industry.
The glorious detritus of the middle class children in burgundy uniforms that piled on at Rickmansworth at 15:45. Also didn’t enjoy the problems they then caused at the PTI which meant having to slam the brakes on whilst attempting to depart.
Whilst I have your attention: I'll be publishing my first zine project this Dec. It's on a cheerful subject (not), searching for remains of social distancing... A5 full-colour print, 28 pages (TBC). £5 each; 10% of sales going to
@MindCharity
. Pre-order available end of Oct.
And for those people moaning about how the railway should be automated: This particular part of the railway *is* automated and it fucking died and needed me there in order for the train to move anywhere in the 3+ hours I was stuck down there. CHEERS, AUTOMATION. 👍🏻
Legit looking forward to going back to being the most annoying small person in the depot and challenging all the fragile masculinity out there. ✨ Bite me. 😂

What a journey.
175 years of

Directed her to the

website and asked her to show me what I was contravening, lol 🤷🏻♀️:
I want to take the opportunity to say that whilst there are many lovely digital pictures of the shiny and new
@Crossrail
stations from this weekend; I would love analogue photographers to know that the calm aesthetic from these new stations transposes beautifully onto film stock.
Stabbings, signal failures, & shenanigans; it ends with a misty sunrise on this Sunday morning to mark an end to this run of night shifts.
✅ 7 of 7.
Back to work tomorrow for 3 days (yes, nights finish on a ‘rest day’, so it’s 8 of 11 shifts in my head).
#MetLineChronicles
That was some damn fine choo-chooing, if I say so myself. ✨ Can confirm that after nearly 9 months of not having driven train; no, you don’t forget how to drive a train.
It’s like a needle on a record - you just drop in, find the groove, as if you had never left.
Someone brought in a massive chocolate cake today at work and I cut myself a slice the size of my face and I have ZERO REGRETS. 🍰
Today has been a Good Day.
#MetLineChronicles
Got some scans back from
@AnalogueWLand
this morning and… I meant what I said. The
@Crossrail
aesthetic on expired Fujifilm Superia just slaps different. One of my fave frames from the roll taken at Tottenham Court Road deffo screams 2001: Space Odyssey. 😍

That said, as a result of having to put up w/over 13yrs of misogynistic crap, ageism, racism, bullying, harassment, & a load of other crap in the industry (& its transport museum counterpart), I don’t/won’t talk about it much now.
Like most institutions, it’s rotten to the core.
Slightly overwhelmed by the responses to yesterday’s ramblings, but I think I need a quiet reset now as I fried my circuits thinking about it all, so this scamp is taking a Twitter break. I’ll get back to individual DMs in due course. Take care. x
First day back from annual leave. On my way into work to start a run of seven night shifts. Got a lift to Acton Town and already suffering from rage/depression from this commute, which I’m sure will carry into 2024. 😂
#MemeRailway
Just because it’s a heritage railway doesn’t mean it cannot be adapted to share for future generations & a wider community. *It is* possible to include accessibility as part of an incredible restoration project. Fantastic commitment & I would be keen to see it when it’s finished.
@transportsparks
@version3point1
2... We also have (with more details of the lift and facilities):
which is currently under overhaul after 25 years in Bluebell service.
The Pullman Car conversion is nearly complete as per these photos. Access is via electric lifts at the double doors.
A year ago today, I left the job I loved. 😔 I don’t regret it, but I do miss the routine of it, and I miss all my former trainees, colleagues and friends on the
#metline
dearly and I hope that they are well. x
The amazing
@Ldn_Ambulance
(crew R323), and the kindness of a friend and two strangers saved my life last night. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. 💛

*someone deliberately destroying their own property by parking in an area that's designated for boats and clearly marked as being next to a tidal waterway, with times of the next flood in case you don't know how to check yourself...
I guess the clue is in your username. 🤷♀️
