I am begging FFXIV players to play another FF game because FF7, arguably the most popular FF, spends the entirety of its first part in a city run by pseudonuclear power with slums, trains and a modern sewer system.
Admittedly, cool as it looks, I'm a bit dubious about a place like Solution Nine being added to the (ostensibly, allegedly) high fantasy universe of xiv
However, my doubts ARE softened by the prospect of like. My god. They're going to make Estinien go there.....

Witchdrop in Coerthas Central Highlands is a gorge where heretics used to be cast into according to Ishgard law. If deemed innocent in the eyes of Halone, their death was quick. However, the accused would reportedly want to transform into a dragon to survive.

This is actually historically accurate as Kugane is explicitly a parallel to Dejima, where the head honcho of the Dutch East Indian Company would have been the most powerful person - specifically eclipsing the local magistrate who was kinda there on foreigner watch.
kugane stands out against the other cities because we never actually see a “ruler” type character that represents it like we have with the alliance members, so by process of elimination the closest thing we have to a city-state representative is hancock LMFAO

my personal opinion is that aether currents are an excuse to really take in the world around you that the devs worked so hard on. slow down and look at stuff while you're popping your compass and zooming through the landscape. smell the roses etc etc etc.

A lot of native Balmungites are not impressed by horny. They've seen it all. A lot of them have unbroken subscriptions from 2.0, 1.0 in some instances. Housing in Balmung is super competitive to the point that APARTMENTS are full. This is a thriving server.

The current state of Ul'dah /sh and Balmung QS is not due to the Balmung oldguard - it is comprised of Wanderers and now Travellers who look for other horny people to get off with. Mateus suffers from something similar, but it's less prevalent

Note I say roleplaying, FCs were used to facilitate plots and storylines in some seriously long campaign within the scope of the game. Some spilloff occured in places like Jenova when it came to housing. Yes there was ERP, but there were protocols and etiquette.

The first problem came with world travel. Balmung had no shortage of all kinds of RP, ERP included so the Quicksand and Pearl Lane became flooded with people thinking that Balmungites would jump at anyone who walked in with their genitals out (it was not true)

In Balmung, you wouldn't really be ostracised for RPing in /say chat, and as long as you followed /y and /sh etiquette, it normally wasn't an issue. You had informal gatherings in places like Central Thanalan where Bloodsands style combat RP was codified and made popular.

Mateus is largely more a roleplaying server than Balmung is currently, I say with a sigh because I never like saying that as a Balmungite. But you can find more gen RP in Mateus more easily than in Balmung.

When I started playing the game in earnest, I actually started in Behemoth cause Balmung was full but my friends were always hovering over me. Hyperion has been by far, more explicit, and more uncomfortable to deal with with regards to RP than Balmung ever was.
