This attack shares its name with the fish Navigator's Dagger, and its trigger is almost certainly a reference to the big fish version, Navigator's brand. Their log entries describe how Llymlaen is known for throwing knives, and once threw a blade at Oschon for seeing her naked.

Navigator's Brand is required to complete "The Beast of Brewer's Beacon", the quest the game uses to introduce players to big fishing, so it's many peoples' first big fish, making this a very special easter egg indeed!

This attack can only trigger if the boss is in combat and not casting at the time! Additionally, from our testing, it seems like it can only occur once per fight. Comparing it to the JP video, it seems to deal HP %-based damage.

Update I've been told by multiple people that they got this to trigger more than once per fight, so it looks like it's either that she's casting or queuing up attacks so often that there aren't many opportunities to trigger this, or there's a hidden cooldown on it!

tempest is probably the best zone in ffxiv because not only is it just beautiful and mournful in equal parts, it also has a semi-hidden tunnel, not marked on the map, that is useful almost exclusively to fishers and no one else.

[DUTY COMPLETE] finished both Triceratops and Victor yesterday, which makes me the proud owner of the majority of the rarest mounts in FFXIV (don't think about Astrope don't think ab)

The Soul of the Martyr can be found rarely in the skies around the Landlord Colony, flying near the ruined homes of those that slew Ratatoskr 1000 years ago.
Lore aside, it is especially notable for having the longest observed maximum bite time of any fish in the entire game!

It actually lines up with exactly one piece of Lalafell lore, which has been faintly incongruous with the rest for a long time, and is, (you guessed it!) fish lore!
Anyway, we probably won't get explanations for this ever, so I'm off to go think about it for too long.

Even if this huge fish really is the thousand-year-old secondary vessel of the great wyrm, without her eyes, she can't do much aside from fly free in the Churning Mists above Sohm Al.
Surely any adventurer that catches this fish would kindly release it just in case... right?

It's actually complicated, though it comes up fairly rarely so most players might have forgotten. There are also some forum posts and interviews from Koji clarifying: depending on the region/time period, there is a stigma in Eorzea around interracial relationships.
just found a thread wherein someone earnestly said that in canon, it would be super weird for a lalafell to date a non-lalafell.

It's surprising that they're so far east given what we know about the Lalafell. Why did they go to Eorzea first? Why are there so few in Othard/Thavnair?
It also puts into perspective just how impressive Nymian sailors were; that's an enormous distance to cover on the regular!

Cloud Test DC was vibrant, social, and collaborative: fishing there, alongside nearly 100(!!!) other fishers, chatting and working together all week long, was some of the most fun I've ever had in this game. Goodbye Phorcys, er... happy sundering..?

Words can barely express how UTTERLY ELATED I’ve been at literally /all/ of Aloalo. It’s more than I could have dreamed of!

Make that definitively just Aquamaton! Testing of the exact nature of the issue has to wait until Shadeshifter comes back, but in the meantime people needn't worry about running into similar issues with any other fish. Cheers to those that helped confirm these!
