my personal opinion is that aether currents are an excuse to really take in the world around you that the devs worked so hard on. slow down and look at stuff while you're popping your compass and zooming through the landscape. smell the roses etc etc etc.

For those who aren't aware, in Praetorium you used to have dialogue options with which to respond to Gaius' two questions, "For whom do you fight?" and "Do you believe in Eorzea?" These were removed when they started auto-playing the cutscenes way back.

I've made a simple albeit niche tool for ffxiv writers and RPers etc. For those of us concerned with establishing timelines, this calculates the offset from an origin date according to the Eorzean calendar (8 day weeks, 32 day months, 12 month years).

There are a few pairs of NPCs at the amphitheatre with popup dialogue for the Valentione's Day event. When I walked over to this one and saw this dialogue it was like I got kicked in the shin.

when people give me commendations on dps I have to assume they either
1) liked that I did mechanics correctly
2) are together in a party
3) are parsing and I'm doing good
4) like my glamour.
Those are the only reasons I can think of for getting commendations when I play dps.

The real reason we never see WoL act in combat-heavy cutscenes is probably because it would burden the devs to program an action that makes sense for every job, and shoulder the technical debt for when they add new jobs. It's probably a lot to ask with tight release schedules.

For controller players:
L1+dpad L/R: selects alliance members
L1+dpad Up/Down: selects aggrod mobs from the list
R2/L2+R1/L1 (in any combination): tabs targets selecting ONLY enemies. This is a godsend when there are NPCs scattered about a fight.

I use Obsidian to organize everything. You can have a cool graph view (zoomed out) where everything is connected to each other through what you mention in each note. There's also a "canvas" mode where you can link notes with lines visually. It uses markdown so formatting is easy.

when a boss' cast is interruptible, you can interrupt it at the beginning of the cast and the boss will stand there still like an idiot until it would have used the skill normally. you don't need to wait until the cast is almost done to maximize on time.

Replayed the DRK quests and at one point Sidurgu asks this and you have these responses.
When Gaius confronts WoL in the Praetorium and asks "For whom do you fight?" you used to be able to respond with these exact choices as well, plus silence as a 4th option.
It's interesting.
