Some exciting news. I am starting an online bookclub for English-speaking E/SE Asian diaspora 🙂
We will have short assigned readings (<1 hour) and a weekly discussion meeting on Twitter Spaces or Discord.
We will be reading Asian history books and de-colonial literature.
Korean dude got his mind raped by Evangelical Christianity at like 5 and now does stuff like this. It’s genuinely fcked up how much psychic damage this religion has inflicted on the Korean people. Worst part is that it’s all by design.
@aginnt
Daily reminder that the USA is literally the only entity in all of history to deploy all three categories of nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons on civilian centers.
And yet it never considers itself an empire, nor evil. That’s how propagandized its citizens are.
America is the only nation in the world to have used all 3 nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons on enemy combatants and civilian centers. If China had done this, it would have forever been held up as proof of the abject evil of communism. It’s really remarkable.
@60Minutes
Pretty sure ByteDance is just complying with local Chinese regulations. Y’know, it would not be hard at all for Americans to have this version of TikTok too. Instead we choose to wallow in our degeneracy and then blame others for it. What happened to freedom & responsibility?
Some people might wonder why I as a Korean tend to be pro-China. To be honest, I am only as pro-China as long as the Chinese nation continues to both preserve and update traditional East Asian civilization, rooted in the Three Teachings. The Wukong game is a great example of this
Don’t ever give Westerners the moral high ground. Why? Because it is easy to grant your citizens generous political freedoms (“human rights”) if you are sitting on a mountain of extracted wealth gained through centuries of slavery and genocide. Never forget what they did.
@60Minutes
The comparison to opium is especially odious since it evokes the Opium Wars of the 19th century. Opium was an addictive plague on 🇨🇳 society. The key difference is that 🇬🇧 used its warships to FORCE the 🇨🇳 government to allow its trade. What forcing is 🇨🇳 doing to the 🇺🇸 rn?
At the risk of sounding glib, this is perhaps the most based thing ever done by an American in the nation’s entire 250 year history. It’s the most direct, unambiguous refutation of its darkest tendencies: colonialism & genocide. I am in awe of the sheer moral clarity of this act.
@monday1979
@bigsnugga
British rule in India has actually been implicated in multiple famines and a combined death toll of over 100 million in 40 years
@YashengHuang
idk bro last time I cried was when I saw all those images of Palestinian women and children being slaughtered in their homes. it was only two weeks ago.
I don't see how one can be pro-Korean but not pro-Chinese. We belong to the same civilizational cluster. It's just stupid and short-sighted to not see how deep our historical ties are and how much we have to offer each other. I think anti-Chinese Koreans need a reality check.
It is difficult to express the revulsion and sadness this triggers within me. Imagine prioritizing the pet political project of some distant people who couldn’t give a fuck about you, over your own flesh, blood, and nation. All to secure your own “salvation”.
Zion Conference in South Korea
Footage has emerged from the Zion Conference hosted by the Jusarang Church in South Korea over the past few days. The conference called for churches to support Israel and pray for regime change in North Korea, which would then lead to
My message to pro-West Asians & Chinese dissidents: I understand your governments and societies are not perfect, but the West is not the solution. From living my whole life here, I’ve learned that Western elites associate foreign strife with 🤑 business opportunities …
Love it when Westerners cry about “ethnically homogenous” Asian societies. You know the West could have had this too if it didn’t engage in centuries of colonialism?
All your ancestors had to do was mind their own business. But they just loved enslaving others too much.
It’s kind of concerning that ROK citizens are this out of line with the global average with respect to recognizing China’s rising economic status. Something is seriously wrong with the news and media apparatus, I think. This is bordering on delusionally misinformed levels.
@bananneaheim
Funny how China never invaded the Philippines once in their entire history even though they are basically next door to each other. Meanwhile Philippines has had multiple colonization events from nations on the other side of the world which it now looks to for leadership.
Only 2% of Koreans were Christian before 1945 despite Christianity being around for a couple centuries by that point. And we all know what happened after 1945. From this, we can infer the popularity of Christianity in Korea is largely a byproduct of the US occupation.
I find it difficult to sympathize with Asian Americans who desperately seek acceptance by white society. I know no matter what I do, I’ll never be fully accepted, and that’s okay. I’d rather live this ugly truth than a beautiful lie of assimilation. Love yourself, don’t escape it
This is making the rounds. My only comment is that only in the West do we see this type of sexual behavior normalized and openly celebrated. Any barrier between the public and private has been obliterated. It’s a no-holds-barred endless orgy for the ruling class.
My feelings towards China as a Korean diasporoid is complex. It’s a mixture of admiration & respect, and, of course, some fear & distrust. But something I absolutely will not stand for as an East Asian is the disgusting blood libel campaign the US is waging against China.
@SenTomCotton
You’re a lowlife white supremacist & the unrepentant progeny of slavers, Tom Cotton. I hope the rest of the world is watching and taking note of your reprehensible conduct and jingoism. Truthfully, you don’t deserve to be part of the Union. If anyone should be deported, it’s you.
The average height of Chinese people is now similar (if not greater) than south Koreans despite having 1/3 its GDP/capita and 1/2 GDP/capita (PPP).
A huge sign of progress in the country that reflects an underlying strength not captured in econometrics.
Ah yes, the esteemed U.S.-Korea historical relationship:
1870s: Attacks KR with gunboats
1900s: Assents to JP colonization of KR
1940s: Splits KR in two, slaughters 20% of the population and installs dictator in its half
Present: Spies on and manipulates KR internal affairs
One of my favorite bits of East Asian history is the time when Joseon and Qing were arguing over borders and the Koreans got the Chinese to back off by appealing to the written word & common recorded history. A great example of civility reigning supreme between polities ✅
@60Minutes
But yeah, keep treating this like an insidious foreign plot rather than a reflection of your own society’s rot. Because we all know that’s a great way to fix one’s problems. Changing nothing about your own behaviors while blaming an external entity you voluntarily interact with🤦♂️
If China were to abandon its cultural roots and instead wholeheartedly embrace Western liberalism, modernity, Christianity, etc. I could never embrace it. I’m glad they provide an alternative and are stubborn in some ways.
I hope to see this representation continue.
I’m more than willing to discuss sociological issues East Asian societies deal with, including racism, but it’s clear the only reason you are posting this is to trade on your Asian identity markers in front of a Westernized audience. It’s attention-seeking behavior.
Westoids seem to genuinely believe that the rest of the world should praise and thank them for not committing a nuclear holocaust on them as soon as they had the capacity to LOL. The bar really could not be set lower than this. This is some genuine gutter stuff.
Modern Western civilization has extraordinary empathy compared to its power. This is also arguably its greatest weakness.
With the nuclear bomb, America could have subjugated every nation on Earth with ease. Hitler and Stalin would certainly have done so.
Instead, America
Jesus Christ, these Falun Gong people are actually monsters. I’m seriously creeped out by how they will traffick in literal “yellow peril” stereotypes against fellow Asians. What in the actual fuck.
@adrianzenz
Question for you Mr. Zenz. Do you consider what Israel is doing to the Palestinians right now a genocide? If not, why? Because it seems to me that being airstriked and rendered homeless is vastly worse than receiving job training to be able to work for Volkswagen…
Westoids are so obsessed with China I swear. It would be funny if it weren’t creepy af. That smug face too 🤮 Be on guard against these borderline psychotic Westoids.
I’d rather commit seppuku than write self-orientalizing trash like this. It is difficult for me to convey how little respect I have for this type of pandering to racist white people. You’re disgusting and I’m thrilled your lineage will soon be exiting our gene pool ✌️
I, like so many of you gaijins, love Japan. It’s the Galápagos Islands of civilization.
When you peel back the layers you find a country full of paradoxes. A nation of conformists can produce wild creativity. A culture devoted to tradition can embrace modernity.
I just accept
@KathyTChow
@the_point_mag
Some things are better left unsaid. As an Asian, you should know this. We are known for our subtlety & privacy, not parading around our inner lives to sell ourselves to the widest possible audience …
@60Minutes
America can ban TikTok all it wants. It will do nothing to address the underlying problem. A domestic version will spring up in its place and kids will just get addicted to that. The problem is that our government is dysfunctional, corrupt, and a victim to its own propaganda.
Someone should do a study on the phenomenon of white men pretending to be Asian or other POC online. I've seen it so many times by this point. On Reddit, X, basically any pseudonymous space. My theory is that it is rooted in a lack of shame and obsessive tendencies /1
The real revelation isn't that "Colonel Otaku Gatekeeper" isn't Japanese. Basically everyone knew that. What's shocking is that he's old enough to have played on the Sega Mega Drive as a kid. That makes his whole schtick so much more embarrassing than it already is.
@_earlyworm
Westoids are the last people to be talking about “stealing IP”. Do you have any idea how America built its industry? Literal state-sanctioned corporate piracy against Britain. And Britain copied Chinese designs for tea, porcelain, and silk back when they were prime exports.
@amnesty
Genuine Q. Are these reports from the same sources that told us Iraq had WMDs and we needed to invade them ASAP? Or that Putin had cancer? Or that KJU was dead?
You are white. And the direct inheritor of a cosmically evil legacy towards black people that pales in comparison to anything Asians have done or can even imagine doing. You really need to STFU and know your place. You have zero moral authority on this issue.
The relationship of Asian shopkeepers to Black neighborhoods isn't an "earned" social advantage, it's exploitative. They are established within food deserts and mostly sell poison. You didn't earn that, and it IS rooted in crime, crimes against humanity, theft of people and land.
LOL Jordan Peterson got trolled by that songpinganq account. This is amazing. But also sad. Actually it’s entirely sad 😭. JBP’s new McCarthyism (AKA the old McCarthyism with a raging benzo addiction) against China just reached rock-bottom. This is your brain on liberalism, folks
Love how these sellout Korean neocon westoids are promoting this abomination of an ‘alliance’ with its two largest historical colonizers. The amount of Korean civilians cruelly killed between these two nations numbers in the millions. And they want to use us to fight China? F off
Today, we welcome Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida for an address to Congress.
Last year, I wrote about the importance of strengthening the trilateral US/Korea/Japan alliance.
I look forward to building on this partnership.
@SenMarcoRubio
Want to know what a real genocide looks like? Masses of refugees fleeing their homes, crowding near borders; real time images of indiscriminate killings of men, women, and children alike. All things one can witness in Gaza today. An actual genocide - not a manufactured one
If you’re ethnically Korean and part of you doesn’t deeply yearn to witness the reunification of the Korean nation one day in your lifetime… that’s kinda cringe bro/sis ngl 😬
Found out my Dad’s side of the family were Japanese collaborators.
Doesn’t come as a shock to me, unfortunately. Just the fact that they immigrated to the US in the 70s and had good educational backgrounds was a red flag.
Mom’s side of the family are normal/peasant Koreans.
@SariArhoHavren
Judging from your attitude towards China now, you were clearly just there to exploit whatever residual institutional colonial privileges happened to remain. Not genuinely interested in the country or people.
Don’t really think you can call melting the flesh off of tens of thousands of civilians with napalm a “mistake”. Unless you think the Holocaust & Rape of Nanking were just mistakes. The correct term you are looking for is “crime against humanity that must be forever atoned for”.
@1984FucksSake
@bimbocommunist
God it’s going to be satisfying to see the deceitful genocidal world order your racist ancestors painfully built be completely unraveled in the coming decades 🙏
the west is a seriously cursed place. sht like this happens all the time yet it’s us Asians that are always singled out for being xenophobic and racist. what’s more racist than assaulting or killing somebody on the basis of their race?
cw: r*pe
See this guy on geopol spaces a lot. He’s a rabid China hawk & yt rightoid who I’ve called out multiple times. Not surprised at all to hear him espouse such disgusting misogynistic views. People like this need to be removed from civil society.
An amazing convergence. China’s infant mortality was 4x the USA’s in 1969 and now it is at parity w/ it. And with only 1/4 GDPpc... Much lower healthcare costs too. When you look at stats like these, it becomes apparent how we Americans are being scammed by our sh*tty leaders
@DrKevinGray
NYTimes is disgusting. They truly went out of their way to platform one of the less than 30% of Koreans who support Yoon’s traitorous pro-Japan policies. Just a disgusting paper that is complicit in the millions of civilians killed by US imperial aggression in the 20th century.
Based off conversations like these, it is evident that the historical awareness of most Americans does not extend past the last 70 years or the end of WWII. They literally have no clue why the US was all over Asia bombing millions despite no Asian nation laying a finger on the US
@litiumbarb
@tantantani7
@thefutxre
@PopBase
The U.S. literally sold out Korea to Japan in exchange for colonizing the Philippines. It’s called the Taft-Katsura Agreement, look it up. It’s amazing how miseducated Americans are on this topic. Acting like America just happened to be around to “help” SK from the North.
Western civilization really does not get enough heat for dragging the entire world into horrific wars. Naziism is presented as the exception to the European project but it is just as much its final culmination. People really need to critically examine the Enlightenment narrative.
Nazis being the ultimate evil really just covers up the fact that Europe as a whole was fucking evil.
Not like individual tyrants, but the entire system and experiment.
@duyeonkim
@USNavy
Korea was a unified nation for over 1000 years. The first encounters between the US and Korea involved the U.S. attacking it with warships, marking the beginning of Western imperialism on the Korean Peninsula. Ever since then Korea has either been colonized or split in two.
The most pressing matter that should be on the mind of every Asian American is whether American elites are trying to engineer a war in Asia to protect their privileges. They’ve done it before - killing millions of innocents - which suggests they are comfortable with the idea.
Getting mad because Chinese are generally hard workers and responsible savers is definitely one of the more interesting angles I see Westerners take when criticizing China.
I don't think they realize how bad and entitled it makes them look 🤷♂️
It’s harsh to say, but Asians who live and work in the West without taking any interest in the politics and history of their motherlands, speak out on diaspora issues, and who generally only focus on living out the Western liberal individualist fantasy are not worthy of respect.
Just admit that China is more diverse and has a better history of integrating its racial minorities than the US/West. Stop trying to put lipstick on a pig. The US only makes an effort to look progressive to distract from its past and ongoing mistreatment of racial minorities.
There are places more ethno-linguistically diverse than the US, yes.
But the US is genuinely one of the best at embracing and showcasing its diversity.
From the smartest woman I know on Twitter. South Korea should heed her words carefully, not the scammers in Washington. ROK tying its fortunes to a sinking USA is repeating the same mistake Joseon did during the late Qing period. And we all know how that turned out.
Exports from South Korea are down 12 months in a row.
Lowest global birth rate. Highest global suicide rate.
Rising exports are arms and munitions for NATO wars.
Korea, like Taiwan and Japan, is chained to a sinking hegemon.
It will miss out on Asia’s rise and integration.
It’s amazing how the Western elites who over the last few decades have pocketed trillions of dollars in collective wealth from China now expect us all to collectively hate & decouple from China. What’s the term for this again? Oh yeah. Privatized gains, socialized losses.
@billbirtles
Anglo museums are still full of artifacts and jewels looted from China, some of them priceless pieces of heritage. Does this not suffice to you as evidence of literal theft and victimization? Anglos also flooded China with drugs at gunpoint, with China powerless to stop it.
It still blows my mind how China and Russia have spoken “the multipolar world” into existence within a period of a few years. This is a brand new era now. What the hegemonic West with its exorbitant privileges fails to understand is that “multipolar” and “democratic” are synonyms
Funny because I’m the literal opposite. I never buy 🇬🇧 goods if I can help it. They lecture others about democracy while still having a Royal family lmao. Won’t have a single ounce of respect for them or their culture until the British Museum is emptied of all its stolen goods.
To elaborate, I think it is extremely revealing that DPRK 🇰🇵 is not hosting either the Russian or Chinese military. They got help from them then kicked them out, reclaiming their sovereignty. So why can’t ROK 🇰🇷 do the same? Why is it still hosting a foreign military on its soil?
@XVIVLXX
@yeongno3
If a country needs to host a foreign military in order to defend itself, can you really say it represents the will of its people? Because from an outside POV it looks more like a puppet state propped up by foreign interests, not a truly sovereign country.
@Jkylebass
These accusations by the US State Department would carry so much more merit if it didn’t spend the last 20 years prosecuting a criminal war in the Middle East. Literally fabricated evidence for WMDs to justify Iraq invasion, and now expect us to believe Uyghur genocide? Get real.
Get this fcking garbage out of my mother country! This is an absolute abomination and a stain on the collective consciousness of all peace-loving and civilized Korean people who have lived on the land of Dangun 조상 since time immemorial.
No to Zionism! No to US military! GTFO
Replace Vietnam with Korea and this is basically how I feel too. I feel infinitely more in common with Chinese people and culture than Anglos/Westerners. I don’t like the brashness and ideological fanaticism of Westerners, looser family bonds, and attitudes towards law & customs.
@thinking_panda
The Chinese people are our brothers and sisters, and we have a common struggle against imperialism and colonialism. Our bond with them has remained strong throughout history, as we've shared a border and intertwined destinies for over two thousand years.
We deeply appreciate the
… first and foremost. They’d love nothing more than to destabilize China & Asia, even if it means hundreds of millions dying in the resulting chaos & poverty. If you have any regard for the well-being of your ancestral homeland, do not associate with these vultures.
Daily reminder that printing technology was absolutely essential for the intellectual revolutions in Europe - the Renaissance and the Enlightenment - that preceded the Industrial Revolution. Yet we are never taught this in Western schools.
Printing
The development of printing in ancient China revolutionized the world, enabling the mass production and dissemination of written knowledge. From woodblock printing to moveable type, the fascinating invention of printing in ancient China changed the world.
1/7🧵
Was talking to my mother earlier today about how it’s so obvious that the US doesn’t give a single fuck about Korea and has actually been complicit in Japanese colonialism from day one. Any enmity reserved for Japan should be equally directed at America.
I love the Chinese affinity for books and learning. It’s often overlooked in the West that China printed the world’s first book: The Diamond Sutra, a Buddhist text that expounds the unreality of the self.
Fun fact: the 💎📖 is the first known public creative work with a 1/
In religious countries (and empires of the past), people build huge temples, churches, mosques etc.
In countries dominated by sports, they build large stadiums.
In China, the government builds magnificent public libraries.
#Beijing
To be honest, I derive no joy from dragging boba libs. I am a peace-loving person. But if all you can to think to write about in a time of historical anti-Asian racism and violence is your racialized love life, you won’t find any respect or sympathy from me - sorry.
Re: Current tensions between Chinese and Korean Twitter diasporas. Let’s refrain from being racist towards each other, okay? We may have political differences but this should not spill over into attacks on each other’s innate characteristics or desirability…
@Jingjing_Li
Well said. I personally think it’s important to not let Japan get away with war crime denial just because it aligns with US geopolitical interests. Unfortunately that appears to be the situation right now. Thanks for sharing your thoughts Jingjing!
westerners love to repeat this factoid about korean slavery because it makes them feel better about their own sordid past. they love to say “lOnGeST UnBrOkEn ChAiN” 🙄 Yes, but you know that’s mostly because Joseon was one of the longest-lived dynasties in history, right? /1
I don’t know if white people who espouse this line are stupid or just deceitful. Y’all be spreading blood libel about Asians 24/7 on your news networks and don’t think this plays a major role in these anti-Asian attacks? Most of the attackers are schizo homeless / underclass i.e.
Genuinely feel sorry for Asian Americans who are all-in for Americanization. As China’s growth outpaces the US’, Asians will increasingly be seen as a hostile presence in the US regardless of their identification. Kenny is so delusional it hurts to witness. Wake up, brother.
Even in our daily lives, it is readily obvious that there exists a moral difference between those who gain wealth primarily through honest work and those who gain it from stealing and bullying (i.e. gangsters/mafia). This is the difference between China/Asia and the modern West.
I think it took the Chinese (and other East Asians) a while to realize their civilizational success was not pre-ordained and that there is no final resting point upon which to declare total victory. Time never stops.
Now it is time for the West to learn the same lesson.
Let me provide an example. Control of the tea trade was an integral part of the rise of the British Empire. It is a well-documented fact that they stole the trade, including manufacturing secrets, wholesale from China. But who did China steal tea from? Nobody - they invented it.
The Japanese were acting under the direction of the U.S. Empire. Their grotesque wars of aggressions, mass murders and colonisation of Korea and Taiwan would not have happened without the full backing of the Americans.
Am I against the American people? No.
Am I against the American Empire and all those who knowingly and willingly sustain and propagate it? Yes.
Even if I were to accept the questionable premise that empires are natural & inevitable, Americans are not civilized rulers IMO.
We need to start building reports against this account. It is obviously a white guy pretending to be Asian so he can spew racist crap while directing the blowback to Asians. These larping white guys are something else. Literal barrel-scraping losers.

I feel bad for any Asian student who ends up taking courses with this professor. Might also want to check if there are any sexual harassment issues...
They are not your friends. Rather, seek to build your wealth, power, and network in the West in order to promote and advocate for peace & a multipolar world. Do not let Western elites use any more Asians or anyone else as pawns in their quest for tyrannical hegemony.
If you are looking for a new TV series to watch, I highly recommend “Warrior” on HBO Max. It is a historical drama centered around the gangs of San Francisco Chinatown during the Chinese Exclusion Act. Has a good mix of drama, martial arts, and history. Season 3 recently started.
Nothing inherently wrong with being a Westernized Asian - there’s no natural law ordaining cultural loyalty - but as dutiful Asian diaspora we should not tolerate such people actively seeking to reshape our home societies according to their newly adopted Western values.
And now Yale Professor, Grace Kao, tackling the question ...
"Are pets replacing kids in Korea?"
Grace isn't Korean.
She doesn't live in Korea.
She's very religious - Christian.
WMAF husband.
She "loves K-pop."
Yep, she's qualified.
