I’d like to dedicate this Frontline Friday to non-consultant hospital doctors across our health system. A diverse group of individual who are defined by something that they are not, they encompass the full swath of medical & surgical specialities, subspecialties and generalities
With great sadness we acknowledge sudden death of Enda McDermott (Class of 1977, Cons Surgeon
@SVUH
& Ass Surgery Prof

) on Tues 4th May
Remembered as exemplary surgeon, highly valued colleague with kind nature & terrific educator and mentor to all young medics. RIP
To help with neurology teaching, Prof Niall Tubridy and his colleagues in St Vincent's University Hospital produced a 51 episode series of short videos on key themes and patient examinations. The series was made publicly available on our YouTube channel.
The team in

would like to thank their colleagues across
@ucddublin
for helping them gather this supply of

equipment which was dispatched to our clinical colleagues in the Mater earlier today.
Míle buíochas Well done to David C and the gang.
Although it has been the worst kept 'secret' of 2019, we are now in a position to formally announce the appointment of two new Full Professors at the UCD School of Medicine
A role model for all, Dora graduated with a Medicine (MB BCh BAO) and an intercalated Masters (MSc) yesterday. Did we mention that she also took the 1941 Medal (highest GPA in final two years of Medicine programme) and the Paediatrics Medal (highest score in Paediatrics)?
Our President has conferred posthumous degrees on the late Dr Lorcán Miller and Dr Eimear Walsh, presenting the parchment to both parents.
#UCDMEDCLASSOF2018
To all those working together to tackle the current Covid-19 pandemic. Our sincere thanks for your dedicated and selfless service.

Personal opinion alert. Getting really fed up of the pantomime around public sector strikes. The seeds of the current disputes were shown during the "emergency measures" during our economic crisis. Rather than cutting salaries across the board, Govt and Unions were happy to

Lets hear it for the great cleaning ladies (and men) of Crumlin, Temple Street and every other hospital. They carry the soul of these hospitals in their hearts. Special shout out to Rose in John's Ward.
When I was 13 I had to go to hospital in Dublin, Crumlin. I was a long way from home, lonely and miserable. Everyday a cleaning lady came to the ward and would smile at me and ask me if I was ok. She noticed I had some magazines with space stuff in them

Andrew, sorry to hear that you are struggling with this isolation. I suspect many are. But I really appreciate you speaking up. I hope that our retweet will help unlock many more letters to you.

It is clear to anyone who is familiar with their lot, that our nurses are reluctant strikers. that they care about their patient's more than the HSE does, that they are really suffering financial hardship on top of intolerable working conditions.

Radiographers Rock!
Radiographers are a key part of the country’s frontline fight against COVID-19. Every day thousands of imaging examinations are performed on patients suspected of having COVID-19 and patients with confirmed COVID-19.
May Michael Byrne be free from suffering and rest easy in sleep eternal. Thank you sincerely to those UCD colleagues who helped Michael on his way, around the campus, over those many years.
Michael Byrne, affectionately known as “Old Man Belfield” by students and staff, sadly passed away on Monday 11 January 2021.
A fiercely private person, we thank those of you who quietly looked out for Michael.
We will miss him around the campus.

My pet hate is the phrase ‘Money follows the Patient’.
1. It doesn’t
2. It reduces patient to a commodity and healthcare to a transaction.
3. Mentions money before Patient.
4. Most HCP’s consider what is best for Patient not how will this help the flow of funds.

It is quite clear that GP's in Ireland are in an abusive relationship with successive Irish Govts. Primary Care is central to planned healthcare reform. There is little value in the monopoly purchaser (Govt) driving the service providers into bankrupcy.
I understand you might not have much sympathy for doctors (on account of how well paid they are, how they are always playing golf, *insert own prejudice here*) but if you cared about patient safety you wouldn't let this feudal system continue into next week.
It’s midnight,just home. Started work at 6am. 16hrs straight,no breaks. Feet on fire. I can’t believe Irish people would suggest I should be forced to stay in Ireland in these conditions

As women carry the entire burden of pregnancy, society needs to support this strategically vital role by not expecting them to be superhuman too. Time out for pregnancy should be seen in context of full career.
@ailsybird
Think we need to remember pregnancy is a tiny amount of time in a life long career - think minding our pregnant trainees and accepting we aren’t superhuman is needed? It’s not failure to mind yourself and your pregnancy... as someone who has taken a long time to learn that

Everyone should at least once in their life view the proceedings of the Oireachtas to understand how difficult it can sometime be, to do the right thing. Would like to offer our support to Minister
@SimonHarrisTD
as he seeks to make the Public Health (Alcohol) Bill a reality.
Any premature death is a tragedy. One so violently and needlessly caused is an unspeakable horror. That the victim was murdered at her place of work is shocking in the extreme. That an otherwise civilised country continually fails to invoke sensible gun laws is shameful.
This is the face of the amazing emergency physician Dr Tamara ONeal, at work today, before she was murdered.
Tonight, hold her, her family, & our colleagues at
