hats off to everyone at
@anza_xyz
@jito_labs
@jump_firedancer
@marginfi
and the ecosystem at large for all of their hardwork these last few weeks
a special thanks to all of you plebs for being patient with us in the meantime
@R89Capital
place bets that allow you to profit off the most dystopian future that you can imagine. use gains to distance yourself from its most extreme instantiations
imagine comparing a controlled experiment, where the entire stack can be optimized for goodput, to a public network where every craterbrain with some incoherent typescript can hose the leader down with traffic that wouldn't succeed if it landed
these people are taken seriously?
@Austin_Federa
No one in EF made statements about 50k tps in the years leading up to crypto kitties. Also, Ethereum had a functioning fee market throughout the congestion and you could land a TX with sufficient fees.
This is not the same.
Maybe it's just time to admit that you've been
good news! we've got some changes that alleviate the quic bottleneck
bad news... we're getting pistol whipped by Amdahl's Law
stay tuned. the cooks are in the kitchen
ackshually... in internal debugging, under worse conditions than mainnet beta is seeing, it's as bad as 5TPS! a patch we're testing takes that to 75kTPS. caveat being this has tx ingest isolated. there may be bottlenecks behind it as per
@jump_firedancer
's amdahl's street justice
i've said it once and i'll say it again...
if solana doesn't die as a single chain in a pile of burning asics, i'm going to be very dissappointed
anyone who thinks we're tapped out on perf at L1 is not likely qualified to be launching an L2

if you or someone you love runs a TESTNET node, this message is for you
please upgrade TESTNET validators to agave v1.18.11 to assist in further validating congestion improvements
keep <5% delinquency, etc
NOTE I SAID TESTNET IN CAPS TWICE DO NOT RUN THIS SHIT ON MAINNET BETA
💯 this! a hand full of us burnt our weekend, some the last few weekends, grinding on the congestion issues. i won't name names to protect the innocent, but there is some great working being done in the shadows, where it's always done
Dear Solana core devs, I know everyone on twitter thinks
@trentdotsol
is the only dev working on this. I just want you to know I see you. I know you all are there. And while
@trentdotsol
is selling his soul on twitter yall are doing the real work of fighting the borrow checker.
he still doesn't understand that congestion _is_ an economic bug
after the implementation bugs are fixed, if we switch to a more efficient quic implementation, if we abandon quic entirely, there can still be congestion
resources are not infinite. underpricing their demand is
PSA: always fix that janky code when you first notice it. it will 100% come back to bite you when you're trying to ship something totally unrelated under pressure
just realized other chains are now
*checks notes*
posting jobs targeted exclusively at onboarding other chains' developers 😭
guys I will give you a hint: this is not the way to do that
remember, these are improvements to swqos. their impact should scale with breadth of adoption. don't expect a major change in unstaked tpu traffic reliability
keep delinquency under 5% while upgrading
we have more in the pipe. stay tuned
The v1.17.31 release is now recommended for general use by MainnetBeta validators. This release contains enhancements which will help alleviate the ongoing congestion on the Solana Network.

@Cointelegraph
Yet those proponents are also happy to accept those bots transactions (not failed ones) towards Solana TPS.
Meaning that actual real TPS after taking them out is around 15 TPS!
Things are not what they are presented to be. Solana's 'fake it until you make it' is laughable
last week i took a break from the congestion of today to get a demonstration of what the congestion of tomorrow might look like. nothing short of remarkable work from the cracked team
@jump_firedancer
!
they told you all that 1.18.12 includes improvements for congestion on the primary tpu, right? get those TESTNET nodes updated so we can see how they look.
there is literally nothing more Solana than the core lead dev quote tweet dunking the founder of the chain 😂
you would get stoned for this on certain chains and spontaneously combust due to -99 alignment
1/📣Breaking News:
@PayPal
USD (PYUSD) is live on Solana!
PayPal USD stablecoin issued by
@Paxos
will leverage Solana and token extensions to serve over 30m+ merchants, empowering users with fast and secure stablecoin transactions.
from the replies i guess it's not obvious but, this is a _process_. shipping a release does not deploy it to thousands of nodes. that requires thousands of humans to do things. some (rightfully!) requiring their own QA first. your continued patience is highly appreciated!
a friendly reminder to merge your mergeable stake accounts. there are idle lamports in there
how do you merge stake accounts?
ask your favorite wallet vendor why they don't make it glaringly obvious. it's good for the user and good for the chain
i don't understand this "put ore on testnet" intiative. the technicals are irrelevant. it's the economic incentives. we've observed and replicated the spamming strategies its mainnet-beta deployment motivated. there is zero to gain from a testnet deployment. pure distraction
> be me
> listen to validator operators complain about stake not flowing to them by magic
> suggest that talking about solana technicals on bird app might be valuable (to avoid doing it myself)
* years later *
> end up on bird app anyway
> operators are all shilling LSTs
be like
@Tristan0x
. optimize your programs before i get my way and the protocol charges fees directly for compute. your users will love you. hats off to the
@ZetaMarkets
team for taking the initiative!
1/ Solana's transaction landing issues are a huge problemo for us running a DApp that handles 4m+ txs/day and requires active liquidity.
So devs did something about it, and shaved 75% off our maker order compute which according to
@RealSpaceMonkey
has 2x'ed his success rate 🥇
Amazing how Solana went from $75-100 BILLION DAILY stablecoin volume to $7 BILLION daily in 1 day!!
Might it be because the data was totally fake??? Like how I've been talking about all these months??
And by the way even at $7 Billion 90% of the volume is still fake
tl;dr on simd-0096
preliminaries: the rationale for burning 50% of tx fees (not "rent"!) today is to discourage leaders from manipulating block content so as to induce an increase in fees collected. without a burn, manipulation is free as the leader is paying themselves to do it
Solana Foundation has removed some validators from validating Solana.
This is ridiculous!
Permissionless? Decentralized? What a joke!
"Solana solved MEV!"
They're just liars and grifters.
ok so the only reason that 1.18.12 improves program deploys is _if_ you pass --use-rpc _and_ you have an rpc provided with swqos. it didn't fix it by magic. it added the override flag. if you don't have both those things you're in the same place as all previous versions
apparently the followers are too left curve for this one
it is an analogy to Marchetti's constant in transport engineering. that people accept a constant daily travel time, regardless of travel speed. they will trade improvements in travel speed for longer travel distance
imo the biggest barrier to solana's early adoption was our stubbornly eschewing industry standard language for "better" names. for the shit that doesn't matter, just meet people where they are
to be clear, the "or later" is a function of testing proving the changes are safe to ship. we're pretty happy with internal results so far. obv those results only extrapolate so far wrt their effectiveness on a public chain
@samvwaal
"rent" has been dead for like a year. it's more like a "state bond" now that all accounts have to be what has historically been called "rent-exempt." that said, all constants are bugs and fixed economics are bullshit. this is definitely in the pipe, but we have hotter fires atm
@ufukaltinok
we are the same, you and i. economic problems cannot be solved by mechanical treatment. this is the lewis-mogridge position. luckily there is nothing preventing us from developing an appropriate, resource-bound fee mechanism. keep pushing
@rexstjohn
you can see where we deployed some of them to the explorer ping api infra. they actually worked better than i thought for deployment on a single node. the efficacy increases with breadth of deployment
i've said it once and i'll say it again...
if solana doesn't die as a single chain in a pile of burning asics, i'm going to be very dissappointed

Dynamic base fees would dramatically decrease the incentive to spam on Solana.
Per-account dynamic write lock fees would quickly zero the incentive to mine $ORE, while returning that value to the network.
fyi: it's called "central" 'cause in the current scheduler transaction buffers are in thread-local-storage. so every banking thread only has a 1/Nth view of the total pending transaction set 🫠
TIL, after nearly 4 years in Solana, you get rewards during the deactivation epoch when re-delegating stake.
Meaning, re-delegation of stake loses you 1 epoch of rewards, not two.
