@GleanerSierraLe These spurious allegations against a reputable citizen are a slur not just against Gento, but against all Sierra Leoneans. Gento should demonstrate their baselessness by immediately publishing the business plan for his seaport, complete with a list of his business partners.

@ibzaizu I haven’t asked for EDSA to be removed. Renewables are but a part of the answer. IPPs aren’t defined by size and may sell to domestic users as well as industry, I’m surprised that someone so concerned by ignorant commenting as you would make such a schoolboy error.

@ibzaizu That 30% receive an erratic service at best. Our ‘independent’ power producers are forced to sell to EDSA. Therein lies the problem. End the monopoly and let them sell directly to consumers. I guarantee that there’s a market. As for Maada’s government, that’s a moot point.

@dsengeh @lemarve Cheaper, but not constant, so requiring expensive back up generators. Mitigating that cost across several customers would bring it down. It makes one wonder why govt’s subsidising our tariff. As per my opening tweet, why not let those who want to pay more for a constant service.

@lemarve @dsengeh I don’t understand the logic of retaining a monopoly you evidently can’t maintain. EDSA acts as an inhibitor not enabler. There’s some universal access argument to be made, but surely that would be more easily achieved by freeing up the units consumed by high demand customers.

@ginnymooy I do agree, and I can’t speak to the Dutch press, but if it walks like and duck and talks like a duck… I guess it depends on how important they think it to get the story published. So as not to let MKM’s mis-speakings compromise the truth, the press should cast their nets wider.

@ginnymooy Depending on whether those sources will willingly be quoted publicly. Kamarainba’s in a unique position to report on what many here won’t, although they’ll feed him information, which can sometimes be twisted. A problem in societies like ours, where the press isn’t really free.

@ginnymooy Pick up a copy of Africa Confidential, or pick up the phone to anyone here in Sierra Leone, who’ll confirm that the fundamentals are correct. Kamarainba’s not breaking news, merely reporting what’s already public knowledge in Sierra Leone, and of great concern to many of us here.

@ginnymooy I’m sure you’ve done your homework but, just in case, here are the sources of those ‘childish photoshop’ ID cards:

@dsengeh It doesn’t make sense that thousands of households operate generators, often bigger than needed, with the attendant issues of noise and air pollution, when one IPP could satisfy their needs and frustration, while alleviating demand for EDSA. What’s the argument for monopoly?

@dsengeh Demand will only rise. EDSA will forever be playing catch up & it’s debatable that they’ll ever be able to prevent theft, distribution losses or MDA non-payment. Let’s break up the monopoly. Bring in IPP’s, tax their profits and put that money towards improving the grid.

The Dutch sense of humor is often characterized by its directness, absurdity, and a strong element of irony - as is plainly evident in this tweet by their Minister of Justice and Security.
Today the Dutch extradition request for convicted drug criminal Jos Leijdekkers was handed over to the authorities of Sierra Leone. I hope for swift action from the authorities of Sierra Leone and to find them on our side in this fight against international organized crime.
