As someone who grew up with buses, a car is the ultimate symbol of freedom. With a bus, I have to travel on a fixed schedule to a limited # of destinations, decided by others. With a car, I can go anywhere anytime. Naturally, any ideology that is anti-freedom wants to ban cars.
