I took my two young girls to a swimming pool and was made to buy them arm bands (single parent swimming with two kids under 5). My eldest looked at the receptionist and queried “why, when I can swim like Gertrude Ederle!?” It was an absolute mood
I got my Bioinformatics MRes R programming feedback today… “exceptional, nothing else to say” - this module was a big leap for me so I’m going to celebrate tonight with wine! Thanks

Feeling so lucky to have managed to make it away to Lapland last week! Booked two years ago, cancelled last year, and lots of stress with changing entry requirements - all worth it to see the kids excitement and joy!
This morning I spoke to my very own secondary school, Huntington School, about being a cancer scientist, as part of their enrichment events - I even got to show a dodgy school photo!
Local lockdown imminent, so getting our pumpkin picking done early 🎃! There is a small possibility that we take this a little too seriously!

What is breast cancer research and how do we do it in Nottingham? Join me for a public lecture on the 14th October! I’m going to make this bite size and not too scientific, so if you wanted to learn more about research, I’d really love to see you there!
Last lockdown lunch before school starts back tomorrow. It’s been tough work having these little ones for lockdown company, but it’s also been absolutely magic! I’ll feel like part of me is missing tomorrow!
My 7 year old had her first online watercolour painting lesson yesterday. She’s done a ‘creatures under the sea’ painting for her school today and I NEED to frame it - very

@VikiLovesFACS
I had this recently! Authors, addresses etc all counted. Clinical details that remained identical with previous studies were also highlighted. I contacted tha editor who asked me to re-submit - there were no subsequent issues.
We received funding to update our x-ray irradiation facility which is now in place! Should be ready to use in a week or so

I emailed a conference that I wouldn’t attend as they had a 1:7 female:male speaker ratio.
They emailed back to say they had taken my photo and put me on their website as an invited speaker - without talking to me!! That’s not a way to fix things!

Gaslighting at its worst. Smiling and laughing when being held to account. I’m so disappointed that laughter is this governments response, with data clearly indicating the UK has the worst death rates in the world.
Finished the week being able to place an order for a brand new

X-ray facility for the
@UoN_BDI

and many others!
May has been a nightmare month, but I submitted my MRes Bioinformatics research dissertation on Friday! I’ve loved learning how to build my own data pipelines, but this final stretch has been stressful! Celebrating with a 5KM run with a view!

Long term school closures will have a huge impact on my young children’s educational and social development.
As a lone parent, and a laboratory fellowship holder, long term school closures will also have a dentrimental impact on the career that I love.
I’m finding it difficult to express how important this is
We all care about our collective safety, and about our children
There are long term, enduring harms to ongoing school closures
We must do everything we can to make this work
For our children
For their future
Today we welcome our first cohort to our
#Bioinformatics
degree apprenticeship.
The team have worked hard to move this week's masterclass online so that our
#apprentices
can begin their programme on their original start date. Good luck everyone!

The final day for early bird registrations is tomorrow, the 31st of May! So come and join us at this face to face meeting.
