This is Anto. He's from Dublin. He left school early to get a job like everyone he knows. No matter how hard he works, he'll never own a house and he's lost faith in any all systems in place to "support" him. People like Niall like to mock him, and think they're above him
Laaads. A very prominent Irish outdoorsie influencer (who regularly takes groups out on hikes and hill walks) just posted about not realising tick bites are serious and can lead to Lymes disease
I'm born and bred in the flats in Dublin. Yes, there's an issue with racism in our community. Racism permeates all classes, unfortunately. Using classism to fight racism will not end well.
Attitudes like yours are the problem. Affluent people who are afraid to be perceived as punching down, instead make excuses for, patronise & infantilize working class communities. I'm from o'devaney gardens, working class communities have a racism problem. It has to be dealt with
Irish media has a race and class problem - so much of what we're reading and hearing about the events of the past few days are from white middle class pundits talking to their own demographics. It's an opinion vacuum.
Those within Irish journalism are very hesitant to criticise their peers, I've noticed, it's all "buy a paper" and never we need to critically assess why irish journalism serves as a great hiring pool for aspiring political advisors
Well, I've a bit of news. Honoured to be taking over as editor of
@DublinInquirer
from the inimitable
@LoKapila
. Many thanks to Lois, Sam and all the team at DI for creating a much needed platform for local news on politics,arts, and life in Dublin city and long may it continue!
sorry to all the irate lads in me mentions, you're right. let's stereotype a group of marginalised people based on the actions of a few- that always seems to work out well 👏 let's be honest, you're frothing at the mouth getting to air your long held entrenched views on poor ppl
My spicy take of the day: middle class street photographers walking into flat complexes/tradionally working class spaces and taking "gritty" pictures gives me the ick
Those speaking about class in the arts still not understanding that you are in the way, can I tell you working class people do not exist for your career - middle class women get out of the way - middle class men what is it that makes you think you should/could tell our stories?
Delighted to report that
@DublinInquirer
has received it's first ever grant! We'll have more details announced shortly, watch this space in the coming few days for more developments.
Large cheer for

Henry Street shop steward Jane Crowe as she is the last to be removed from the Parnell Street loading bay ; the site of protests for over a year.
This is wild. Abby pretended to be a writer on a sitcom up for an Emmy. Her tweets,have since been included in articles, crediting her as the creator of the show and now the BBC are contacting her for comment. WHY ARE JOURNALISTS NOT DOING BASIC FACT CHECKING??

I've a long read this week in
@DublinInquirer
about the circumstances surrounding Terence Wheelock's death following Garda custody, and his families 19 year long fight for an independent public inquiry.
@KellieTallant24
The pinned comment, which I can see has since been taken down was telling people to put olive oil on a tick and rub counter clockwise. "No need for a remover". My point is if you are making a business out of hiking , having written books and such, you should probably know that
@RoseFle54723126
Why are you assuming I'm affluent 😂 I'm from the flats too Rose. There is an issue with racism in our community, no doubt about it. There's racism in middle and upper classes too. Racism cannot be fought with classism, end of.
Absolutely vile comments from Ruairi Quinn. I grew up in these flats, you couldn't find a more community-driven and friendly neighbourhood, however not uncommon to find this thinking among the denizens of Sandymount and co.
Officially one year off the smokes today! 🎉 Believe me when I say I never thought I'd get here. I used to have a cig practically welded to my hand at all times. Anywho personal milestone complete and can't recommend
@HSEQuitTeam
enough, they helped me through the dark days 🖤🖤
How did RTE think this was an acceptable poll to publish? Imagine if it was debating the existence of other minorities in Ireland, there would be murder, and rightly so.

There's nothing new to say about the scenes in Coolock these past few days. Years upon years of state neglect crystallised into fear and anger. Without a doubt, there's sinister violent elements at play here. But it's not everyone. Some are fed up with unequal system. They see

Yesterday's launch of report in

about media coverage of people with disabilities in Ireland was eye opening. Journalists must do better featuring sources with lived experiences of disability in stories. Congrats to researchers and School of Critical Media Literacy
Cosgrave being the latest victim of the pro-Israeli mob is regrettable, but let's give over with the pious Paddy act. If the man is more than happy to hop into bed with Qatar for next year's Web Summit, I fear international human rights are not front and centre of his agenda

I wasn't posting the video or her name on purpose. My point hasn't changed. If your business model is bringing a bunch of people on hikes, you should probably know the life threatening things that can happen outdoors. And again, not pin pseudo science crap in comments.
@Scrubs1O
Mary, I have nothing against the influencer, she seems like a lovely person. It's okay to criticise people with large followings, who give bad advice that could potentially harm someone.
Still a long way to go, but got to present part of my research on trust and social class today for my confirmation exam. Many thanks to

Highly recommend this informative and powerful opinion piece by

Find it so interesting that the presumption is that working class people are overwhelmingly voting far right this election. And why that may be true in certain geographical areas, the picture below is actually more nuanced
Hey kids, remember the 90's? Me too! You should totally vote for me! Yes my party has engineered the worst housing crisis in history, turning this country into a loosely regulated planners paradise. Yes, a colleague of mine is also suing a swing.
But... remember b*witched?!
If you remember Tamagotchis, Polly Pocket and wanted to be a member of B*Witched, then this video is for you!
On Friday, please vote No. 1 Maria Walsh.

Not tweeting in defense of Versatile here but are you saying that inner city kids can't go to a private school? You can be from the flats in Ringsend, and go to a private school, or would you just prefer to pigeon hole working class people?
For anyone interested, I'm reporting from Paris, and giving some context to the rioting that's engulfed the nation for over a week. You can listen back to my not-so-dulcet tones below xx

Imagine what a Garda would/could do if they knew that there was no way to identify them. Even if they do something wrong, how can the commissioner or anyone correctly identify them. Scary fucking times.
After having way too much coffee, I descended onto South William St and jumped, made a wincing face and clutched my lady parts as I'd imagined I was walking into a poll. Alas there was no pole. Whole of Metro Cafe saw me being imaginary attacked in gooch. Still thinkin about it.
I have fond memories of the grushys from growing up in the flats Ringsend.
As it turns out, the tradition comes from Scotland, and is steeped in symbolism — it's related to the idea of paying a fine to allow the bride to be moved to the man’s house.

As a man, you have the right to choose and make the best decision for your life. You want to deny women the same right because of party politics?
Journalism is a notoriously difficult industry to break into and more so if you are working class. I became disillusioned and bitter early on seeing peers with parents in industry glide over me and into cushy jobs. Lack of working class voices in media also directly impacts trust
While we rightly focus on the importance of diversity in media ownership, a diverse workforce is also essential for a sustainable industry.

I was in the same school as a pretty famous Irish glamour model. One time FHM came to our school and filmed her for FHM high st hunnies. Same time as filming I get sent out of class-I'm crying waiting for principal but I'm in the shot and crew ask me to pretend to photocopy

done and dusted! There's still an online group this Thursday and we're particularly interested in recruiting more women (and anyone from inner city!)
In the wake of a declining newspaper industry, precipitated by advertising revenue moving overwhelmingly online, the idea that digital publishers can so easily and blatently inflate their numbers highlights a staggeringly unequal playing field and should not be ignored.

journalism awards draw attention to the best and brightest of Irish media and no doubt there's some talented hacks in the mix but all I see when I look at the nominations is the glaringly obvious- Irish journalism has a serious gender and race issue.
