Self employed Consultant motorsport & aerospace design engineer. Husband, dad, Porsche nerd. Ex Lead Design Eng Bloodhound SSC, ex Williams F1 design engineer.
I'm so proud of my daughter, she has just secured at apprenticeship with the
@WilliamsRacing
team. She is understandably totally made up, as are we, they are the friendliest team on the grid.
Just had a call with a motorsport team about some consultancy, 100% on site, so I thought not for me.
When they asked if I can perform under pressure, I thought "let's make their day less dull" so responded "I'm not 100% sure of the lyrics, but I'll give it a try"
Why do car manufacturers think touch sensitive controls work for a steering wheel? They are bloody awful, you have no idea if you are on the button and end up fingering around in the dark like an excited 16yo boy
@harrismonkey
I hate touch screens in cars. With a knob or a button you get to know where it is as you can feel it, with a button you are forced to take your eyes off the road to find the right area on the screen.

Labour at least attempted to answer the question, conservative blithered on about Hunt Sunak & labour problems, rather than offering a decent reply
@ScarbsTech
That's a "plug fitting" with a "keep plate". Used where some rotation for fitting or alignment is required, otherwise you have the keep plate as an integral part of the plug fitting.
JUNE: It’s your civic duty to get wankered in the pub.
JULY: Go back to work on public transport, the tube is a great way to travel.
AUGUST: Get to the Harvester, fuck it, we’ll pay half!
SEPTEMBER: You selfish virus spreading bastards, go and think about what you’ve done.
@edwinhayward
How is this not illegal. My local tory MP,
@JackLopresti
won't be getting my vote, nor that of most of Stoke Gifford from what I can tell.

Main bush from Elan M100 gear lever housing. These wear resulting in sloppy gear change & are no longer available. New partt modeled in CAD & 3d printed in Graphite SLS by
@3dPrintDirectUK
. Direct replacement. This technology will help keep old classics moving.

Yeah, it's just the flu as people keep saying, exactly the same, other than the fact it kills 10X more people & is way more contagious. And that's with various lockdowns in place
@Christo03770888
Bullworker, the day before my uncles wedding I was bouncing on one of these (I was about 10) wedging it onto my stomach & bouncing, it slipped, smashed my face up nicely! Blood, bruising & thick lips everywhere.

In the case of drive through, how hard would it be to print a sticker with the vehicle Reg number on it? I've been saying this for years. Place the sticker on the bag.
Finally got to see a
@DowsettsCars
Tipo 184 today. An absolute credit to its creator
@classiccarguru1
, lovely to finally catch up with Darren too after many a twitter conversation during lockdown. The car was better in flesh than in print.
It's that day,, Smith & Sniff "On That Live Of Things" with
@sniffpetrol
&
@Carpervert
. Hoping the weather holds as the Blue car hasn't been used for three weeks & needs a run, if it's crappy, it'll be the Orange car.
That moment when a faceless keyboard warrior tell you "you know nothing about the car the car" when talking about
@Bloodhound_LSR
yes, that just happened
So...sitting there having lunch & we get showered with helicopter parts landing all around us, pilot OK, we were too, although it was close!!! Punched several holes clean through the hanger next to us (yes in one side & out the other)....off to buy a lottery ticket
Very sad to hear of Ron Ayers passing. Had the pleasure of his company on many occasions whilst designing
@Bloodhound_LSR
, when Ron spoke, the room listened.
One of the absolute greats of Land Speed Record racing has left us. Ron Ayers, who led the design team that produced Thrust SSC, has died aged 92. Thrust SSC reached 763.035mph (1,227.986km/h) on 15 October 1997. The fastest car in history 🇬🇧
@Carpervert
@AudiUK
....but, sadly it's yet another EV that will be unaffordable to the majority of buyers. We desperately need these affordable new EVs that we keep reading manufacturers are working on. Where are they all? A decent, sub 20k EV will sell like hot cakes
3d printed headlight mounting ring to replace the no longer available
@lotuscars
Elan M100 parts. Stainless inserts bonded in to take the M4 thread, screws waxed before installation to protect threads from glue filling.
@1888stevieB
Imagine going into a German take away, looking at the currywurst, gyros, frikadellen and deciding to go for fucking cheesy chips instead FFS.
@Bloodhound_LSR
I'm sure we'll all be really interested to see a plot of Speed vs time so we can see how the acceleration tails off as you get towards top speed
@aohereng
@Carpervert
another example of how 3d printing can keep old cars on the road. Broken TPS sensor for an Elan M100, parts no longer avalable, I designed a new replica housing &
@3dPrintDirectUK
printed.
One of our neighbours works for Suzuki & has a Jimny commercial parked on his drive, with steelies, just like this one. Frankly it looks bloody awesome.
