@We_Are_Toasted @kirklandprice11 @designengvinci @MattZeitlin That's my conclusion too. Over-all I think the labor markets are in an OK place

@AncientSquire @MattZeitlin I would assume the quality of survey response would be similar across time so it's valuable as a direct comparison to the same survey response throughout history.

@AncientSquire @MattZeitlin A participant in the labor force doesn't even have to work. Just actively seeking work

@kirklandprice11 @We_Are_Toasted @designengvinci @MattZeitlin Possibly some number are addicted to fent, or not stable enough in life to work. Possibly some are too wealthy and choose not to work, or stay at home domestic partner by choice. Some larger number of disability due to poor health

@kirklandprice11 @We_Are_Toasted @designengvinci @MattZeitlin You could do that, push more people into the labor market by requiring participation of some kind to collect SSDI. I'm unfamiliar with the rules of the program. I would think some abuse of the system happens but it's a trade off. Some just can't work and have no money.

@kirklandprice11 @We_Are_Toasted @designengvinci @MattZeitlin Wouldn't the removal from the labor force be voluntary? I think there are societal aspects to the why, but no one is being excluded from job opportunities by force. Maybe some amount is early retiring, some amount is domestic decision (stay at home parent), some dejected

@Zarya03631822 @designengvinci @MattZeitlin I'm seeing 89.0% for dec 2024 which is higher than the lows after the recession (say 2014). It's trending up too since the covid dip and had been trending up before covid too.

@designengvinci @MattZeitlin The labor force participation rate is a measure of total labor force (actively employed or looking for a job) divided by the total population. Therefore it would count people who are dejected or dropped out of the labor force.

@tylermacro10 @MattZeitlin You could drive people away from being able to retire early, have someone stay at home, or bring other non-participants into the labor force. It could go towards 100%, but it doesn't seem like a positive to me.
