Lots of hockey men are talking about big defensemen and solving their Tom Wilson problem and yet they can't stop 4'9", 13 y/o Cole Caufield from scoring. Like I think there are bigger problems at hand here.
Billy, this is Lane Hutson. He's the most dynamic defenseman in college hockey since Cale Makar. His only flaw is that he's 5-foot-10. He's worth a top 15 pick. We can have him at 62 overall.
I would expect to see Matthew Tkachuk reunite with his good friend Auston Matthews in Toronto in exchange for Alex Kerfoot and Justin Holl. I heard he is willing to take a two-year contract at $5.5 AAV.
It's just nuts to me that the Rangers got a hefty fine for saying Parros wasn't fit for his job and yet the Canadiens face no consequences for Friday night. Yes, the Canadiens did the wrong thing, but the league has accepted it.
We may be closing in on the point the owners can Bettman, no? Threatening to fine a team for a goaltender wanting to wear a mask in honor of his wife and her heritage is pretty low, even for this league.
Marc-Andre Fleury indicated he was planning to wear the mask anyway and pay the fine. The NHL then threatened the Wild organization with an additional significant fine.
If this player doesn't win the Selke, they should throw out the award. He has - by far - the highest C+/-60 RAPM since 2007 and the second highest xG+/-60 RAPM. Fifth in xGA60 and fourth in CA60 RAPM as well.
I don't know who needs to hear this but Craig Smith and Ondrej Kase are both better players than Mike Hoffman and their combined salaries are about what you're paying Hoffman on a one year deal.
I see some commentary surrounding this so I'll just make a blanket statement...
This should be a regular thing every fall! The Seattle media members have done a fantastic job here in helping grow the market and others should follow, even in established markets!
So, what are all those blue and red lines on the ice used for? And what do they have to do with Connor McDavid and Wayne Gretzky? Kraken fans, here’s your guide to offside and icing.

I don't like how teams copy others because copying mediocre teams that get lucky isn't a recipe for success, but Colorado has set out a blueprint for how to build an ORGANIZATION and not just a team.
The idea that Frederic's hit wasn't predatory is a joke. He literally ignores a loose puck in order to hit a player who is already tangled up with another player.
I really appreciate Dom doing this. I get that some may see this as him beating up on a smaller account, but these are two people running an account of 20k+ followers who are trying to sell a product. He's pretty respectfully pointing out concerns in a public forum (as he should)
I'd much rather "overpay" a 25 y/o Kevin Fiala to try to move into my window earlier than overpay a player that's older that's a UFA or just continue to wait for the window to open.
It's very weird to me how foreign the idea is for people around the NHL for a team to hire someone as a GM or AGM who isn't a hockey-lifer. While familiarity with the land is a plus, management and leadership skills are far more important for those roles.
When Patrice Bergeron signed his last contract, he signed for 10.7% of the cap. David Pastrnak signed for 8.9% of the cap. Brad Marchand signed for 8.4% of the cap. If Krug signs for an AAV of 7, it would be 8.3% of the cap.
A couple of years back,

set up a second account dedicated to the website and had me take it over. It's finally surpassed their personal following. My impact 💙
Here's my situation:
My friends invited me to a bar to watch the Bruins game. I didn't want to say no, but I don't want to delay my entry and exit tracking. So I am bringing my laptop to the bar. This is the nerdiest thing I've ever done. Will keep everyone updated.
Top 10 Bruins of the decade:
1. Patrice Bergeron
2. David Pastrnak
3. Brad Marchand
4. Zdeno Chara
5. Torey Krug
6. Tyler Seguin
7. David Krejci
8. Milan Lucic
9. Loui Eriksson
10. Dougie Hamilton
Honorable mentions: Horton, DeBrusk, McAvoy
Andrei Vasilevskiy leads the goaltenders pack, but will he win the Vezina Trophy for the second straight season?

Asked Bruce Cassidy about the collaborative partnership between a team's analytics department and its coaching staff.
Pretty insightful stuff from Cassidy about how they utilize that data.
The hot takes that come from the playoffs are a great example of how people can't accept randomness. Trust the process is a meme because sometimes your process is actually suboptimal, but wildly changing your process based on a playoff series is irrational.
The whole "There's no way for a player to withdraw from the draft," misses the forest from the trees imo. At the least, it's a PR nightmare for the NHL and their new stakeholders (ESPN and TNT) and yet they don't even give a shit about that.
If you were to summarize some core concepts from the Avs
1. Identify low-risk, undervalued players (Nichushkin, Burakovsky, Wilson)
2. Spend money wisely and understand the cyclical nature of the cap
3. Hire a coach that empowers its players
You can be an intimidator within the bounds of the game, Josh Anderson does it just fine. If you have to resort to violence outside of the bounds of the game with stuff that would get you arrested on the street, you don't deserve to play at the highest level.
I could try to mess around with this, but I think it perfectly illustrates the impact William Nylander had in the first round. The

held the

to a 25% controlled entry efficiency, with Nylander being the only one able to crack the code.
Was talking with someone about the Andrew Peeke transaction last night who was baffled at how bad his numbers were in Columbus.
In his last 103 games in Columbus:
CF% - 42.7%
xGF% - 41.1%
In 9 games with Boston:
CF% - 48.1%
xGF% - 61.2%
Rasmus Sandin's game-by-game 5v5 shot attempt differential this season:
+13, +4, +7, +10, +4, 0, +5, 0, +9, +11, +7
Only player in the league with a greater shot differential is William Nylander at +71.
Her name has never really been brought up, but I think of someone like Alison Lukan who has a background in leadership and communication. She's run companies before and has the ability to identify staff members who are smart in particular areas to build a great management team.
Dom Luszczyszyn inventing the numbers negative and positive zero is one of the best things that has happened to the Canadian world since the invention of ketchup chips.
You should be able to trade cap space in the NHL, but it should work out something like tax equity financing where the investor gets their money back plus an IRR. Maybe that's too complicated?
I have some thoughts on game-level stats, especially expected goals. I obviously post these charts the

account, and when I watch the games, sometimes I disagree with the picture a bit.
This goal had an xG value of 5.4% so let's talk about it.
I wonder if it bothers Dom that while this may be the second greatest day on Hockey Twitter, nothing will match
@EvolvingWild
announcing themselves as twins.
I guess my only comment on the Morgan Rielly incident is that it's incredibly embarrassing that Sheldon Keefe said that it was appropriate. Hold your players accountable dude.
Alison is more than just the best writer in hockey. She is extremely knowledgeable and has a lot to offer in communication and leadership, but most importantly she is a mentor to so many people.
I don't know if this necessarily needs an announcement, but I have taken a full time job outside of hockey that I think I will enjoy. On top of that, I am continuing my MBA part time, so my time to write about hockey will be significantly less.
The average PDO of a Stanley Cup champion is 101.4. The highest ever is 104.8 by the 2011 Bruins.
Vegas is at 106.9.
Analyzing the Golden Knights unprecedented level of good fortune in these playoffs:
I find it funny how people perceive defense as something done in the defensive zone when the vast majority of defensive plays and habits occur in the offensive and neutral zone.
I feel as though we were pretty ahead of things in Hamilton (Michael Andlauer owns said team) as it came to analytics and thinking forward when I was there. And if he brings Steve Staios to Ottawa (GM and President of Hamilton), that'd be a nice fit.
It's honestly alright to criticize Rask for leaving, as long as you acknowledge his right to leave and your lack of knowledge about the situation. But piling on with complete speculation is too much.
