@chriswardmp @LucyMPowell Tip for the top from someone for whom the phrase "when parliamentary time allows" became my friend: - "I hope that probably..." isn't a confirmation and probably not later *this* year

@TeatsVinegar I agree about civil service reform but legislation is easier to programme by the politicians, assuming they have a deliverable programme in the first place.

@matilda__martin @politicshome @sophiealichurch Helps if they have something to vote on. MPs knocked off early yesterday again and have had 1 line whips every Monday this year so far.

@bearz1066 @geshNHS The two MPs in Sutton were simply supporting the scheme put forward and championed by the local clinicians. Looks like we're heading back to the position of ignoring the people who know something about acute healthcare.

@the_fukaa Agreed although I'm not sure those 3 metrics are being met across Europe at the moment.

Vital that the wrecking ball within the Children's Wellbeing & Schools Bill articulated clearly here by my former neighbour @Siobhain_Mc, doesn't get forgotten about among the heated (and crucial) arguments about grooming gangs and the safeguarding of children
When I was elected in 1997, two schools in my constituency were in the bottom performing 5% of schools in London. Today, we have three academies, all of which are Ofsted rated outstanding. We should not put this process of converting failing schools into academies at risk.

This is why the Indo-Pacific tilt started by the last government and reaffirmed by this one is so important. 19th Century belonged to UK, 20th to USA, 21st will continue to be the century where the Asian economies thrive
One out of every 4 people in the world lives in India and its neighbourhood. We are the fastest growing. We have the youngest population. And 800 million people are about to become middle class, leading to an explosion in demand. Next to us is East Asia, also very dynamic. Together, we are half of the world. The future is in Asia. India will lead it. Let us seize the opportunity.

@alexhrbfc @afneil I think that depends on which side of the debate you're on. I can't remember many newspapers being that sympathetic to the sitting government over the last few years. But of course many supported a different flavour of right wing politics than was being offered at the time

@biffboff75 @afneil I was interviewed by @afneil a few times. He was always fair. The depth of his roasting was commensurate with your seniority or whether the subject matter was directly in your hands, as opposed to another part of govt or the PM directly.

@biffboff75 @TeapotNPC @afneil I prefer to be part of a longer interview/podcast. Suits my style of trying to explain and inform. But the shorter form is important when done well to highlight gaps in the politicians own short form, ie spin and slogans.

@biffboff75 @afneil There were so many 'families' in the last government it would have been pretty difficult for the papers to have had one Conservative approach in their interviews!
