I really want to continue to be a French car apologist despite all the problems they’ve caused me but I might actually have to draw the line at plastic screws that disintegrate when you need to replace a turn signal
I wish I could speak Spanish so I could reply to more of the comments I've gotten over the last couple days. There's no real story to the Twingo besides "I wanted one so I bought one and brought it here" but I appreciate all the love (or hate, I can't actually tell)
Really appreciate everyone who has reached out to me with even potential spottings over the last year and a half. It turns out the people who thought they saw it with the roof painted black were actually correct.
Hey everyone! The car was just spotted for the first time in two months around Port Orchard on 16 going east. Hood and hardtop are now spraypainted flat black.
hi everyone I need your help!!! the Honda Beat I just drove THIS WEEK was stolen out of a driveway in the SeaTac/Tukwila area in Seattle and we’re currently trying to find it, any help would be appreciated!!! WA license BWG3102, factory hardtop, slightly faded yellow paint
This thing really deserves better than a shitty phone photo but I just can’t resist anymore. This may very well be the most insane thing I’ve ever bought.
Mustang era begins today.
@PostalDog94
Yeah it’s completely insane! I honestly wish I could sit down and have a conversation with whoever had this thing for the last year and a half.
To all of the brain damaged children commenting “just fix it bro”: I got paid out by insurance for it and it is not legally my car anymore. It will likely go to auction. Maybe I’ll bid on it. Maybe one of you can bid on it! But please stfu if you don’t know how this process works
There’s a guy in my neighborhood with a laforza and naturally five minutes after I get home he has stopped by to admire it. Life is surreal. And now I have more car friends!
The support I’ve gotten trying to find this car is overwhelming and I love you all. It’s worth holding out a little hope.
This car is worth a great deal to me, and I’m more than happy to discuss a reward for any info leading to its recovery.
There’s not a straight body panel left. The whole side of the car is damaged, not just the door. The interior is partly stripped and totally trashed and sat with no rear window. Didnt try starting but there was no coolant left. Don’t underestimate how much of a project this is.
I’ve concluded that out of all the terrible modern vehicle trends that I currently despise, the modern iteration of “restomod” is by far the worst. Go search it on Craigslist or marketplace for the most awful garbage you’ve ever seen.
In the last 24 hours I’ve driven a 68 mustang, 70 220D, and the Twingo. At various points I’ve felt they were all the best car ever for various different reasons. I’m incredibly grateful that I get to actually enjoy all of them as much as I want.
Full disclosure that I’ve already taken the insurance money for it, but I’d still love to see it recovered (and maybe have the chance to buy it back? Not sure how that works). Wild to finally hear more news on it.
Since everyone has been asking what the Beat is getting replaced with - this is what I spent the insurance money on. This is merely a piece of a longer term plan though, it may not be around long.
The Beat has been one of my lifelong dream cars. I clung to some tiny amount of hope that someday I'd drive one and it wouldn't be as good as I expected it to be.
It was better.
I had no choice. Welcome to the family.
People always act surprised when I tell them I daily an S2000 when in reality it is the most practical car in existence for a single dude. Does your car have a cat food cubby? Didn't think so.
Accidentally time travelled to the 80s and shot a Mercedes advertisement in the alps last weekend.
(Not really though, Washington is beautiful, and good cars are good)
Can we collectively agree to take back the phrase "bring a trailer" to mean "I am selling a shitbox that barely runs" instead of "website used to destroy the used car market"?
Capped off a pretty solid stinky car weekend having a nice chat about stinky cars with a guy driving an Austin Allegro who pulled in behind me at the gas station. I will absolutely never stop enjoying the surreal ridiculousness of my life out here. I love it.
I think I’m going to keep the moss growing in my W123 because it’s way fucking funnier. I’m not gonna lie I actually kinda like how this thing drives since I’ve gotten it going again but these cars absolutely do not deserved to be worshipped the way internet weirdos do
Google maps should have a “shitbox mode” where you punch in the maximum speed you’re comfortable driving the horrible old car you’re taking cross country and it evaluates your route based on that instead of actual speed limits.
Anyone who has called me an insufferable hipster in the past hasn't even seen me at my "taking pictures of my diesel Mercedes wagon on expired film with a Rolleiflex" peak.
Hey everyone, this car is still missing! It was spotted FIVE times yesterday around West Seattle and White Center between 11AM-3PM. With enough eyes out I know we can find it this weekend.
stolen Beat last spotted in Alki, if anyone is around there and sees an old yellow Honda Beat driving around let either me or
@rusty_speednut
know exactly where you saw it!!!
First photo sighting of the Beat in the wild. Unfortunately not real fresh info - Westwood PO on Friday. They were trying to break into a mail truck. Normal thief confirmed I guess.
Assuming car has probably been ditched somewhere hidden/sketchy.
@willicoyote11
It's not that exciting of a story haha. I have a friend who lives outside of Barcelona who was able to buy the car in Murcia for me and de-register it for export. Then it was shipped to a port near San Francisco where I picked it up and drove it to Seattle.
Hey Seattle folks, please keep a lookout for my Jeep. It was stolen from out front of Airways Taproom in Kent last night. It looks good in photos but it has some pretty distinct clearcoat peel/paint fade. License plate CAS1498. Please contact me or the police. Thanks.
Never in human history has anyone created worse looking emojis than the current generation on Teams. I have all but stopped using them at work because this shit weirds me out every time I have to look at it.
I got a massive raise yesterday and today I worked 12 hours troubleshooting an issue that I would have said "meh, fuck it" to earlier this week. I dunno why this concept is hard for some companies. Appreciate your employees and they'll do better work.
In all of my years looking at cars on Craigslist, I have never seen someone photoshop in a spare tire before. What in the absolute cursed fuck. Who does this?
Kind of funny that while I was on the road trip immediately following my decision to quit photography, little did I realize as I was trying to finish the roll of film already in my camera I was actually taking some of my favorite photos I've ever taken
Volvo's advertising was pretty brilliant back in the day, but in the hindsight of 2021, all of these cars are now solidly worth 10-100x what a P1800 is 🙃
