A community award and a Blue Peter badge in one week! Lovely way to end this half term. So nice that parents have recognised the efforts in the library to improve literacy for all our children.
My husband isn't the romantic sort. Doesn't buy me boxes of chocolates and stuff. But he does go to the market early in the morning during mango season to get me fresh mangoes. What more could I ask for ?
My beautiful mum passed away yesterday morning. It was a Friday and she died peacefully in her sleep. It was just before Fajr (dawn) prayer. We believe this is a sign that she will inshaAllah (God willing) be a woman of paradise. This gives me some peace.....
What a heartless call handler. I don't care if I get a backlash for this, but I'm telling you now the fact that Raneem had an accent made her case less urgent to that call handler. That's why there's a complete lack of empathy in her words and tone. Absolutely heartless.
Multiple failures by West Midlands Police officers "materially contributed" to the deaths of a woman and her mother, an inquest found.
Raneem Oudeh made a desperate 999 call before being murdered by her estranged husband
@BarrowfordHead
What a beautiful thing you've done. Thank you. You have no idea how important this is for me as a mother to see. If my child chose to pray at school, I would hope they would be allowed to do so and made to feel welcome in the way you have ❤
@bg_bookclub
No. It doesn't work like that. We can't fear the boys taking penalties because of a backlash from racists. Southgate of all ppl knows the pain of missing a penalty. He would have picked the ones who were confident and the ones who'd taken them well in training. That's how it is.
Another beautiful night sky but this time it's the view from the hospital.
Perfect night for the day a star was born.
Today we welcomed our gorgeous baby Najma Maryam into the world. MashaAllah. She made us wait but it was oh so worth it.
Last night at the

@KarlNova
announced us winners and I got to meet the amazing

too.
What a wonderful evening of celebrating the work of school librarians.
@Sefa_English
Pastoral care, hairdressing, what other roles do you take on in the name of teaching?
You've done a fab job. It will have given her the confidence to carry on today. ❤
@Mr_H1978
Aww Mumin. This is so beautiful. What a wonderful man Clive was. We had a Barbara who ran the corner shop and was there for my stepmum when no one else was. So, I very much relate to this thread. There are so many kind, good people out there. Thank you for reminding us of that.
@VashtiHarrison
I remember the first time I got asked "what are you?" was when I started school in Birmingham, aged 14. I had just come back from spending the summer in Bangladesh and was significantly tanned. My response was A human? A girl? Earthling?
I've refrained from tweeting about this all day, but I have to say it. If he was the perpetrator Black, Somali, Muslim murderer/gangster/terrorist would be everywhere. This man is a HERO! Say it!
😢💔🤲🏽
The snow just comes and goes in Brum. We haven't had proper snow since N was a year old. She has literally been praying for snow all year...this will be the highlight of her life 😂
I'm sorry, what?
"Culture" Day but no abayas or thobes allowed.
No, it makes sense all cultures are allowed but if you're culture is based around Islamic faith, its not okay?
An Islamaphobic letter has been distributed by
@MSGreenCollege
banning muslim religious clothing for a school day. We need to ensure our schools are inclusive of our community. Why is Rushanara silent on the school banning Muslim expressions of their students?
@MPSHackney
@MartinBarrow
Please don't tell me these officers are still holding their positions when they have already abused this school girl! Your statement is very calm considering the details that have been released. I'm sickened to think such people hold positions of power and abuse it in this way 😡
My 9 yr old has been working on her illustrations in between lessons today. This is the first time I've seen her draw a black character. Everyone who is working to increase diversity in books, and given my child the confidence to do this, I applaud you. 👏🏾❤

So this year 6 child just made my day "I really hope that my secondary school has a library and someone as kind as you running it" 🥺 🥰 That's all the validation I need.

The Muslim story of the birth of Jesus 🧵:
Jesus name in Arabic is Isa (peace be upon him) He is mentioned nearly 100 times in the Quran (more times than Muhammad (pbuh) who is mentioned 5 times by name) Most often he is named as Isa ibn Maryam (Jesus son of Mary)...
After that awful rt about that ridiculous maths lesson, I just wanted to highlight something really positive. Look at this response to an islamophobic customer 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 from HYGGE Sheffield
Ramadan Mubarak to you all. Whether you are starting tomorrow or Wednesday, I hope it is full of blessings for you and your family. ❤
I will be taking a break for Ramadan, so you won't see me on here as much for the next 30 days. Xx

Especially for children who may have this as their first images of Muslims. It immediately makes them think these people are all bad, unfriendly, scary -different!
If you consistently give certificates & rewards to children who don't normally behave well just because they've managed to stay out of trouble, please stop. It isn't fair to the children who consistently follow the rules. Oh and your students may not say anything but they notice.

My hijab does not define me
I wear it with pride
A symbol of my love
Not something I will hide
I will wear it despite
What you may think
Because you have no right
To police my choices
Hijab is not a crime
Hijab is my crown

You really need to look into the history. You need to understand the level of control that the Israelis have over the Palestinian people. They are not free to go to school, get medical help or even have clean water in Gaza. Having the entirety of Gaza is of what benefit?
@wworrywort
May Allah have mercy on her. She continued to strive for Ilm in such a time. I weep with shame at myself and for those who just want the normal lives that we so take foe granted.
In Bengali culture, we have a tradition where we take "istaari" to the daughter after she gets married. This is done once during Ramadan and once when there is plenty of fresh fruit available. My husband's family are all in Bangladesh so today we sent istaari to his sister.
Eid Mubarak Everyone!
Wishing all my twitter fam a beautiful and joyous Eid.
To all those not celebrating have a fab Bank holiday.
Excess food at mine -no one can eat as they're used to fasting! 🙈
And seriously, I have extra food if you want to come and pick up!
My husband likes to eat Turkish Delights. After 15 and a half years of marriage he still comes home every now and again with a big box behind his back and says "look what I got you....." Does he not realise that I know he's bought them for himself 🤦🏾♀️
@EsheruKwaku
Unbelievable. Looking more and more like a police state over there.
"When a cop tells you to do something, you do it"
Er no, cops are meant to abide by rules and regulations too! 😡
All the places I've prayed:
At school
At work
In the park
On the beach
At a service station
A car park at a safari park/in a shopping centre
Airport waiting lounge
On an aeroplane
At schools I've visited
In a publishing house
Never has it adversely affected anyone but me.

Can we all start with buying Ruby Hamad's, White Tears, Brown Scars. It will open your eyes to things that you see daily but don't recognise for what it is. And then show these amazing women some solidarity by buying their books.

If this is in relation to Clanchy I suggest that everyone who can afford it buys books that are not by her and her groupies. There are a group of WoC writers subject to extreme systemic bullying today and they need our support.

Yes Biff and Wilfhavebeento plentyof strange places with the magic key. I remember someone thebooks asclearas day. There arebooks set in the Wild west -but I don't recall them saying this is scary and people aren't friendly. It's depicted like this for a reason. Author bias.

Sending so much love.
It's triggered me because my mum was failed. No diagnosis was reached until she got a secondary cancer. They never found out what the primary cancer was. Her pains were ignored for months and months.
It was too late to start treatment.
Remembering this story teller from Gaza today as I read to various classes.
This is the power of storytelling. The power to help you heal and to lose yourself, to forget where you are and enter a new world.
Reading is a superpower.

Walking home from the school run earlier and listening to a conversation about books between two siblings.
Child 1: Do you know what books are?
Child 2: Yeees
Child 1: Well basically every book is a remix of the dictionary if you think about it
😂
Huge thanks to
@dsheadexec
for nominating me and always supporting my work. And an even bigger thank you to the children
@FirsPrimary
who have been the driving force behind everything I do.
After seeing that horrible story yesterday, I wanted to post something positive. So, I'm sharing this gorgeous pic of my niece and her BFs at daycare in Australia. -This is a genuine pic by the way. These are her friends. Girls of all ethnicities, who love to play together❤
I feel like I'm just jumping on some weird bandwagon. But me and 2 of the kids have tested positive. Just when I was planning to hit Waterstones to pick up the half price hardbacks tomorrow 😫
Hi
@WorldBookDayUK
the current genocide in Gaza has led to more children being killed in the past 4 months than deaths in ALL world conflicts in the past 4 years!
Please read that again & let that sink in.
Why is it so hard to stand in solidarity with the Gazan children?
World Book Day stands in solidarity with the people and children of Ukraine. This year we hope World Book Day brings joy and hope at a time when children need it most:
It's

time. If any of my brothers and sisters are awake, please make a dua for me as I am currently in hospital with an infection and in a lot of pain. Duas for shifa please.
The youngest has wanted a piñata for ages. So, we had one for this Eid. She hasn't been well at all, but she had a short lived moment of fun smashing this with her dad.
Thank you to everyone who sent Eid wishes. I hope everyone celebrating had a wonderful day. 💖💫

Personally, I wouldnt want anything to do with labour but credit where credit's due, she is using her position to advocate for change. I don't think she would have won her seat as an independent and she knows that which is why she's played it the way she has.
Trying my best not to post anything political right now because it is SO infuriating. So here is a cute gift I received from the wonderful

You are a history teacher. And this is what frustrates me the most. Do you actually think this started at the beginning of October 2023? Do you have no idea how Israel has treated the Palestinians for the past 75 years? Do you understand colonialism?
Some parents will never be happy with their kids. No matter what they turn out like.
Please don't be that parent.

It is absolutely down to them. Yes there is a hierarchy in place. Police need to be held accountable first and foremost but school staff have a duty of care to your pupils. What were the safeguarding leads doing? How did they allow this to happen?!
Just received the illustrated version of

and it is beautiful in every way. Having read the book for older children and watched the series, I know how important these little known stories are. So important to have this in all schools.
Thank you

They missed the memo about lowering their gaze and minding their own business. Also if the image is so unsavoury....why are they quote tweeting it????
My little one has a fascination with the night sky, so we bought her a telescope for Eid. So much excitement as it's the first clear sky tonight AND it's a full moon.
She's channelling her inner Rocket. She's getting us all to Look Up! more 😇

When a Y6 child comes in and says "You're the only teacher I'm going to miss when I leave this school" and then rushes back out because he's teary 😳 I was not expecting that this morning.
@DistinCray_
This guy 🙈 my kids watch him. But he did create watermelon wars on Fortnite and is teaching the younger generation and exposing the Genocidal intent of Israelis.
@KwajoHousing
Oh this is terrible! Solidarity to the Nigerian sisters from this British Bangladeshi. I'm so sorry that they are putting you through this -it's absolutely disgraceful! Unfortunately there is a lot of racism against Black ppl amongst many Bangladeshis 😕 😠
This book is too funny. I've been reading a chapter or two every night to Nusaibah and she has absolutely loved it. Relatable characters, a mystery at the mosque and the great humour we've come to expect from
@Zendibble
Also very informative for non Muslim readers.

Its surprising how much a child can grow in confidence. Today, my gorgeous 4 yr old took the step to whisper to her teachers. Her nursery teacher was chuffed with her confidence. She even got Star of the Day. She hasn't stopped talking about school all day. So proud.
This book is simply gorgeous. I feel quite teary reading it... The words are empowering yet sentimental. And the illustrations are filled with love and warmth. It fully appreciates the character's culture and ancestry. One of the most beautiful picture books I've come across.
That was a fun afternoon. We made her den then she sat and read to her companion. She practically knows it word for word now. She even tells her kitty who the author and illustrator are. This is the perfect book for

My time as a Carnegie judge has come to an end.
It's not been easy, but has been incredibly fun. So grateful for all the wonderful ppl that I have crossed paths with thanks to these Awards.
Thank you to fellow judge Amanda for this beautiful gift commemorating this year.

Sad to have to say goodbye to all the children, families and staff
@FirsPrimary
Overwhelmed with all the love and kindness you have shown me today. Thank you to everyone.
Feeling so proud & rather teary -Y5 boy came in to borrow the Undefeated. He explained how much he loved the pics & language used and how it made him realise how wrong racism is. He then recited parts of it to me. He wants to learn more by heart ❤
#BlackHistoryMonth
So my sister's friend just got in touch with me on IG. I have no idea how she found me as I use this avatar, have no pics and my name is exhausted mum of four. But I haven't stopped crying since she messaged. The last time I spoke to her was on the day of my sister's funeral.
@ScottPughsley
Babe....or even worse...hun
I realise this is very controversial as nearly every female under the age of 40 seems to use this as an endearing term, but I hate it!
There's Christmas Jumper Day, and then there's CHRISTMAS JUMPER DAY! Fantastic effort from A (and Mum) in EYFS. Thank you to everyone who has made a small donation.
This book is SUCH a fun read! I feel its going to be a modern classic. Reception loved it. As did the children at lunchtime. The prepositional language and the imaginative illustrations makes it perfect for EYFS.
It's one where listeners can join in & everyone recites together.
@MissHalley_mfl
My son screwed up a piece of paper and *he says* he tried to get it in the bin but it hit the teacher. The teacher complained, SLT called me. I was horrified. I made him write a letter of apology.
That was a piece of paper. If he threw a bottle? I'd be livid and so should SLT!
Excellent explanation of what White Privilege *actually* is and why it's utter nonsense to suggest that using the term should lead you to be referred to PREVENT.
Those of you following the threads regarding the book that depicted an Arab/Muslim market, in a Magic Key book as unfriendly yesterday, this is the book concerned. Full story on YT here.
I wouldn't want this to be used in schools. What do others think?
Me: Can you notice the difference between those 2 ducks? I wonder why that one's green and that one's brown.
4 yr old: Let me explain, in the worrrrld EVERYONE is different. It doesn't matter if you have a different colour hair or whatever. It's good to be different you know.
😂
His final miracle will be to return to earth before the Day of Judgement.
I hope you enjoyed the thread and have learnt something new about the importance of Prophet Jesus in Islam.
We had a lovely supply at school today. I saw her in Reception & she had the whole class hooked. After lunch she came to the library with Y1 and was so supportive. (She was in awe of the library -the fact that we had one!)
Just wanted to say supply teachers do an amazing job.
So sad to hear of the passing of Benjamin Zephaniah. A man who always spoke truth to power. Such an inspiration for so many of us.
Read his works. Remember his messages. And learn from his actions.
