My personal gripe with the film is that the whole thing isn't interpreted as toxic by ANY of the characters in the entire film. His family stays cool with Oliver, they know that's happening and just let it happen. It's just kinda grimy when only the audience is aware of toxicity.

The problem is that the only thing he's responsible for as the director is the designs of the cgi villains and obviously the way they interact with others. The VFX team completely handles the quality of the cgi renders. If anything this shows the VFX team should be commended.
