my bf went through this. i dont think people realize how much this affects daily life. we couldn't move because we couldnt sign a year lease because we didnt know if he'd have to leave. we couldn't get big furniture in case we'd have to move countries. it was terrible

he was also a mountain rescue guy (not a glacier rescue guy) but knew the glacier ranger guys & told them the situation so they knew not to let the guys back on the glacier. this was a multi-day hike they were planning to attempt. you need picks to stop yourself if you fall.
