Heyy I'm Sylvette Rosario, a 3D character artist based in Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 with 6 years of xp~ I usually work with stylized characters, and I'm looking for new remote opportunities in game dev ✨️
Feel free to share your art on this thread so I can repost!

1/2 Please stop telling people who wanna break into the industry to do so through QA. 1st, QA is not just playtesting, there's a lot more to it. 2nd, QA is one of the most disrespected and underappreciated dept. Most layoffs affect QA. This is no longer good advice. Now, I'm
I summon women in game dev (even better if you're students), especially if you come from a marginalized demographic.
What did you wish you knew about this industry that would've been helpful? Also, what would be some advice you'd share with other fellow women in dev?
When a 3d artist says "I want to sculpt your concept"
What we really mean is "I love you and your work, you're an angel sent from the heavens to bless me with your skills, and I would commit federal crimes against anyone that dare hurt you."
...or maybe that's just me idk
Eyy I'm Sylvette from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 I've been a 3D Character Artist in Gladius Studios for the past 4 years! I've mostly worked on animation based commercial projects but I absolutely love it when I get to work on VR and AR games and experiences ✨️
#WhatAGameDevLooksLike
1/4 🧵 Friendly reminder:
Not every one that hung out around Yerba Buena for GDC had a pass. Many devs (probably most of them unemployed) either drove, got into some sort of credit card debt, or gathered any kind of savings left in order to get there and network.
The studio I work in is reinstating remote work :'D this means that I will have time and energy to stream again~ I was working on site when I started, but I began burning out a bit too quickly, so I opted to take a break. But I'm excited to get back at it soon~
Heyy I'm Sylvette, a neurodivergent Puerto Rican 🇵🇷
#CharacterArtist
, I've been working at a local studio for 5 years now, which specializes mostly in animated commercials and AR/VR experiences. Plus, I also do some freelancing on the side~ This is also
#WhatAGameDevLooksLike
2/2 not saying no one should pursue QA, cause games NEED them as they are a crucial part of the development and even after ship. It's one way to break into the industry, but not the *only* way. So pls do better and be more mindful of the state of the industry when giving advice.
I think that the best thing I can say is don't stay where you're not valued.
Passion can only fuel you for so long, but in the end, you'll burn out, and there will barely be anything left of you.

Ever since I was little, I've been doing art and self-taught during most of my youth. With patience, practice, and good mentors, I've been able to polish my skills and continue to hone them every day. Any moment I dedicate to my craft is a moment I become a better artist ♡
Hey YOU yes you👀

Today, it marks my 6th anniversary working in the studio. I improved and learned new skills, survived a lay-off, we unionized our studio, and are currently negotiating our contract proposals. It's been a roller-coaster, to say the least.
I wonder what this year will bring~
Little bit of a work in progress from what me and some friends have been working on~ froggy model made by me, character design and animations made by ♡ last Tuesday's stream, I was working on his topology~

QRT with a work you are proud of!
Oh it’s a toss up between these two. Left was a year in the making, different ref gathering trips, lots of work- right was also a lot of work, but more free form and felt liberating to do.
It's time to find other alternatives that aren't AAA Studios. It's gonna be tough, but we can't see those big corpos as our end goal anymore since clearly they aren't as stable as we thought.
Legit, good luck to the thousands of game devs that join the industry every year that now have to fight with the thousands of devs with 10 years of experience who got laid off just this month
@palomamcclain
The irony is that people would normally aim for those studios *because* they were more financially "stable" than indies. It seems that is no longer the case, and if anything, indies (not all tho) have become the more sustainable alternative.
I feel like I need to clarify once again, it's NOT bad at all to start with QA. I just want to encourage people to see QA as more than just a stepping stone. Plus, with so many of them being laid off, it won't be as easy to "break in" as some make it seem.
So recently, I hit 400 follows! So to re-intro myself to the newer ones: I'm a 3d -character- artist from Puerto Rico, and I've been working at a local studio for over 5 years. I love doing fantasy characters but also stylized sculpts~

I forgot to post this yesterday, but here we go 😅
Woooo! Thank you so much
@LatinosinGaming
for this grant! I also want to appreciate all you're doing for this community. I hope more people keep supporting you and your causes.
And congrats to the other winners too! Que lo aprovechen 🎉🎉🎉
Exciting news!
Thrilled to announce our Grants 3.0 Initiative winners! Congrats to the talented winners receiving grants for career empowerment from education to equipment upgrades and more. Your passion and dedication inspire us all. Excited to see your impact in our industry!
We had a productive panel! So much insight and good advice was shared by our local devs, and it was encouraging to see that people had so many questions and an interest in game dev ✨️
@MichaelG_3D
Yes! BUT instead of just describing your job, try listing how you developed your soft skills there. I worked at McDonalds before my current job, so one of the things I listed was: "Provided unsatisfied customers with alternatives that could solve their conflict." -problem solving
Okay, let's go! Let's balance the scales. Retweet and name your favourite game devs who you believe have had an impact on the industry - the only requirement is they are not male. Tag them if you can let them know you appreciate their work.
@MLPcampos
Idk what he thinks strength is because, to me, Kratos' entire arc of redemption is the embodiment of it. Choosing peace when you're full of anger and used to violence is no easy feat. Wanting to right his wrongs, holding himself accountable of his actions, it takes strength.
Give us Puerto Ricans the chance to work from our homeland without having to relocate. Not all of us want to leave our friends and families, not all of us are willing to take financial risks for jobs that might not even pay us enough to afford the cost of living.
#gamedev
It's heartbreaking to see roles I'd love to apply to but require relocating to a VERY expensive city, even worse when there's been layoffs from said studio before.
I'd love to work at a full-time game studio, but on-site/hybrid work would be so unsustainable and risky for me 💔
4/4 Please, be kind to each other. Don't assume what you don't know, because really we have no idea what's going on below the surface. This is definitely not the time to turn against each other over something so trivial. Love you guys, stay awesome and stay together.
2/4 There are also quite a decent number of scholarships, especially for underrepresented minorities that provided stipends and/or covered traveling expenses. Don't automatically assume someone is there because they can afford it. 2/4
Everything's still a mess, but my workstation is neat~
I do plan on painting over those walls. Gonna aim for a lighter color to bring some light into that room since it's naturally a bit dark.
@Evanylaaa
To avoid feeling overwhelmed and abandoning your piece midway, break down your piece into smaller tasks, and tackle each task individually in order of priority. Also, to make sure the level of detail remains consistent throughout, try not to stay on a single task too long.
I speak as a Puerto Rican now. This movie was not only a love letter to spidey fans and animation, but also to my culture and my people here on the island and those in the diáspora. I am so grateful for being alive in the timeline where amazing artists conceived this movie 💖
I kept working on Ezri since I want to have an updated version of her for portfolioday 👀 I detailed the horns, did the clothing holes, and already marked where her tattoos should go. Still missing some things, but she's getting there!
3/4 In 2022, I was able to go to GDC, although I earn minimum wage in PR, only thanks to
@prgamedevs
for choosing me as a scholar, and for sponsors donating money to give us stipends.
@corapiki
also covered so many expenses for us and she's an angel for that.
6 years ago vs. now
The only things that changed are my eyebrows (they are microbladed now), and my hair 😅 also, don't be fooled by my smile in the before one.
As a hispanic/latine 🇵🇷, a great way for game studios to actually celebrate and acknowledge us is to begin providing opportunities for latines outside the US without having to rip them away from their homes and families.

I won't lie. There are many times when I just want to throw the towel and make some risky moves. The only thing stopping me is the current state of this industry and a partial sense of 'security'.
I want to keep moving forward, but I feel anchored.

Before and after working on the gauntlets' armor during tonight's stream~ I struggled a bit at first since I insisted on keeping clean topology, but went the high-poly dynamesh route to not stay stuck on them.

After graduating almost 6 years ago, I finally hung this damn thing. A reminder to myself that even though I was at my worst and thought of quitting many times, I made it. On top of that, it was thanks to it that I got my current job ♡
So excited that I got to work on my stream set up again! I plan to replace the overlays soon but thankfully I didn't lose my old ones! Funny that no matter what I do, you can still hear choquís in the background whenever I speak 😅

This is one of the many reasons why Procreate is the superior art app for me. The only downside being its exclusiveness to apple, idk if that has or will change tho.
