The best animation from the past took outside influences and lived perspectives, blended them up to make unique things. That is still where the best comes from. What’s changed is who is making it and what is special to them.
It's Centaurworld's birthday! I was so honored to be able to come on to this show early and prepare character guides before boards even started. Here's the first anatomy breakdown I made for Horse, needless to say I took my job seriously.
So for Mobile Suit Gundam's 40th anniversary, I'm thinking about doing a series of paintings of the various Gundams throughout its history. Of course I had to start with the grandfather of them all, the RX-78-2.

shows in Nashville and Indianapolis last weekend! They were only available there so if you didn't get one there, you're plum out of luck!
People my age and younger didn’t grow up all consuming the same things. The world got much bigger and more segmented. Expect what new directors make to be just as specialized. The best of them will make you appreciate what you missed.
I think a lot of non-artists see overly rendered, effects-heavy art as what mature finished art looks like. I see a lot of good work labeled as a "sketch."Normalize that "rough" looking art can be final.
when people are all prissy about using refs like “i only draw from my mind” draw a horse from your mind right now. i want to see it. show me the mind horse. show it to me. now. i want to see. this has ceased to be about any larger artistic debate i just have to see the mind horse
There's a head pose that's used all the time in animation between Front and 3/4 that I've come to call the Common Camera (though it probably has another name). Here's the method I've found for putting one together quickly and accurately!
Hi, if you're storyboarding a thing and it has a shot of a real landmark, sculpture, or building. Please just go ahead and remove it now before the design team draws and paints it and then has to emergency replace it at the end of production because legal clearance takes forever!
Remember, if you have work in your portfolio in a style you absolutely don't want work in again or that you've moved on from, go ahead and take it out of your portfolio.

I'm gonna try doing one Gundam per day (ish). Starting with baby grandpa himself! I'll do them in a random order so feel free to suggest the next, not super obscure Gundam.
Goodbye drinks with the Glitch Techs crew. We’re still a little baffled. Stay tuned for it in the future and give it a watch for us. I drew this pose of our two main characters a while back and I love seeing everyone add their own sketches.
I don't think the general animation public knows how much time we spend thinking of ways to make designs simpler/obscure BG objects so we don't have to draw them.
Tomorrow's my last day at WB, but I'm excited to line up my next show! I'd love to do Character or Prop design, gimme some cars to draw! Here's some old non-NDA work, but I've got like 2 years of cool stuff I can't show yet.
I had so much with these evil guys. The only note was that they needed to be scary. I rarely ever get to design monsters from the ground up on shows so I just kinda went for it. This isn't the last of them...
Here they are, all 139 Gundams. This is NOT the final print though. I will be organizing/rearranging for that once I catch my breath. Yes we will also have stickers!
My first attempt at airbrushing is finally complete. I made a ton of mistakes and learned so much. Pretty confident that my next build is gonna be even better!
