I began my nursing career in 1973 and yesterday I retired. Most of my career has been in palliative care. It's time to look back with pride and to thank all the patients, their loved ones and so many skilled colleagues who have taught and supported me. Thank you one and all

I think She chose to wear the Hijab. As a nurse entering the home of a Muslim patient, I choose to remove my shoes because I feel it is respectful. Nobody dictates those terms to me.

I am genuinely sorry to read of these experiences.
I worked on a palliative care team funded by the NHS and a cancer charity. We never received complaints about lack of compassion.
We were well funded and staffed by highly trained professionals who would not leave until the

Skill is not related to income. I work with the most skilful health care assistant I have ever met. She is not financially rewarded for her skills. The dying patients she cares for are richly rewarded by her presence.

Good for you Holly. Nursing has changed enormously since 2008 too. Patients are in hospital for shorter times therefore there are many patients at home who are more ill. There are numerous other factors to consider.

I reached the aged of 68 today, the age my Dad died 34 years ago. I’ve been feeling anxious about reaching this age in case it means my time is up. (The pandemic has increased my anxiety) Any ideas for managing anxiety would be gratefully received.
