A driver just crashed into me, taking a right turn into the bikelane w/o looking. I’m ok but my bike is bust. I was a bit shaken, so I asked him to call cops. Pretending to get his phone, he drove off, driving on the sidewalk b/c light at next intersection was red. I was ....

Hey @NBCNewYork -- your reporting about the cyclist killed last night is incorrect and irresponsible! It is a violation of the law to open a car door into moving traffic--the careless car driver slammed the door into the cyclist, not the other way round!

A few months ago, a DOT Qns rep told me that there ARE safe bike detours to Rockaway (aka stop whining). But even a ~25 min detour lands you here. WHYWHYWHY is this barricade not being moved to protect people on bikes, incl from insane icecream trucks driving IN the bikelane?

Jackson Heights is SO hungry for extending& making the 34th Ave Open Street PERMANENT. Today, the first neighbor passing by demanded to sign the petition even before we had set up our table -- a QR code allowed everyone to safely use their own phones to make their voices heard.

I am imploring @NYC_DOT to immediately open the Q'boro bridge SOR for bikes or peds. The situation was already untenable but it's downright criminal for @NYCMayor to ask people to walk&bike w/o any accommodations. Witnessed two near-crashes tonight, bridge is incredibly crowded.

Sorry, but I can't help feeling angry. 2023? How long did it take to roll out a citywide NYC Ferry system? How long to roll out citywide PreK? If bike share were a mayoral priority--and a public service rather than for-profit model--we wouldn't have this ridiculous timetable.

This report's vision is beautiful and urgent--and based on incredible stats: 75% of NYC streetscape is devoted to movement and (mostly free) storage of cars. The remaining scraps: 0.02% for car-free bus lanes, 0.93% for bike lanes, 24% sidewalks. We can't go on like this.

That means that 81% of Sunnyside, Woodside and LIC locals get around by means other than their private car every day but have to contend with unsafe streets that are designed for a small minority of car drivers.

The all-powerful women’s bike lobby at today’s #WomensRideQB , literally taking over the street after Yellowstone Blvd b/c @NYCMayor @BilldeBlasio still has to #FinishQueensBlvd . What a great day!

Like most New Yorkers, Jay from Sunnyside does not drive--he gets around on foot, by subway, and by bike--he's a soft-spoken guy but got SUPER excited that @NYCMayor put his foot down to move ahead with #SaferSkillman . TY Mr. Mayor for making our neighborhood safer and calmer!!

I simply cannot believe how many people prefer to hear f*** car noise than children playing on the street. Car addiction is real.

Now that we know that @NYCMayor has declared finishing #FixQueensBlvd a mayoral priority and @NYC_DOT is not asking CB6 for vote, it’s high noon to do same for #SaferSkillman & CB2. It’s the missing link. @JimmyVanBramer

#SaferSkillman is THE #bikeNYC connection between Queens and Manhattan. It would invite new customers to bike and walk to the shops. It would also connect @NYCMayor #FixQueensBlvd to the Queensboro Bridge, creating a 7 mile protected #bikeNYC lane for thousands

If you want to break the power of the Queens machine and transform the Queens justice system: petitioning kickoff rally @CabanForQueens at 1pm in Jackson Heights. She is the only public defender in this race and the only one running a grassroots campaign.

You must be kidding me! The @NYC_DOT permit (which was hidden under the cover) says all kinds of things but not that you can’t place this monster in a PROTECTED!! bikelane. So, is this legal @NYC_DOT ?? @CarlinaRivera

The magic number is 19%. That’ s the percentage of workers 16 years+ residing in the three zip codes roughly served by CB2 (LIC (11101), Sunnyside (11104) and Woodside, 11377) who commute to work by car. This is based on FACTS from the 2016 American Community Survey....

Jackson Heights kids can't have a safe @FreshAirFund summer camp experience even on ONE block on @34_ave . The signs have been posted since last week but car owners just don't care. I submitted a @nyc311 request yet again, let's see how fast it gets closed w/o action.

@caseysjournal @mikiebarb Yes, but the image is part of a cynical PR battle—the bridge has zero practical relevance, it was never open. While you provide some historical context, you flatten it by not also contextualizing how this very image operates to prep our minds for US intervention.

Yesterday was just a show. The @NYPD115Pct NCO for my sector says they will not enforce No Parking b/c it's a temporary @NYCDOT @FreshAirFund program. The gist was 'the street is for cars, their owners deserve empathy." Congrats to those who oppose safe spaces for children.

We Need Buses, Buses Everywhere. "For about $17 billion annually, every American city with at least 100,000 people could more than double its transit capacity" (while fed gov spends nearly $50 billion a year on infrastructure meant mainly for cars.)

This was me, close call last night, biking west on 9th St. Crossing 3rd Ave--where streets narrows and new PBL ends and turns into sharrow--cab driver sped up and tried to cut me off to get ahead of oncoming traffic rather than slow down and allow me to maintain my right of way.

Please note that @jessicaramos supports protected bikelanes with an overall street redesign on #FixNorthern while Peralta only calls for "improvements." Plus she's excited about superblocks, while Peralta is relitigating the protected bikelane on 111th Street!!!

Before #34AveOpenStreets , Reynold did not bike in Jackson Heights—"there’s no real bikelanes here.” Now he can ride slow and relaxed, no stress with cars. He said he’d show up any time for a @communityboard3 meeting to share why he supports this petition:
